History
In 1775, American explorer Daniel Boone established Kentucky's first forts in Harrodsburg and Boonesborough. This helped pave the way for the establishment of McConnell Springs which was soon renamed after the first battle of the American Revolution in Lexington, Massachusetts. The city was once a part of Virginia and was granted 710 acres by the Virginia General Assembly in 1782. It was then released as a separate state in 1792. In 1924, founder of Calumet Baking Powder William Monroe Wright joined with a number of farms to form Calumet Farm, home of eight Kentucky Derby champion Thoroughbreds. Lexington opened its first city school in 1834. In the early 1900s, it became the world’s largest burley tobacco market and at present, it is known as the Horse Capital of the World.

Kentucky reaches a record 6,318 new COVID-19 cases in the last week
LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Tuesday marks seven months since Kentucky recorded its first positive case of COVID-19. One day shy of that came the news that the state set a new weekly record for positive cases. State health officials announced the confirmation of 6,318 cases of coronavirus in the last week, and only two counties, Robertson and Pendleton, are listed as being in the safer "green zone." "There is no one who is protected from this. There is still a long way to go with COVID-19," said Kevin Hall from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department. Read more here.
Just when people think that they have flattened the coronavirus curve, some cities are seeing a rise in infections again. In Lexington, Kentucky, a new weekly record for COVID-19 positive cases was listed. According to Kevin Hall from the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department, their daily average peaked at more than 100 during the middle of September. He hopes that the rise in infections will make people realize that there is still a long way to go in fighting the coronavirus. Prominent government officials including President Donald Trump have been infected with the virus and the health department's spokesperson hopes that everyone fully recovers soon.
