I don't mean to rant again, but I just don't understand those who seem to think that rhaenyra owed it to alicent to tell her about losing her virginity to Cole. Like it was none of alicent's business and rhaenyra was under no obligation to tell her if she didn't want to.
I see so many 'but rhaenyra lied to alicent about losing her virginity' posts and acting like that meant it was OK for alicent to be angry with rhaenyra and treat her badly. But first off, rhaenyra didn't lie about it. Alicent asked, no sorry, accused her of sleeping with daemon, and rhaenyra said no she hadn't, which was the truth. Also alicent was very negative and judgmental from the start of their conversation, telling her that she would have sullied herself and talking about targaryens and their queer customs, so considering the very negative energy alicent was giving out why the hell would rhaenyra feel comfortable or safe enough to confide in alicent that she had slept with Cole.
Would you confess to a friend who had just judged you like that for something you didn't do, I personally would feel too afraid of how they would react. It would have been one thing if alicent had come to rhaenyra with an attitude of concern instead of one of judgement, but she didn't. So I fully understand why rhaenyra didn't feel like she could confide in alicent.
Also I find alicent's weird obsession over rhaenyra's sex life really unsettling, why does she care so much about who has been in rhaenyra's bed? Why does she feel like she's entitled to know? Her anger over rhaenyra sleeping with Cole, her obsession over who rhaenyra's sons father is, it's all just so weird to me.

What makes me angry is that Aegon ii, Aemond, Daeron, Helaena where raised as Hightowers! Not Targaryens!
That's why I stand by the belief that they are NOT true Targaryens, it's not because they're mother is a Hightower BUT because that same mother didn't RESPECT the family she was married into and forced her kids into Andals with Targaryen features. Her husband was a Targaryen King she married into that, her children needed to be raised as Targaryens not Hightowers!
Aemond may have loved reading a lot of books (as his fans like to reminds us) but the truth is he wasn't raised to be a proper Targaryen prince, so I can't exactly see him as a True Targaryen prince.
The ONLY true Targaryens were Jacaerys, Lucerys, Joffrey, Aegon iii, Viserys ii, Baela and Rheana THEY were raised as Targaryens by they're mother Rhaenyra Targaryen and they're father Daemon Targaryen.

The fact that we were robbed of what was possible Rhaenyra’s only genuine, loving and reciprocal female relationship for a terribly written fanfiction plot line with her canonical abuser. If you don’t think it was racially charged, you’re dumb. Rhaenyra genuinely loved both Velaryon siblings and the show fucked one of the most important relationships in Rhaenyra’s life. I will be complaining about this on my death bed.

The “sympathy” given to Vaemond Velaryon is ridiculous (we all know that is really about digging way too hard for a motive to portray Rhaenyra as “evil”). Comparing his death to that of Lyman Beesbury is reaching.
Lyman Beesbury was an honorable old man who had the courage to speak up during a treasonous and secretive Council meeting whose purpose was to usurp the rightful heir to the throne. He had no personal motivation and was of pure heart when he accused the Greens of high treason. And those vipers killed him for it.
Vaemond Velaryon was a snake in the grass, just like Larys Strong and Otto Hightower.
He was nephew to Corlys Velaryon, a coward, an opportunist and an upstart himself, who sought to use malicious rumors and the misfortune of a woman brought down on her by the members of his own House (they all knew about Laenor’s true nature) to not only take Driftmark away from Lord Corlys’ chosen heir, Lucerys, but also from Baela and Rhaena.
Vaemond deserved what he got.

I don't understand the position that even without Dotd, Daemon would've killed Alicent’s kids to ensure Rhaenyra got the throne bc like... if he was going to do that, don't you think he would have done it before Viserys died?
Like Aemond beat up and threatened to kill his daughters and claimed his dead wife's dragon at her funeral. If Aemond lived through that then it's pretty obvious Daemon wasn't rubbing his hands together waiting for an opportunity to kill the Hightower kids. Not everything has to be b&c, assassinations would've been easy and relatively inconspicuous compared to if he did it after Viserys died. He obviously had contacts in the keep and greater KL. Aegon, Aemond, and Daeron were sitting ducks they could've been poisoned, pushed through a window, etc. And just like with Rhea Royce, people wouldn't obviously know it was him. If Daemon wanted Alicent Hightower's sons dead, they would've been dead. Especially if he's the villain yall make him out to be.

Its crazy that men preach they want to create a "feminist" show yet do the opposite of it. Rhaenyra got totally isolated only having a relationship with Alicent which was toxic to say the least it seemed like Alicent was made to befriend Rheanyra just coz her father was the Hand while she was jealous of Rhaenyra's position and hated Targaryen "Queer customs". Its weird that Alicent got ladies in the waiting (one of those was portrayed by Sapochnik's wife) but Rhaenyra only got servants. They isolated her only Laenor by her side but we are supposed to believe that he didnt do anything to protect his family. They were cousins to begin with how come family ties with Laenor and Laena never got addressed and given the spotlight. I despise that they tried to put Laena and Rhaenyra against each other coz they loved the same man. I also want to add how horribly the show treated Baela and Rhaena. Awful wigs. Barely any lines. Horrible outfits. Treated like an afterthought rather than prominous players supporting Rhaenyra and them being TARGARYENS. Baela was supposed to be the future Queen learning from Rhaenys and Rhaenyra. Her relationship with Jacaerys should be on the spotlight. Same goes with Rhaena and Lucerys. They were bethroned and fateful to their future partners something the series barely got to bother display those relationships. Both girls are very important to post Dance Westeros yet from what we are shown creators barely care to include them in scripts. Let's also address how making Heleana a dreamer does nothing only is there to throw some forshadowing lines and make her look weird but she got nothing besides that. Its kinda weird that the show focuses more on Alicent who by all means should be a supporting character but gets treated like the protagonist not antagonist she should be. Its one thing to make characters sympathetic the other making them one dimensional and washed out. Character development isnt the only problem. The plot, costumes, clear biases of creators or actors telling how to feel about scenes coz the show didnt do it well, etc. Only music stood out as great through the first season.
HOTD has made many interesting choices in their adaptation of the story of the Dance. One of their favorite excuses for many of their questionable choices is "feminism". Why did they remove Alicent's ambitions and autonomy? Feminism. Why is Rhaenyra less proactive and hesitant? Feminism. Why are Daemon and Otto the primary active agents in the lead up to the Dance? Well women can't be in the wrong or violent, so feminism.
These choices are the farthest thing from feminist; they're sexist, end of story. Every decision surrounding the women of the Dance reeks of benevolent sexism. One of the most obviously sexist decisions made is the purposeful removal of female cooperation and friendship.
Rhaenyra in F&B has many female allies and friends. Her ladies in waiting loved her so much, one of them, Lady Elinda Massey gouged out her eyes at the sight of Rhaenyra's death. Lady Jeyne Arryn, Lady Alysanne Blackwood, and Lady Sabitha Frey/Vypren are just a few examples of ladies who fought for Rhaenyra (Alysanne and Sabitha literally fought in battles). Lady Fell chose death over betraying her oath to Rhaenyra.
Now, we haven't had any opportunity to meet most of these women I listed in the show. Lady Fell was portrayed as she was written in the book, a very minor character who simply foreshadowed how most of the realm would choose Rhaenyra over Aegon. Elinda Massey, however was reduced to an unnamed servant, not even a lady in waiting. Her treatment is an echo of one of my biggest issues with HOTD, the treatment of Laena and Rhaenys.
Laena was Rhaenyra's dearest friend in the book, in fact it's implied that they had a romantic relationship. Whether you believe that telling or not, it's undeniable that she and Laena were extremely close. They chose to betroth their children while they were infants, Rhaenyra flew to Laena's bedside during her final labor, and she stood vigil with Daemon over Laena's body.
All of that closeness and intimacy was removed in the show to make room for Alicent. So let's break that down: they removed a long and healthy relationship between two women and replaced it with a short-lived (in terms of screen time) friendship that quickly fell apart and turned into an intense rivalry. Reinforcing an old stereotype of female friendship: that it is entrenched in rivalry and toxicity and can quickly be turned to enmity. Alicent was so quickly and easily turned against Rhaenyra and it's even implied that she was jealous of Rhaenyra long before they became enemies.
Rhaenys in the book was an ardent supporter of Rhaenyra. She happily claimed Jace, Luke, and Joff as her grandsons, advised Rhaenyra to go to war, and gladly flew against Aegon and Aemond.
Meanwhile, in the show, Rhaenys was turned into one of Rhaenyra's rivals. She constantly challenged Rhaenyra's ideas, dismissed her as a naive child, disliked her children, and even considered backing the Greens. On top of that, they turned her into yet another "peaceful" woman. She advises against the war, and seems to continue to do so in season two. Rhaenys is virtually unrecognizable in the show. They chose to take a woman who tried to prevent a younger woman being wronged by the patriarchy the same way she was and turned her into a bitter woman who resents Rhaenyra (for most of the show).
HOTD claimed to have wanted to tell a story about how the patriarchy pits women against each other. That's all very well and good, but that's not what they actually did. They took a story where a woman is wrongfully usurped because of her gender and is supported by many other women and turned it into another tired female rivalry story.
Rhaenyra has no female friends aside from Alicent. Laena was turned from her dearest friend/lover into simply a rival for Daemon's affection. Rhaenys was turned from a supportive mentor and defender to someone who took out her resentment for the system on a fourteen year old who only starts to support her when she's proven "peaceful".
HOTD chose to perpetuate a harmful stereotype about women: that we constantly view each other as threats/rivals and can't have truly healthy relationships with other women. Rhaenyra had women who supported and cared for her in the book, in the show all she has is Alicent. A woman who abused and undermined her for ten years, raised her children to hate her, and usurped her. Every change HOTD made in the name of "feminism" solidified just how sexist it really is.

Dick is probably the nicest civilian ever when he’s in Bludhaven and all the little old ladies who bring him baked goods and his coworkers at the station have no idea he spends the night beating criminals half to death with his escrima sticks, has the kind of insane family & family loyalty you can’t buy, and would have the entire Justice League at his side with just one phone call.
