I wanted to ask about writing superheroes, how do you first go about balancing their powers out and finding equal villains for them to go against? -cluewhite

The trick to not getting sucked into the cycle of “things were better under Democrats” “yeah well they weren’t perfect.” Is to remember that the people saying the latter are already conceding your point. They know things are better when Republicans aren’t in charge but their internet clout is built entirely on shitting on Dems to up their leftist cred to their friends even if it means being a useful idiot for Republicans. It’s not up to you to convince each of these disingenuous clout chasers to get their heads out of their asses, it’s up to us to remind each other and people susceptible to this kind of online propaganda that Democrats are a better option on every issue and to point to places where that’s verifiably true.

I’m sorry but I can’t even get on board with anti “both sides” posts when they still tell some kind of lie. I just saw one that started by alluding to election rigging in 2024, and stop. I’m sorry, but more people voted for Trump than Harris. That’s just it. Musk influenced the election by pouring millions into Trump's campaign and running a gigantic social media site that pushed anti-Dem/pro-MAGA content, but there is currently no evidence that actual votes were tampered with. We cannot become conspiracy theorists like the right. If Musk could actually change votes, then he would've done so with the Wisconsin Supreme Court seat that the Democrat won, despite Musk's support and campaigning for the Republican. Then the post was like "we probably still would've gone to war with Iran but--" stop. This not only ignores Harris' statements and platform, but Biden's actions, because Biden did actually try to prevent a wider war from breaking out in the Middle East and told Israel not to attack Iran, but this goes against the mainstream narrative of the internet, so no one cares. And then the post said immigration would still be horrible but at least ICE wouldn't be acting the way it is now. That's a hell of an understatement. There will always be issues with immigration because the average person is xenophobic as fuck, but hundreds of thousands of people are now vulnerable to deportation while litigation plays out about the termination of TPS because Biden granted them that legal status, and one of the last things Biden did in office regarding immigration was to try to create a pathway for citizenship for undocumented spouses of immigrants. But again, this goes against the radikewl narrative, so no one cares.

I am tired of the relentless, dedicated distortions, lies, ignoring reality, and the constant need to place one's edgelord radikewl identity above all else even when far-right fascists are destroying society. I am tired of people acting like rhetoric has no impact, and that a solid decade of "Dems still suck shit tho" in the face of blatant fascism isn't part of what got us here (perhaps that's why these people comfort themselves with election conspiracy theories, because that's easier for them to process than the possibility that they enabled Trump's rise). I do not care if your statement ends with "but I guess Republicans suck more" when you still feel the childish need to signal you're still part of the internet cool kids clique with "fuck the Democrats" at the beginning of your post that is fundamentally about Republicans ruining people's lives. I don't care if you reluctantly admit Republicans are worse when you're still lying about Democrats. Dems aren't just "not as bad", they actually do good things while they're in power, but 2021-2024 proved that these people will do nothing but ignore those things at best and lie about them at worst. It doesn't matter how bad things get; these people will never stop acting 12 years-old, so we should treat them like children and exclude them from adult conversations about politics.

The article mariacallous shared today about the current administration's effort to remake the US's domestic and international stance in the world is why I seriously doubt any and everyone who says this country will survive post trump.

God Im so behind on these asks but I know the article the esteemed @mariacallous posted and also i share your skepticism about thinking we'll just sail through this era unscathed. But I think its equally important to consider that a country can survive & be fundamentally, irrevocably changed. Its happened before. It's happened here. Its up to us to do everything we can to ensure that what emerges from this crucible is a stronger, more durable, more equitable Democracy. Our efforts are what will ultimately determine the success of the MAGA project, even if it takes 5, 10, 15 years.

so much of the french revolution is just various people going "surely committing THIS act of violence/murder will end all the suffering and bloodshed and usher in peace!" followed by a summary of how everything immediately escalated and got even worse afterward. and somehow this website's takeaway is "clearly acts of violence and murder are the only way to end suffering and usher in peace!"

I don't know guys I think we might actually have to actually put in effort and not conflate working toward a better society with seeking personal catharsis.

I'm not the biggest fan of cops myself but maybe could we not fuck with peoples food?

Firstly, oat and cows milk have different sugar content. You could fuck up someone's day if they're diabetic.

Secondly, I know someone who has anaphylaxis from cows milk. And it's so bad she would die if she took a sip of cows milk.

Thirdly, what if the cop kept kosher and was planning on eating meat later or already ate meat and needed to wait before consuming dairy?

Lastly, not all lactose intolerances are "oopsie I need to shit for a bit". For some it can be real bad.

And this whole point isn't me going "cops are good" i just don't think that anyone should intentionally fuck with someone's health or religious restrictions point blank. Doesn't matter if the person on the receiving end is a cop or not. It is not up to you to play god with peoples health.

This is just another rendition of the whole "giving bad customers who ask for diet/sugar free soda regular soda" debacle rewrapped in oatmilk

Hundreds of companies openly got rid of their Diversity teams, most of which were headed by people of color, immediately lessening the amount of PoC in positions of authority.

If you care about teaching the histories of marginalized groups, well too bad, the Smithsonian Institution and DoD have been pressured into deleting several online history resources in JD Vance’s war on woke

Pro Palestine protests are being met with deportations, pro immigration protests are being met with the National Guard

Immigrants are being taken from everywhere by emboldened ICE agents and the government is cheering them on

If you care at all about the cost of living, Trump’s immigration raids and tariff wars are poised skyrocket that

Not one policy goal has been met by the inaction of supposed progressives who boycotted their vote and I hope they learn from that decision and don’t make that mistake again

my question for leftists who say all resistance is justified-

okay so can the Jewish descendants of Jews who had their homes and belongings seized by Islamic countries go to Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria, Iran, etc, and start massacring and raping anyone who lives in formerly Jewish inhabited areas as an act of resistance? right because those homes used to house Jewish families.

what about the Jews whose homes and belongings were stolen by the Nazis and their European neighbors? can they go to Poland and start looting, killing, and raping Polish people because their ancestors quite literally stole Jewish homes?

or, anyone who lives in the USA- how would you feel if Native Americans armed themselves, came to YOUR neighborhood, and started shooting elderly people waiting for the bus, breaking into houses, killing men women and children at random, in the name of resistance and justice for the horrific genocide that was committed against Native Americans? you are living on stolen land after all. you love to say it.

This is going to sound so "oldie yells at cloud" of me but the radicalisation of the young into black and white, zero shades of grey thinking, both in the media they consume and in real life situations, is genuinely terrifying.

The world is complex. The world is grey. There is infinite nuance in everything. No amount of trying to shove it all into neatly labeled boxes is ever going to work.
