Clothing bag design
Tumblr media
Here i created a design for a clothing bag. I re used some vectors i had used within my look book. Like with the thank you card i made, i used the gradient from before and also the vectors. The only change i made as adding a black stroke to some of the triangles to make them stand out more. amongst the gradient. I then added my logo in the center of the design and added to the mockup above

Street sign design
Tumblr media
For this sign mockup i again pasted in my logo but before i did this i edited it to make the sign appear neon, I did this by simply adding an outer glow to certain components of the design. After i had done this i needed to change the colour of the animal prints because in my original design they were black, and due to this they wouldn't be visible on the mockups soi just changed them to a dark shade of grey which worked nicely on the mockup.

Clothing tag design
Tumblr media
For this clothing tag mockup i have very simply placed my brand logo in the center of the tag. I have chosen to do this because this is a very common “unspoken law” in the design of clothing tags as their purpose is to show the brand of the clothing and on the flip side state the size, barcode and origin of where the clothing was made. For this reason only the logo needs to be contained as a tag isn't a form of advertising and is rather an informal component contained within marketing.

Final outcome
Tumblr media
This is the final outcome for my thank you card design. I am happy with this outcome because it adheres to the aesthetic i have created for my brand. It also isn't a particularly busy design, which stops it from looking overwhelming as through my research i had found that the designs for these cards are very simple, but appealing to the eye as well.
However if i was to change anything about this design i would remove the logo from the front and create a very simple back side to the card that would contain the same gradient and have the logo consuming most of the space in the center of the design.

Edit Process
Tumblr media
Firstly i created a custom sized document that has the same dimensions as a thank you card would have, which is very similar to that of a business card. I used the same gradient i had used within my magazine front cover as this is a colour scheme that i wanted to be associated with my brand.
Tumblr media
Next i added my logo in the central bottom proportion of the design. Once i had done this i drew in a rectangle to frame the card.
Tumblr media
I then used a neat, thick joined handwriting font for the header of the card. beneath it i used a thin sans serif font to finish the sentence and advertise the offer i hand included within the card. Here i also added in the grid i had used within my front cover, but i later removed this from my design as i preferred the clean look achieved without it. In addition, i also made the white rectangular border slightly smaller because i thought it made the design look more visually attractive.
Tumblr media
Lastly i added in 2 stars i had previously used within my look book design and placed these either side of the header. Then to conclude i used some other vectors i had made and placed these in each corner within the design, leaving me with the above final result.

Thank you card research
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above are 2 thank you cards that are sometimes included in orders as a way of leaving the customer with a positive attitude after making a purchase. These simple tokens of gratitude can help to make a buyer feel like a valued customer and that their purchase makes a difference to the company. As my brand is a small one i thought that adding in a design for a thank you card would be a perfect way of portraying the fact that my brand isn't a large corporate one, and is actually a small owned business as the bigger chain brands are often worth millions so for them a single sale couldn't make or break them, whereas for a small self owned business this could be the case. In addition, people are often infatuated with wearing designer brands which makes it hard for smaller businesses to thrive, so in order to show appreciation of a purchase and keep customers coming back by showing a small appreciative gesture towards them that the bigger brands don't bother with can have a positive effect on the individual and the brand. Sometimes the company decides to go a step further to ensure they can maintain a string of loyal customers by including special discounts on these cards to tempt them to come back to receive a certain percentage off of their next purchase. I will definitely include this within my design as i think it is a clever and generous way to keep customers coming back.
In regards to the design concept of these cards they are rather simplistic and sometimes contain the company logo along with a bold header which is usually where “thank you” is highlighted to instantly allow you to know what the card is for. Following the header is a small amount of type thanking the buyer for their custom and this is sometimes followed by a discount code.
For my card i think i will use the same colour schemes and vectors as this is a trend i have now associated with the advertising of my brand.

Final outcome
Tumblr media
This is my final outcome for my back cover. As discussed in the previous process post, I have re used many of the elements that were included in my front cover but vastly simplified as thought my research i found that the back covers of magazines either advertise something different or contain a similar, simplified design that is similar to that of the front cover. I have incorporated the palm trees and city within the background and kept the grid and gradient, which are all the components that were present in the background composure of my front cover.  I have used the small vectors that are present throughout the look book as they all small visual components that contribute to make the 80s theme a prominent feature within the look book as a whole.

Back cover edit process
Unfortunately the screenshots i took of this edit process were lost but  the edit process was very simple as i just used components i have already edited/created so i will use an image of the final product and dissect it for the edit process explanation.
Tumblr media
For my back cover i have used all the background elements present in the front cover. This being the colour scheme, gradient, border, triangle shape in the corner, a few vectors and the city and palm trees. I then utilized an image i had used within my inside pages and also kept the white stroke on it to help it stand out. I changed the colour of the border to white however as i thought this would work nicely with the white stroke on the image of the model and also make it slightly different from the composure of the front cover. I feel that if i had more time with my FMP i could create a cleaner flowing design for the back cover but i also think that the one i have produced fits the aesthetic well and for that reason i will keep this design as my back cover.

Back cover research
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Above are some images of back covers of random magazines. I decided to use these as a reference as i wanted my design to represent that of a real magazine back cover. The common running theme i have found in the back covers of any magazine is that they are a lot more simplistic and contain less type that the front cover and inside pages. Sometimes they contain very similar features to the front cover but in a far more simpler way, often just containing some imagery or even advertising something else. For my back cover i think that i will create a similar background look to my front cover and include 1 piece of imagery with no type to keep it simple and stick to the aesthetic i have created on the front.

Final outcome
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my final outcome for my last inside pages for my look book. Again i changes up some of the shapes and prints i used within this page whilst sticking to the 80s vectors and colour scheme. On this page i added in some multicolor dots to help fill the design some more and make it look less plain. This isn't my best page spread in my opinion but it fits the theme and is recognizable as being 80s themed.

Edit process for 3rd 2 pages
Tumblr media
On my final set of double pages i changed the background colour again to green. I copied the zebra print rectangle and placed it in the top left hand corner of the left page to make if differ from the position it was in in the previous pages. i then placed 2 large yellow triangles horizontally on each page so when the book comes together it would look like a diamond shape.
Tumblr media
Again i began to add in and arrange all of the vectors i had used on the previous pages to give the page more character. I then began to add in some imagery that relates to street wear in the 80s as this would be the theme of the last 2 inside pages.
Tumblr media
Lasty i used the same circular zebra print brush i had used on my first page and placed these in the middle with a semi circle on each page so that when the pages came together it would create a circle within the yellow diamond. I added a title in the same font i had used in all of the previous inside pages and again added numbers to the clothing i was advertising, and placed the name and price of the clothing in the zebra print rectangle as i did in every other previous inside page. I added in another model styling some 80s denim streetwear and added a white stroke to both of them to make them stand out on the page more.

Final outcome
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my final outcome for my second set of pages. The layout of this design is different from the last which is good as it makes the magazine less boring and predictable, but at the same time i have been able to re use vectors, shapes and animal prints to adhere to the same aesthetic i am trying to create throughout the whole look book. Although i am re using alot of components, i am arranging them completely differently on each page so that each page looks different. In this design i used whole images rather than cropping out just one model which i think will give my look book a nice balance between single and multiple focus imagery.

Edit process for 2nd 2 pages
Tumblr media
For my next two pages i decided to change the background colour to yellow. I created a large leopard print rectangle that will join when the pages are connected together. I used the triangle i used within the front cover and placed this is either corner of each page. i then began to add some imagery.
Tumblr media
After i had added come casual imagery as the theme of this page would be casual wear, i again added some of the vectors i had created previously within the project and i also utilized the smaller vectors i had created for my first set of pages and arranged them within each page. Lastly i added in the numbers and the zebra print rectangle stating the names of the clothing and the prices.

Final oucome
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my final outcome for my first 2 pages. I am happy with the aesthetic i am creating throughout my look book and sticking to a colour scheme gives the look book a clean and organized feel. The extra vectors i created really help to bring out the 80s theme and also aid in making the design seem less simple.

Edit process for 1st 2 pages
Tumblr media
For my first 2 pages i set the background colour to pink and used some of the shapes i had already used in my front cover, like the shape with the zebra print over the top of it. I have a theme for each page and this one was aerobic wear, so i used some images of 80s aerobic fashion and  placed in other shapes such as blue rectangles on each page with semi transparent yellow circles over the top of them. I then used some of the stars i used in my front cover and arranged them on each page.
Tumblr media
I then began to incorporate some of the vectors i had made previously within the FMP and i also added a header for the pages called “aerobic wear”.
Tumblr media
I then becan to create smaller and simpler 80s style vectors in illustrator and then i copied them over to the the pages and arranged them on the pages.
Tumblr media
I copied over the zebra print rectangle from the front cover and used it to place the name and price of each item in coloration to the small numbers i had arranged next to each item of clothing i was advertising within the look book.
Tumblr media
I then used a large circular zebra print brush to create a semi circle zebra print on the right page. This is the final result.

Magazine inside page layout
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here i am researching the inside layout of both 80s magazines and more modern ones. However they are both rather similar. they contain more imagry than the front cover and sometimes contain quite a bit of type advertsing the product. However within my inside layouts i will keep the amount of type down to reduce the amount of time i spend writing rather than designing. So i will instead incorporate the concept of strictly sticking to naming the product which is for sale and the price. This is seen a lot in fashion magazines that are made soley for a specific brand, like mine will be. They contain small numbers next to the clothing they are selling on the model. The number is then repeated somewhere on the page stating the name of the product and the price. In addition i will continue to incorporate some of the patterns and vectors that will be visible in my front cover. In doing this i wish to achieve a recognizable, consistent aesthetic and theme throughout the whole of my Magazine/lookbook. To conclude i will experiment with how i layout my imagery and add components that will make the images stand out, such as adding a stroke/outline to them.
