Baekhyun has a lot of things to worry about their tour in China. From practicing their group sets diligently to tweaking with his solo song that he’ll perform in the fanmeeting. He can confidently say that among those things, communicating wasn’t on his list of worries until Hyoseop brought it up, and he kind of wants to smack his head for letting a detail of that importance pass.
“I’m passable, I suppose,” he says with a frown already forming. How does one measure their language knowledge anyway? “I mean, I can ask for directions, and I can order food, take a cab, even, though I do think they take advantage of the fact I’m not from there to charge more, but that’s an everywhere problem,” he puts down his papers on his lap and smiles at Hyoseop, “I also learned pick-up lines. I can teach you those.”
speak and learn
hyoseop is excited to partake in his first ever tour, though he’s also a bit nervous. though hyoseop has tried his best at learning mandarin since joining type zero, hyoseop has never been the quickest learner when it comes to… well, anything. he speaks a bit, though most definitely not fluent. he’s pretty sure he won’t become fluent before the tour starts, but he can try his best at learning some mandarin still.
he sits with baekhyun, “i really wanna thanks the fans once we perform but… i don’t really know how to do it in mandarin… i could probably say what i want to say in english, but then it just wouldn’t be as special…”. “how good are you at mandarin?” he turns to look at baekhyun.

The tables have turned and Baek was proclaimed as the interim leader of Type Zero. He would laugh at anyone’s face if they told him a year prior that that’s how his life would be, but alas, it’s not like he can’t turn the offer down. It’s not at all what he had ever expected from being part of a boy group, but Baek has never backed away from a challenge, so he opens his arms for this new experience.
Except he wishes his arms weren’t that open to new experiences because he has had at least a dozen mini crisis since he started trying to come up with ideas of what to do for the small, personalized gifts for fans. He’s usually not this dense about things like this, but maybe because it’s his first fanmeeting as a member of TZ, he didn’t want to feel like he didn’t put effort.
That’s how he ends up at Kai’s door, with a defeated expression on his face as he knocks and waits maybe three seconds before peaking inside gingerly, “Kaaaai,” he whines, “do you have a minute?”

Baek wasn’t sure because while he is one to assume things before they are said out loud and clearly, he has policed himself to not do that as often anymore after he made his debut. It’s a way to prioritize his ego and avoid disappointment, or so he likes to say. But this girl, Zoe, is not having a reaction of someone who just stopped by to chat.
If her stuttering and the slight blush he saw creeping up her neck were any indicators, Baek feels safe to assume she’s a fan, and so fan treatment is what he offers.
Baek looks down to the papers he had been reading until a couple of minutes ago and shakes his head, “just an article I need to read for class. I heard we’ll have exams soon, so I better be prepared for those,” he says while he scoots the papers in Zoe’s direction just slightly so she could pick them up if she wishes to. “I don’t remember seeing you around, but it’s not like I’ve been the most present person on campus. Are you also part of the faculty of arts?”
— 🐰 »
Zoe's heart pounded in her chest like a bass drum at a rock concert, her excitement threatening to burst out of her chest. Baekhyun's smile could have powered a small city, and Zoe found herself momentarily lost in its brilliance. She had admired him from afar for so long, and now here she was, actually talking to him. It was enough to make her inner fangirl squeal with delight.
"Oh, um, yeah, sure!" Zoe replied, her voice a tad breathless as she fought to keep her cool. Inside, her enthusiastic adoration was on full alert, but she was determined not to let them take over completely. With a mental pep talk, she took her seat next to him.
She couldn't resist stealing another glance at Baekhyun, her heart doing cartwheels in her chest. She was in full fangirl mode now, but she was also headstrong, the girl who could handle anything with a relaxed, slightly sassy attitude.
"So, uh, what are you reading?" Zoe asked, her voice a delicate blend of curiosity and confidence. She hoped her question would spark a conversation, maybe even elicit a laugh or two.

How is someone supposed to handle school and work at the same time still is a question left unanswered for Baekhyun. First, because school has been a constant in his life for the last four years, and second, because he didn’t expect to be working before finishing his degree. Sure, he’s on his last leg before graduating, but who knows if he’ll be able to finish everything in time.
Whenever there’s the chance, though, he shows up in the campus either to attend classes or to just spend some time looking like studying is his priority now (which certainly and unfortunately isn’t).
Since debuting, Baek has become used to people staring. It’s not like it didn’t happen before he debuted, but now there’s always someone with a cellphone in his direction. Being in school didn’t change that. So, when he hears someone calling him, it’s not surprising. He just looks up from the article he has been reading to find the girl who approached him.
“You’re correct. It’s nice to meet you, Zoe,” he says with his best public-ready smile. Zoe doesn’t look entirely unfamiliar for some reason, but with a face like hers, he guesses it’s difficult to not leave an impression. “That’s very sweet of you, Zoe, thank you. It has been a while since I last showed up here, so it’s nice to see a friendly face,” which is kind of true. His friends are all busy with a thing or another nowadays. “Do you want to sit with me?”

While enjoying the warmth of the sun, Zoe lazily gazed around the dining hall. That's when she spotted him, Baek. Her heart skipped a beat at the sight of him. She has admired him from afar, but now, seeing him up close, sent her pulse racing.
She watched him for a moment, trying to gather her thoughts. Zoe couldn't help but admire his handsome features, the way his dark brown eyes seemed to hold a depth she longed to explore. Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Zoe decided to approach him. She knew she had to control her 'fangirling' tendencies if she wanted to make a good impression. With newfound courage, she rose from her spot and made her way over to where Baek stood.
As she drew closer, Zoe couldn't help but feel a flutter of nerves in her stomach. What if he didn't want to be bothered? What if she made a fool of herself? Pushing aside her doubts, she plastered a confident smile on her face and greeted him.
"Hey, Baek, right?" she said, hoping she got his name right. "I'm Zoe. I've seen you around campus, and I just wanted to say hi." Her voice sounded surprisingly steady, considering the whirlwind of emotions churning inside her.

Baek purses his lips and shakes his head. “I don’t understand that, sincerely,” he says with indignation. “I mean, frankly speaking, we wouldn’t have debuted if they deemed us as not good-looking enough, so that’s not what bothers me. But that’s one of your best features. It’s unique and cute,” he reaches out and pinches Kai’s cheeks lightly. “Plus, weren’t they giving fake freckles to models just the other day?”
Baek laughs at the younger’s reaction and runs his fingers through his hair, “I know it does, but doesn’t go well with Type Zero’s style, no?” It’s more rhetoric than anything else, to be honest, and he doesn’t have that much attachment to his hairstyle to rebel against what they tell him to do, but the thought still is a little entertaining. “I’ll riot if you do as well, and don’t let anyone try cover your pretty face with heavy makeup, youngster.”
"Thanks, hyung," Kai replies sincerely, though a hint of shyness colored his words. "Although sometimes I do feel a little self-conscious, especially when the makeup artists try to cover my freckles with tons of makeup. As if they're a flaw." He shrugs, a subtle gesture that belies his inner turmoil over societal beauty standards, particularly in a country as visually driven as South Korea.
At Baek's comment, his expression shifts from bright to appalled, his lips forming a shocked little "o" of disbelief. "No way! Longer hair looks so good on you," he insists, the sincerity in his tone punctuated by a playful twinkle in his eyes. "I think you should riot if they try to cut it." It is evident that he was joking, even if his tone betrays a hint of seriousness.

Baek almost pouts, but it’s not really his place to tell Hyoseop what he is good at or not. From his perspective, all his teammates are impressive when it comes to certain skills, and it’s no different from their talk now. He has a feeling they would go around in circles if Baek decided to counterpoint. He chuckles and nods his head, “that’s a deal then. Let’s improve a lot and show it off someday in the future,” he taps Hyoseop in the shoulder and smiles at him.
Baek has the urge to laugh at their incredibly different approaches and how Baek is probably overthinking while Hyoseop’s idea seems to be a sound one. Showing improvement by singing a song that he has performed before was not something Baek thought about at all, but now that it had been brought up, maybe he could add that to his already long list. “Any Song is a very good pick, I really like that one,” he says and crosses his arms in front of him. “I always associate softer sounding songs with you, if I’m honest. I think you could pull off DPR Live’s Jasmine, for example.”
lgcbaekhyun
Baekhyun had a long list of songs he wanted to perform during their fan meet. As soon as they were allowed to choose which ones they wanted to sing, it was like the gates of inspiration that had been laying dormant in Baek's head finally woke up because he had never been this excited about singing before, and that's saying something because he's the lead vocalist of Type Zero. "You do rapping because you're a good rapper, but you're also an outstanding dancer and amazing performer," Baek tells Hyoseop as he looks up from his tablet and turns to look at his group mate. Baek didn't think he would ever reach this level of sincerity, and he's surprised to notice that everything he just said feels truthful and is not meaningless inspirational words. "I only have my singing to back me up, and I know it sounds silly because I'm not the best dancer, but I think I wanna try something like that, too. I'm not sure, though. I'm still going through it," and he shows the notes app with the list of plus 15 songs that made it to the qualifiers.
he looks up at baekhyun, a half smile on his lips. “thanks for the words, but i wouldn’t consider myself a good dancer” he shrugs “dance has always been the skill i lack most in, that’s just how it is” another shrug. “i wanna attempt becoming better though, for a long while all i’ve been focusing on is rapping” he hums. “you’re good at singing, i’m good at rapping and i’m sure we’ll both improve in dance” he shows the other a smile.
his mouth opens, surprised eyes changing between looking at baekhyun and the list he’s shown. “so far i’ve got one idea…” he leans back “i was thinking perhaps any song by zico, i’ve performed it before, i felt like if i rapped it, it would show how much i’ve improved”. “do you have any rap song you think would fit me?”.

TZ STUDIOS - BAEK EDITION
It didn't matter how much Baek tried to come up with an idea for his studio, but he would come out blank every time. That's why, at some point, he just gave up on it and decided to go with what he knew best and wished that would be enough for the time being.
Baek has no interest in producing, and he's not a dancer either, so both ideas of having a room full of sound equipment and instruments or a dance practice place didn't fit in with what he needed. Maybe that's why it took him so long to figure out what he wanted to do.
First of all, he didn't want to follow a clean/minimalistic palette because that's simply too boring and too reminiscent of the style his parents like, and since he's still in his detaching from family trauma phase, he doesn't want any of that in a space that is supposed to be his.
That's why one of the first things he gets for his studio is a comfy, green sofa because he doesn't think he'll spend a lot of time sweating in this place (even though mirrors are covering a whole wall, just in case). The next thing that comes is a sound system of quality that allows him to practice singing and prepare for his performances. There's also a computer set because you never know when he's going to need it.
Because Baek enjoys photography, there are a few of his works on the walls near the PC setup. It ranges from solo shots of himself, and his brother, and landscapes. There are also a few polaroid pictures of TZ members and one of their fans taken during a concert (not by him).
RULES
[ Silence is not mandatory, but encouraged ]
Especially if you're just coming into the room, someone else might already be there doing something (practicing, writing, sleeping). So be a sweetheart and read the room before storming in and making too much noise. Once you've got a good grip on what's happening inside, act accordingly.
[ Share your food. Asking if someone wants a bite won't kill you ]
If you're bringing food, at least offer it to the other people who are already there or who eventually come after you. Sharing is caring might be a sweet thought, but this is just a basic courtesy.
[ Clean after yourselves. We're all grownups ]
Baek isn't the tidiest person, so he's not requesting that people leave the room impeccably clean, but if you brought food, take the trash out. If you practiced dancing and sweat a lot, don't leave it on the floor to facilitate stains and make it smelly. Keep it clean so they can use this space comfortably for as long as possible.
[ Avoid putting your shoes on the couch ]
It's a pretty green couch. If you feel like putting your feet up (like Baek always does), take off your shoes and maybe even your socks. If you really can't take them off for some reason, just leave your feet hanging on the sides of the sofá.
[ Please refrain from touching/moving his pictures ]
Your hands have oils and dirt and a bunch of other things that when in contact with photographs, might lessen their lifespan, so don't manipulate them if you can avoid it.

"You say that because you have the face for the cameras," Baek says with a smile. It's not like he's not good-looking himself. Baek has mirrors and pictures of him taken constantly. And even before that, he had parents who had nothing better to say about him other than his good appearance. Kai, though, sits in a different baseline, in Baek's opinion. He's not an expert to pinpoint exactly what it is about Kai that makes him stand out, but Baek knows a first glance that his groupmate has no reason to fear standing in front of a photographer.
At the younger's remark, Baek hovers his hand over his hair and ticks his head to the side, "It does look good, right? Showing off my forehead seems to be the way to success these days," and Baek is forever thankful for all the staff who works with them because despite being around for a little bit, Baek goes basic most of the time. "I think they'll ask me to cut it soon, though. It's getting too long."

2024 might be Baek's year. Not that 2023 was bad. He had a lot of work and was busy for most of the year, but back then, he had no perspective of what the future had stored for him. Now, with his career starting with Type Zero, things are looking up. One of his goals for the new year was to have a solo photoshoot for a magazine for example, and not even two months in, he's already being given the chance to appear on the cover of ELLE. Of course, it's not a solo thing since Hyoseop and Kai are also working with him on this, but it still is an accomplishment. And if he's honest, Baek is glad they are around.
"I used to think magazine pictorials were the most boring thing someone could take part in," Baek comments to Kai as the staff leaves the room to get them more accessories for the shot. Baek likes it when he's given rings to use for fidgeting purposes, and he's glad he has been given quite few today, "and now look at me. I don't even mind being dressed up to take pictures. You're looking great, by the way."

a performance alone
solo performance, not something hyoseop had done in a while. there was the cafe performances, which was quite a while ago, but he enjoyed them. hyoseop had been used to perform with others, his dance and singing skills not very outstanding, if he performed alone it was easier to see his lacking. and though hyoseop still didn’t feel confident in neither his dance nor singing, legacy had let him debut, and he had to remind himself that they’d let him debut, he wasn’t all bad.
he sits with baekhyun, trying to figure out suggestions for his solo performance for their upcoming fan meeting. “i wanna do rapping, but, i always do rapping” he looks up at baekhyun, “then again, i always do rapping because that’s what i’m best at” he shrugs. “any skills you’ll be focusing on for the solo performance?” he hums, “i didn’t think it would be so difficult to find songs and what i wanna do” he sighs.

LOVE MINIFES - MARCH 14
Maybe it's because he's new at this, but Baek always found it especially challenging to interact with a crowd when they performed. Type Zero's choreographies aren't easy either, and with an event related to White Day, he had expected them to tone it down, but Make a Wish and Spray aren't exactly the type of songs you can slack off.
That's why having Like a Movie in their setlist proved to be a true blessing. It's one of Baek's favorite songs from his debut album and, as a vocalist, one of the most fun to sing, too. Maybe he's just too self-centered, but he'll take every chance to show off his singing abilities, especially when it's the one thing that can make him stand out in a group full of very talented dancers.
This is not the type of song you hype the crowd for noise, so when the instrumental starts playing, and they give the cue, Baek encourages their audience to raise their hands, phones, or lightsticks and lightly swing them. It's not necessarily a happy song, but just standing there feels wrong, so when Baek walks to his end, he tries to make eye contact with people as much as he can, smiles, and waves when he gets the chance. Baek gets some responses from the public when he crouches near the edge of the stage and does nothing but tilt his head as his group mates sing their parts, which is a curious reaction.
"Today was great. Thank you for coming all the way here to support us. I hope you had fun," he says when the song is over, and they line up again to greet the audience one final time. "Did anyone bring their significant other to today's concert?" to which he got a few raised hands, "thank you for coming along with your partner. I hope you also had fun, and I also expect we get the chance to see each other again in the future," he waves again and, when the time comes, he bows before exiting the stage.

In retrospect, after some quick thinking and realization, Baek thinks he might have overstepped, but at this point, he can't turn around, right? He wouldn't be pleased to have someone approach you and say, "You're doing it wrong," turn on their back and leave. It would be even more frustrating, so he sucks it up and nods.
"It's nice to meet you, Soji," Baek says with a smile, "That's right! I'm surprised you recognized me. It hasn't been that long since I debuted. People usually aren't so sure about it," which is and isn't true. Baek is by no means popular, but it's not like he has a face that goes unnoticed. It's fake modesty with a sprinkle of truth. "I'm not sure about clearly needing to improve your technique since you seem to be doing well enough," he motions in Soji's direction. They appear to have a similar build, and now that he's not leaning against anything or sitting down, Baek notices how tall the other really is.
"It's more about safety. I used to do the same thing, and my fitness coach scolded me for it," one of the perks of being in a team now. "It's the way you're locking your elbows. If you keep doing it the way you were, there are chances you could hurt your shoulder or your clavicle.
Sojin, in the middle of controlling his breathing, raised his brow, a little surprised by his sudden offer. "Uh, no, I don't mind," he replied, a bit hesitant. It wasn't his first time in the gym, and considering he's always been somewhat of an athlete, he wasn't prepared to hear his form was off - following his mood lately. Not to mention he wasn't used to people approaching him, let alone offering to spot him.
"I suppose a refresher wouldn't hurt," remarked Sojin as he lowered his music and stepped back. As the other person stepped closer, Sojin slowly began to realize that it was Baekhyun from the group Type Zero - his label mate. Sojin, who had just been accepted as an actor, was surprised to see Baekhyun. However, he quickly remembered that Baekhyun just criticized Sojin's athletic form. Sojin clenched his jaw ashamed that an idol was pointing out his flaws.
"Okay, well, thank you for the offer to spot me. I guess I could use a second pair of eyes." Sojin smirked, "Baekhyun, right? I'm Sojin, my friends call me Soji. By the way, could you tell me what exactly is wrong with my form while I'm lifting? Clearly, I need to improve my technique."

Because of Type Zero's comeback in November, the months that led them to that event were filled with dance practices, studio recording, visits to the hairdresser, and constant workouts. Except for going to the gym, most of the things were done more frequently than Baek was used to, so now that things have calmed down significantly, he can finally do things sparingly.
He has been doing relatively well now. It's the same set every three months, and he had a trainer who'd help him in the beginning, but now he's on his own because he got the hang of it (sure). No one admits that working out alone can be a little boring, though. It depends on his mood, but now, that might be an explanation as to why he approached someone at random. Or not at random, he had seen the guy other times, but still.
"Oh, sorry. I think I might be a little inconvenient to you," Baek gave him a yellow smile and scratched the back of his head. Now that they started conversing, he might as well finish what he started. "Do you mind if I spot you? From where I was looking, it looked like your form wasn't 100%, and you know, gym injuries are the last thing we need."

Sojin had been going through an emotional rough patch lately, feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed. He needed an outlet to burn off some of his angst and decided to go hit the local gym in the late afternoon. As he walked in, he could feel the intensity of the atmosphere, the sound of weights clanging and people grunting as they pushed themselves to the limit.
He made his way to the back of the gym, where there weren't many people. He ran full speed on the treadmill for three minutes to build up his heart rate, then he moved to the bench press. He started working out vigorously, feeling the burn in his muscles as he pushed himself harder. In the midst of his workout, he noticed someone standing next to him, watching him intently. It was a fellow gym-goer, a guy around his age who looked kind of familiar and looked to be in great shape.
Sojin didn't want to be rude, so he took off his headphones and turned to the guy. "Huh, did you say something?" he asked the guy, ...really to give his legs a break.

Baek shakes his head and chuckles as he puts the eggs aside and wipes his hand on the dishcloth they were given just in case. He adores Hyoseop, but compared to his group mate, he has done far enough for the two of them. "You can't be perfect. If you were good at everything, it would be hard to keep up. This makes you look humble," he reassured Hyoseop, even though he knew he probably didn't need that from Baek. It's not that serious, after all.
"Hey, at least you didn't have to drink the juice of 12 lemons. Thankfully, the rice paddle was big enough to sweeten the whole thing, but I can feel the sweat on my hairline just thinking about it again," Baek shivers as he feels his mouth salivating at the thought. At Hyoseop's comment Baek laughs sincerely and nods, "okay. I'll leave the protection of our treasures to you. Like a papa penguin."
lgcbaekhyun
"My grandmother spoiled us a lot, but she did teach me the basics, not that I retained much of what she taught me. She would make us mouthwatering homemade food, and in exchange, I would help her peel things, mincing garlic, all of that stuff," surely, his parents never fit the good parents' category. He wouldn't even say they were in the parents' category to begin with, but his grandma was the reason why he turned out an okay human being. Baekhyun throws his head back and laughs, amused at Hyoseop's comment. "You can cook us delicious meals, and I'll make sure the eggs are peeled and the vegetables are cut nicely," he replies, still smiling. "You have to be super gentle because they are tiny, and it's easy to make them look ugly, too. It's annoying, but you're doing alright."
“my mom was the one who taught me how to cook, it’s with practice and her i’ve learned to cut vegetables and fruit so fast, i’d say normally i’m good at peeling eggs, but these are just so small” he sighs, then chuckles. if this was a competition in something physical he’d probably do well, but his big hands aren’t helping in this mission, he’s not going to complain about his big hands though, maybe they’ll be useful for something else in this variety show.
“that’s a deal, you peel, i cook” he giggles. “i’m not very lucky in this show, from a quiz where i guess everything wrong, to small eggs my hands can’t handle”. “well, at least if someone comes and tries to ruin our eggs i can scare them away, this big body is useful” he hits himself on his chest, smile on his lips.
