"i mean, if you have a photocard, i'll be happy to sign it for you," she teases, though she's being half serious. she's had a few trainees, whom she didn't know, ask her to sign things in the halls of legacy and it amuses her every single time.

it's just not something that one gets used to. or at least, not her. though at least, she's more used to the idea of being famous within legacy.

though when haeun says that she's been doing good, somin can't help but smile. she remembered her friend hadn't been doing great a while ago, so she's happy to hear that she's doing better. she doesn't mention it outright though, reaching out to throw her arm around the other girl's shoulders.

she shrugs. does she have a proper answer for this? not really. "busy." it's the truth, considering that they had the sub-unit debut a while ago and were still doing things for it. "it's been fun though, fulfilling i guess. living my dream, you know?"

honestly she's been so busy since debut that she's been pretty bad with keeping up with her friends who were either in different career paths or, honestly, not in crystallis. it's a little bit hard to reach out when all she wants to do is sleep when she's off work. or game, and she has an entirely different friend group for that.

it's not that she didn't want to, but it's just not something that she has the mental capacity for.

feeling a tap on her shoulder, she turns from where she had been scrolling in her kakaotalk chats, looking for something though at this point she's forgotten what she had been searching for. hearing the words before she processes that the voice is familiar, she hums and looks up, about to agree before she sees the face attached to the voice.

"haeunnie," she greets, surprised but pleasantly so.

"you have my autograph," somin responds easily, not feeling really any animosity at all. she does feel like it was both of their faults for not reaching out more, though she wonders why it feels like it's been literal ages since she last saw the other. "how are you?"

his response brings a smile to her face, considering that she really wasn't expecting him to reply so quickly. she had only just tabbed out of their kakaotalk chat to look at some cute sunglasses when her phone buzzed in her hand. she glances down, and grins, sending back an easy see you! before she picks up the sunglasses again.

the people who were important would always be important, no matter how much time had passed.

she's just glad that he's not holding it against her for being so absent lately. she'll have to treat him to this meal to make up for being busy, even though that part is fully out of her control.

she chats with the vendor, knowing she still has some time before he arrives if only because she was literally practically outside of the restaurant before she had texted him, wanting company even if it wasn't planned in any sense.

i'm nearby, just text me when you've arrived!

she buys the sunglasses, and then gets a second pair too because why not right? the vendor is nice and gives her a small discount before she hurries to the restaurant, hoping that he hadn't arrived without her noticing and she checks her phone quickly to see if he had said anything.

but then she sees him in the distance, and instead of texting him somin hurries to sneak up behind him, rushing to grab his shoulders. "guess who!" she says, trying to cover his eyes even though it's obvious who it is, probably. hopefully.

he tries his best to keep an open mind, to remind himself — day in, day out — that second, third, chances don't come easy. that this sort of opportunity is one he needs to appreciate, to cherish.

in a way, jung ahin is a master of discipline, and on most days that end in y, he has no issue staying focus, and less issue putting his all into what might as well be his last chance.

but humans are hardly machines. and he's far from perfect.

so: today drags on a little longer than it should, and he feels a heavy weight of fatigue on his shoulders, a drag in his step that he has to work extra hard to conceal. by the time the last mandatory practice of the day comes to a desperate close, the last thing he wants to do is subject himself to more.

(but third, last, chances don't come easy. and how many people would he be disappointing if he started slacking off now —?)

his phone buzzes, snapping him out of his momentary trance. the name on his screen draws an almost immediate smile out of him, and ahin''s quick to respond, ever dutiful:

now? i thought you were busy these days... how rare 😱 better sprint over right this second! see you soon!

last chances don't come easy, but neither do the people who keep him anchored. his feet start moving to an all-too familiar neighborhood in just a matter of seconds.

and by the time he shows up at the restaurant, stopping at the awning to peek at his phone, his shoulders already feel lighter.

haeun was feeling incredibly nervous. her palms were sweating and the feeling of anxiety was starting to bubble up. no, she wasn't meeting her favourite celebrity (well, kind of?), nor was she giving a presentation in front of an entire class.

no, she was talking to somin for the first time in... geez, a while.

it was her fault. she knew it was. while she did work on the self-blame and giving herself more grace, the reality was that the lack of communication between the two girls was mostly fault of her own. haeun stopped reaching out, stopped giving excitable responses. no one wants to be around someone who is that depressed. especially someone with as busy as a schedule as somin.

the thoughts gnawed at her as she approached the other a little shyly. she tapped on somin's shoulder, giving the other a small smile. "hey," she says, still feeling unsure with how the interaction will go. hopefully well, she thinks, but there's always a chance. "can i get your autograph?"

a joke. an olive branch. 'please don't hate me,' she thinks.

of course it's a valorant alternate universe for somin, what else would it be?

considering all the agents, and since jett already exists as a korean agent in canon lore, it's unlikely that they would add another korean agent but let's just run with it. she would have to do something different than jett, which is funny because i think somin would probably be a duelist main.

either way, she could probably be a controller or some sort, something like clove where her abilities would enable them top get onto site more quickly.

in the lore, she would have come across radianite by accident and was hurt by it somehow. her parents turned her away before the valorant protocol found her, as she was just wandering the streets of seoul trying not to hurt anyone and was trying to help with her powers wherever possible.

she would definitely have smokes of some sort, being able to drop them with use of a map. the radianite gave her powers of teleportation of sorts, where she can travel small distances that she can see. or, alternatively, maybe she can only teleport through walls, which would be a little finicky and dangerous but also a fun skill to have.

but it would probably be a fun power to have, if she was able to use it correctly.

while training to be able to go out and actually be an active agent in the protocol, somin would probably act pretty similar to how she does now. she's serious when it matters but will joke around if she can, but only if it's safe to do so. it's similar in terms of how she is on and off stage, thinking of the difference between how she is when she's on camera and when she's just bumming around at home with the other members.

she would probably be really close to the younger agents, namely gekko, neon and clove, who she would get along with just because of similar ages and interests. and she would probably also be close to jett, just because they're both from korea and would at least bond over that.

lastly, since all of the agents have an agent name, it's easy to know what hers is: selene.

being a radio host isn't something that she's ever tried out before but she'll admit that she thinks it's pretty fun so far. it's something that she might have to look into and maybe ask for gigs doing, but that's something for future somin to think about. outside of that, somin is here with a friend and a group member so she's pretty comfortable in this new setting. perhaps that's why.

either way, she's quick to latch onto the theme they were given for this interview.

"since spring is the perfect weather to start thinking about outdoor outings," somin starts, thinking about the han river and how fun it would be to go on a picnic during this time, "what is your favourite springtime activity?"

"what's that saying in english, april showers bring may flowers, do you like flowers?" she asks, tapping on her bottom lip and thinking about what she would want to do this spring. "i always like looking at the cherry blossoms in the spring, though it's been getting really crowded in yeouido and at seokchon lake nowadays .."

it's been a hectic couple months preparing for everything that beryl was doing, considering that they were promoting as an actual unit. it was fun, honestly, but she finds herself not being able to keep track of anything that isn't already in her schedule.

which includes harassing one of her favourite people.

she's been keeping the company of mostly her beryl members and their immediate staff, which isn't terrible considering she loves her members and loves spending time with them, but she feels a little bad that she's been terrible with her personal connections outside of them.

she decides, on one of her free nights, that she needs to put an end to this. she had made a vague new year's resolution this year, or last year she doesn't really remember, to be more selfish and to do more things that she wants.

so she texts ahin on a whim, just a short meet me at the gukbap place? and then heads out. somin's not expecting him to drop everything for her, of course, and spends some time just window shopping as she waits for a reply.

ever since her debut three years ago, she's been going, going, going. never looking back. she had wondered, of course, what her parents might think of this.

there's no way they would've missed this, no matter how much they pretended they didn't have a daughter. no matter how much they insisted their eldest had moved to seoul for a job that they didn't approve of. no matter hard they pretended she didn't exist.

despite everything, somin is deeply fond of her hometown and has mentioned busan in enough interviews that she's sure the whispers have started in her old stomping grounds. it's been three years for fuck's sake. and she's never gotten any plastic surgery, so her parents couldn't even pretend not to recognize her.

not when she has her dad's nose, her mom's cheekbones, her dad's smile.

she hopes to god that they're harassed with images of her, of her latest magazine shoot, crystallis' brand endorsements, their comeback news plastering the subway stations.

part of her hopes to be able to become the face of a soju brand just so they're forced to plaster her face on the tables and the walls of their seafood restaurant.

she stares at the messages from her younger brother, the only person in her immediate family that she keeps in contact with. he had promised her that he wouldn't share her new kakaotalk with their parents, knowing that that relationship was probably unfixable.

she sighs, trying not to let it bother her (again), thinking about all the holidays that she had spent away from busan. it hurts a little, every year that she spends chuseok and seollal with her members or her members' families, but somin's learned that pain is a reminder that she has to keep going too.

"i've never done it but i love the idea of it," somin admits, having looked into darkrooms and stuff but never really taken the chance to actually go out and do it. she wouldn't say that photography was something she was super interested in before, but the idea of doing something like that actually sounds super cool. and, honestly, she's always down to try something new. "please let me come if you go!"

she nods, agreeing easily with yujin's choice considering she had been feeling a little indecisive as it was. if this had been a cafe that she regularly went to, the choices would have been much easier, of course, but that was the whole fun part of cafe hopping right?

"yeah, you can have a sip of mine too, unnie," she says, following after the other girl as she looks over the pastries, grabbing a plate too and just adding one of the pastries that had the 'signature!' label on it. you couldn't go wrong with trying what the cafe was famous for right?

"really? have you ever thought about processing your own film in a darkroom? I've been meaning to find a studio to get my hands on some old film." yujin had always wondered where life would take her if she wasn't in her current position. photography had always been a special hobby for her, looking back on memories and reflecting. and now? she wants to go a little deeper into the process and learn something new. "you're free to join me if that sparks your interest." she sends somin a playful wink.

yujin decided to pick up a smaller plate and grab one of the pastries that did catch her eye. "maybe we can split this..." she muttered, looking up at the menu again to make any last-minute decisions on her drink choice. call her picky, but she wanted to make sure money was not wasted on something either didn't like.

"that's why i always go for a smaller drink," she said. "if you want to try a sip of mine just to taste test, I wouldn't care." after all, she wanted this to be an enjoyable moment of finding new places to recommend to others later down the line.

"yesss!" she's happy that yura took her suggestion and agreed with it, though if they got something layered, like a caramel macchiato or something, it would also look nice. but considering this is for a photoshoot, she thinks the fruity drinks also give off better 'summer vibes' right?

"i think the pictures you took for me back then would've been perfect for a beach stroll theme," somin sighs a little, thinking back to their little impromptu trip they had taken just because they had had a few days off. she had been blonde back then and that had been so good for the summer vibes. part of her wonders what the next crazy hairstyles they would get would be, but decides that's not something for her to worry about for now.

she pauses, the question slowly sinking in as she considers what yura had said. "wait, i think so?" she says, eyes widening almost comically and she turns to look at her friend in almost disbelief. "wait, that's actually crazy," she adds after a moment of processing that. "i can't believe it's been three years already?"

there's some silence as she considers it before she nods. "i mean, we always get a few days of break during the summer ... i would be so down to come up here every year. we could make it a thing for sure!"

yura nods, agreeing with somin's suggestion. "a smoothie would be good, let's get a colourful one! like strawberry or something red maybe? i wonder if they have any specialties here," she murmurs, half to herself, half loud enough for the other to hear as she continues glancing over the menu board.

then she hears what somin says and looks up and at the other with a grin. "i do remember, you took those nice photos for me right? i uploaded some on our instagram back then," she laughs, remembering the mini photoshoot they had even though it was becoming autumn when she ended up posting them. "we didn't have enough time to visit here and the other one was closer so i'm glad we have the chance to now," she agrees. "it looks as good as the reviews said too!" the staff had chosen the location well as yura could quickly tell once they arrived that the photos would turn out nice, in part thanks to the visually appealing setting.

"that feels so long ago though, wow..." her voice trails off as she thinks deeper about the last time they came here, remembering that they had gone a few years ago. "wasn't that during our debut year?!" it was strange, realizing that because it didn't feel like they had debuted for that long but in fact, it's already been three years. "maybe we should make a tradition of coming here every year now," she jokes, although she wouldn't be opposed if it came true.
