An online journal illustrating the development of inspiring posters. Information regarding week by week lectures, extra curricular activity, research and construction of my final images is documented here. Everything is dated accordingly and although reflection on particular weeks has been done sufficiently after, all content is covered.

Week 13: 30.3.17
Edging closer to the deadline, it is important that I have finalised all my content to give me sufficient time to upload it all to my website and blog. After completing my posters I was able to upload these in a slideshow format with accompanying captions which assists in explaining them. Tying in with these images were four photos that I had taken which I believe sum up the development of the graphic designs. I’ve included an image of all the sketches I have made, my first attempt of scanning, tracing and filling an image with colour, the first stages of combining all the images and finally I’ve shown the process of aligning the colours between each poster. I’m disappointed with how the third final image looks on my digital portfolio as the speech bubble stating ‘making friends is great!’ does not appear clear in such a small format as the images are intended for use on such a wider scale.
Similar issues occurred whilst uploading my video to my Weebly page. Despite saving the video off iMovie in HD, there seem to be issues with the resolution and images appear slightly blurred. Although the relevant information is present through the video, any viewers may be misled from the concept for this reason.
Now that everything is uploaded, I can continue with Tuesday’s workshop and begin my evaluation. It’s been interesting to uncover skills I never knew I had or never thought I would need to use through this assignment, which has opened up an opportunity for development for me. Regardless that I welcomed my final concept late throughout the process and have had limited time to learn to use Illustrator, I think that my final images are appropriately crafted and well suited for the target audience whilst portraying a strong concept. It was sensible and appropriate for me to deter my first two concepts due to lack of inspiration or lack of ability as pursuing either of these would have had a fabricated outcome, understanding this is a strong skill to produce honest, inspiring work where the maximum relevant research can be gathered for support.
In retrospect, I would have persisted to use Wix as the a format for my website and blog as using the combination of Weebly and tumblr allowed to learn to use multiple platforms, however it doesn’t give my websites as much of a professional edge. Limited themes for my tumblr meant the effect dropped as I wanted it to coincide well with the Weebly.
Overall, I am pleased with my work which I attribute to my research which has given me a bold concept and strong delivery.

Week 13: 29.3.17
As the last workshop covering this assignment, there was focus on the reflection of my work. To understand how to reflect on our work, Jennifer asked us to firstly pitch our idea to a partner in under two minutes. With such a strong concept for my work, I was able to do this in around 30 seconds which was gratifying as I applied this to the thinking that my idea was solid and easy to understand.
We then had the opportunity to switch up our thinking style as we were asked to draw our final concept on the outline of a person. As it was difficult to comprehend the three images onto the outline, I drew what the optimum outcome of my advice posters would be. I envisioned the outline as a child and featured an illustration of the tortoise on its head, representing that the child is consciously remembering the tortoise when they are feeling anxious about making friends. In the image, I have surrounded the child with other children and demonstrated that they are talking a lot and that they have conquered their shyness.
After changing our thinking style once, we then changed it back. Jennifer asked us to make an elevator pitch which takes 60 seconds or less and describes the problem, solution, target market, competition and recommendations of our idea. My elevator pitch was very straightforward; I identified the problem is that children are shy. The solution is my advice regarding being brave, pushing out of the comfort zone and understanding that others are not judging them. The target market is children. For this particular brief, it is not relevant to have competition however if I was to assimilate the competition it would be teachers and parents who offer children advice that may be passed, whereas my work connects with children in a different way. And the recommendations for my final posters are that they are displayed together in an environment such as a school or a children’s doctor’s waiting room where they will have optimum impact with the target consumer.

Week 13: 28.3.17
After today’s lecture, I attended a drop in with Zoe to configure the remainder of my work. After showing Zoe my video in process she has offered me guidance by recommending that I use a GIF maker on my iPhone to get a more professional look than my slideshow idea. I instantly saw a better result for my video after playing around with this app and once I have finished my final slide, I will add this on.
I’d also been struggling with the logistics of the brief and talking to Zoe resolved my issues. My query was that I had been misunderstanding the rules regarding the use of text on my images. Zoe confirmed that I was able to use text in the form of speech bubbles; the brief requires no text to be used to avoid cliché inspiring quotes. This information enables me to add more context to my work to clarify to the audience exactly what is happening in my posters. I do not want to use too much text in the speech bubbles as looking back at Georgie Wood’s lecture, she stated that over 80% of activity online is text based, and I want to ensure my images are powerful enough to not rely on too much wording. More suitable is the idea of including multiple speech marks into my video to help explain my concept further.

Week 12: 27.3.17
My images are finally coming together, I have created the first two and will proceed to the final one. I must ensure here that my illustrations of the animals look the exact same and are highly distinguishable in order for my work to look professional.
Having already created some material, I can start to put my video together using iMovie; I have never made a video before and I am not familiar with the software, but for the purpose of this assignment this app is easy to use and gives great results. On introduction to my video, I have added some of my primary research where I asked people what advice they would give to someone to get over their shyness. Following that I have started to create a slideshow step-by-step of the features I have added on Illustrator, this shows the layers to my work and my development. Once my final slide has finished I will add this in and choose a suitable audio to play over it.
