Harmless fun seemed like a deliberate underestimation on his part, but Percy wasn’t willing to argue with him. Instead she turned her attention to the various pedestrians, filled with impish joy as she picked their first ‘volunteer.’ It came in the shape of a middle aged woman with a bad haircut, loudly blabbing away on her phone as she passed by. “Hmm… what about her?”

“Hmm,” they muse, taking in the woman the other picks out, noting the looks she’s getting from the other park goers as she yells into her phone. “Well she certainly won’t be getting any sympathy points for the others,” He notes, deciding to start small. His eyes flash blue and slowly a mid-size length of toilet paper appears from the end of her pants, causing the onlookers to chuckle to themselves as she passes by.

“I’m sure you know how betrothals work.” Zayn retorted, the reckless spark still illuminated from his dark irises. “Well, sad to see you’ve been resorted to this.” Zayn couldn’t help but laugh as he motioned his arm out towards the area around them. “Oh do tell me, because I’m really bored you see. You remember, I’m a detail type of person.” Zayn snickered to them. Sure, he couldn’t turn into a wolf this second. That didn’t mean he wouldn’t use his amplified powers against the other.

“I’m familiar with their concept, yes, but I also know that they’re not permanent,” They tease, winking at the other. “Ah, is it sad? To simply enjoy a nice day at the park?” It’s always good to practice one’s powers every now and then, help keep the mind sharp. And what better way that to mess with unsuspecting strangers who will most likely forget about the small event by the end of the week. “Just some harmless pranks is all, handsome. A frozen puddle here, a dog with two tails there - consider it like a play and I’m a director. If you’re bored, would you like to be my lead actor?”

anna leans against the back of one of the chairs, watching as their eyes change colour, fascinated by his abilities. this was something new to her, something which she had never witnessed before but she was mesmerized by how everything changed. the chair she was leaning against is suddenly transformed into a tree, the air seemed thicker with the humidity and the sound of birds caught her attention. “this feels so real.” she gasps. and although she is a little jealous that her magic couldn’t create an illusion as perfect as this

“this is perfect.” she said, even if it wouldn’t automatically cure her hangover she could easily get used to escaping the the bustling city for a bit of peace like this. “hmm, thank you, looks delicious.” she says as she picks up a fork to dig in an take a bite of the french toast.

illusions came naturally to fox spirits, most likely due to their connection with the realm beyond. it’s easier to do the more experience one had, and with jin being one of the oldest huli jings around, he definitely had it. it takes a strong mind to break one of his illusions and even then he usually can just fool them into thinking they’ve broken it before they do.

“no thanks needed,” he says, taking a sip of his warm tea before adding more honey to it. “how have things been? new york is quite the topic of conversation in other places in the world.”

“I’d like to think everyone can live in harmony, but sometimes it seems impossible.” Minh replied with a shake of her head. The way she saw it, it had to be someone who knew about the supernatural and had access to a witch that was causing problems. Minh was quite certain of that fact based on the events that had happened in the last few months. “I’m part of the Lux Coven.”

“It is a rare thing, but as long as there are those that seek our destruction, it will never happen.” Though he can’t really complain, his kind like chaos and the idea of anything being harmonious almost made him sick to his stomach. “Ah, a witch. What role has your coven played in all this? With the small council?”

Ash couldn’t help but snort a little. “That is giving me too much credit. I am just ensuring Staten Island is as represented as possible so decisions are not made that could effect us even more.” But it was hard when all of the species were lumped together…it reminded Ash too much of the times he watched his people be pulled a part or pushed together with others. It was belittling and rude to these proud species. “…and its in my species to aid.” He admitted with a soft chuckle. Ash sighed softly when the other made it sound like they were using their illusionary abilities. But, he was his elder…so Ash bit his tongue. “I did. I apologize for not introducing myself earlier.” Ash leaned back on the bench, thick arms crossed over his chest. “How much of the council do you already know?” Ash asked, not wanting to repeat anything the other knew.

“Still, the other fox spirits had nothing but kind words in regards to you and it’s in my species to remember those that do right by us,” He says, adjusting in his seat. “I know the council consists of leaders from the vampire clans, the covens, werewolf packs, and hunters. I know they’ve decided to each get their own slice of pie while making the rest of us share the smallest slice.” And that just won’t do. The Huli Jing did not share and they did not take orders from those that weren’t their own - well, they didn’t really take orders from each other either but respect was given to those that were around longer. “It is very clear this council does not have my kind’s best interest but I am curious as to what you think?”

bruno knew everyone and anyone, his extrovert nature is what makes people stick around. the cavani’s always ensured their kids could hold a conversation, be complete and utter charmers. instilled with the ability to chat the most monotone of city-dwellers. even if he never met anyone in person, he heard about them though the supernatural grapevine. “enjoying being back in the city?” eyes shift over to the other. “sorry, don’t mean to be a creep. i’m bruno cavani – you’re li jinhai, right?”

they weren’t surprised to be recognized, in fact they pretty much expect it whenever they enter a crowded place. though the usual demographic of his fans are in the late teens or early twenties, jin smiles at the stranger anyways. “i am, and i’m enjoying it very much,” he tells him, turning in his stool to face the other male more directly. “are you a fan of diving?” he asks, wondering if that’s how the other recognized him.

“I guess I cannot relate.” Minh told him as she thought she’d never get to the point where she enjoyed danger. She hated feeling like something was going to happen, and had developed anxiety about it. Minh hated feeling like she was living in fear, but lately that had been the reality. “It’s just not the safest time to be different around here. Bad things seem to happen to people who are.” She explained as Minh felt that nearly every bad thing to happen had targeted the supernatural community.

“You don’t say,” he responds, leaning closer. “Funny how that works. Each one of us that is different is capable of bringing this city down to it’s knees, yet we play nice and by the rules. And look where that’s gotten us,” He glances around the park, taking in every oblivious human as they walk around. “They should be worshipping us like kings...and queens,” He adds, smiling at the other. “So tell me, little one, what makes you different?”

Ash rubbed his hands along his jeans, not one to talk about such things so openly. Especially with the latest incidents still so fresh. “Hound.” He replied quietly, offering the other a polite dip of his head before offering a hand to shake. “Ash Doe.”

He sits a little straighter as his interest is piqued. “Ah, so you’re the man helping run things in Staten Island,” He notes. His eyes flash blue before his fox grins returns. “My fellow fox spirits have mentioned you, hound. You must have heard of my arrival as well.” He glances around the park. “No need to worry about being overheard, they cannot see us and if they get too close-” he nods to the pack of squirrels he made out of his illusions. “They will be chased away. So tell me about this council I’ve been hearing so much about.”

“I’ve seen you terrorizing the humans.” She’s as blunt as ever. Still, she’s impressed and it shows. No self-respecting faerie would give up the opportunity to mess with humans, and Percy was no different. Sure, she has no idea just what the man in front of her is. And yes, it’s incredibly risky to trick humans so publicly. That’s never stopped her, though. “Can I join? It looks like fun.”

Jin clutches the imaginary pearls on his chest. “Terrorizing? And here I thought I was just having some harmless fun.” Her interest brings a smile to his face, it’s not often someone comes along with an itching to sew chaos, even it’s as small as giving a few humans in a park an illusion. “Of course you can. Would you like the honors of choosing our next volunteer?” He was curious now to see what the other had in store.

Minh was walking in the park on her way home from work. She is passing by a puddle when she noticed one in front of her suddenly became frozen. Minh looked around slowly until she found the source of what she assumed was a type of magic. The small woman walked towards Jin with a small smile on her face. “You know, as harmless as your mischief probably seems to you, I am not sure this is a good plan to preform it.” Minh told him quietly as she didn’t want to draw any attention to their conversation. “You never know who could be watching, and this city hasn’t exactly been the safest recently.”

His smile back to her was genuine as he had a small water dew dance in between his wiggling fingers. “You grow to enjoy all things danger and risk when you’ve walked on this earth as long as I have.” At least, one did when they were huli jings. They were agents of all things chaos and mischief, and Jin never once fought what they were born to do. They give her a look of interest. “You seem to be caught up on recent events here,” He notices. “I’ve just moved here myself, care to fill me in?”

“do it” she says without hesitation. “anything that will help.” she was beyond the point of caring what the fix could be, so long as she didn’t feel like this. “i refuse to believe what they say. just because i’m now thirty doesn’t mean i’m old, right? I mean you must be ancient, do you get hangovers?” she slowly sits up and the room feels like it is spinning around her uncontrollably. she is still for a moment whilst she waits for the spinning room to come to a halt.

“that’s okay, I don’t think coffee would help the headache anyway.” the witch adds as she picks up the bottle of aspirin and is quick to take a couple before walking over to the kitchen area.

“i’m going to ignore you calling me ancient but, yes, thirty is ridiculously young - even for you humans. now, lets see...” their eyes shines a deep blue as a light mist fills their apartment, transforming everything they could see until they were standing in a bamboo forest from his homeland. the area was silent, except for the occasional bird chirping. not too far away was a shrine dedicated to one of their cousins, thought he had some similar to it in other areas throughout the land.

his kitchen island remains unchanged, where he slides a plate of french toast to his guest. “surely this is better than the new york traffic noise, morning rush has just started.”

Ash had seen the other from a far. And while the other’s arrogance made Hound snarl internally, always wishing to have a talk with the trickster spirit, Ash was still cordial and respectful. After all, the other was his elder by a few hundred years….and old habits died hard. But when he saw the other being so open with his abilities so soon after a traumatic event…well. It irked the native. Ash waited until the other noticed him staring before arching a brow ever so slightly, moving closer. “Perhaps being more….subtle?” Ash suggested with a gentle smile to the other as he sat down next to the other.

The strangers suggestion makes Jin smile widely. “Where’s the fun in subtlety? Besides, most of these people will jus think they’ve had one too many espresso shots.” He could really mess up their minds, if he wanted to, but he was enjoying the lighter things for now. “It takes a mystic eye to be able to trace my illusions back to me,” He says, figuring there’s no reason to hide what he was. “What are you? Vamp? Fae? Phoenix?”

Buttons. Give Zayn a way in, and he would press them all with little to no remorse. Perhaps he could have gone along with his day without running into Jin. That was no longer plausible, and honestly he was a bit bored himself. Zehra had been right about the party, but he found himself still subscribed to the conspiracy theory that another ball would fall soon. A knowing wolfish grin across his lips, while he walked toward Jin with a certain air of recklessness around him. “That depends. What the fuck are you doing?”

Zayn Greaves. Now there was a hybrid that knew how to have fun. He returns the other’s wolfish grin with one of his own, though theirs is more similar to that of a tricky fox waiting for the lost traveler to come play their game. “Well, I could be doing you but I’ve heard through the grapevine you’ve gone off the market,” They tell the other, playfully pouting his lips. He wasn’t really upset, lovers come and go and it had been some years since they were last entangled with each other. “So instead I’m just having a little harmless fun.” Except it wasn’t all that harmless. In fact, it was probably only harmless to himself.

jin was most troublesome when he was bored. there are only so many ways to really entertain a huli jing and the most efficient are the tricks he causes himself. humans were the easiest prey (though he preferred werewolves) as they were the most gullible so he finds park to get comfortable in and let’s the mischief take over. first he has a jogger freak out because for a split second their dog had tow heads, then he uses his frost breath to freeze a puddle and cause a man in a suit to slip and fall. he’s just starting to warm up when he feels a pair of eyes on him. figuring it’s someone who recognizes him for his celebrity diving persona, he gives them a warm smile. “anything i can help you with?”

anna wakes up on an unfamiliar surface. her eyes slowly open and squint as the sun beams through a nearby window casting its shine across her face. she rolls over onto her front as a heavy breath leaves the witch. “tell me there’s a magic cure for a hangover. i’ll give you anything you want. i feel like i’ve been hit by a mack truck” she groans as she rubs her aching head.

jin had already been up long enough to shower (which, for him, meant soaking in a salt water tub for a few hours), have a zoom meeting with his publicist, and make breakfast by the time little anna finally stirred herself awake. he chuckles at her groaning, already placing a bottle of aspirin on the table next to her. “if there is one, i sure as hell don’t know it. best i can do is create an illusion that’ll give you a more relaxing setting.” he walks over to his kitchen in his open floor condo. “there’s breakfast, though i regret to inform you that there is no coffee. i’m afraid that’s an american custom i refuse to participate in.”

“Retired?” he questions as brows raise as he’s surprised. “What did you do to retire so young? Maybe I’m in the wrong line of work.” he comments with a small chuckle. Logan didn’t see early retirement being in the cards for him, not that he’d really want to right now. Some, his sister most likely, would say he’s married to the job having little time for much else. “Ah, welcome then. You could call this your welcome back party.”

Ok, now he was flat out annoyed but again, he kept his calm as he chuckled in response to the other’s question. “Not a fan of the Olympics, hm? Or, at least, not a fan of men’s diving. As well as I did in Tokyo, I must listen to my body when it says it’s had enough.” Lies. All lies. Truth was Jin has held back every time he’s medaled and could dominate for years to come, but he was pretending to be a normal human being and they, unfortunately, had limits. “I do look forward to commentating future sports events, though, and a few designers here think I have a career in modeling. So one door closes, another opens it seems.”

He smiles brighter. “Yes, I think I will treat this like my welcome party. Thank you for the lovely conversation, but I’ve spotted an old friend of mine. It was a pleasure to talk to you.”

“i’ll give it a try,” he says, a small amused chuckle follows his words. logan gives a nod to the bartender on shift and waits for them to approach before ordering two drinks. once placed in front of them logan takes a quick drink before placing the glass back down on the bar top. “don’t tell me you came back just for this event?” he asks. sure it was nice, people seemed to be having fun, but for him it was more networking than anything else. “Queens, born and raised.” he explains, not having left the tri-state area except for his time in virginia.

his smile hides his surprise. not many of the lives he’s lived have been as famous and recognizable as the one he currently lives as an olympic diver - or so he thought. “oh no, after retiring last year i’ve decided to relocate here permanently, but when i got my invitation i saw that it just so happened to fall on the night after i arrived.” he looks at the other man, not surprised he was born and raised here. queens had always been a developing borough in his eyes, he’s wondering how the area fares now. “i debated staying in that area, but it seemed like staten island was where i was needed the most.”
