(if she has to turn her head away afterwards because of a small coughing fit, well, that's for nadine to ignore, because lia certainly is.)

"i've liked them both and i still like them both. there is so much to like. i see it, even if they don't. it's easy for me to like people, i think. not so easy to tell them. because i get---you know how i get. my brain goes so fast sometimes, right?" faster than her body does, for sure.

a breathy sigh escapes lia's lips, then.

"thing is, though," she says quietly as nadine pauses the movie, "i don't really know if there's anything to like about me. i mean, yeah, i made animals one part of my personality, and rollerblading another, and basketball yet another. and games. because---i don't want people to look at me and see the girl with messed up lungs that spent the first year of her life in an incubator. and i know that's not really what you asked, but i've been thinking about it for a while. what if they get tired? of me? what if you get tired of me, deeny?"

out of everyone she's mentioned so far, lia likes nadine the most.

Out of all the things she expected Nadine to say, this wasn't one of them. She doesn't know how to feel about it. Then again, it's not like Lia's got a lot of room to feel much about anything, considering she wasn't anywhere near the Larusso's, much less the Valley, during Christmas.

(Grandpa had flown everyone out, citing that he's long overdue for a Christmas with his "best girls". Mami had scoffed and called him a filthy liar, but wasn't about to say no to a free trip.)

"Bet that freaked him out," Lia chuckles after a short coughing fit. She looks like a blanket burrito. Feels like one, too. "How'd it make you feel, Deeny? Was it good? Was it bad?"

It's sweet of her best friend to show up. It's sweeter, still, that Nadine is suffering through some of Lia's movie choices.

The Covenant doesn't really have a plot but it has Steven Strait and that's enough for her.

"You know I'm not mad, right? So you kissed him. It's not... the end of the world. I never understood the girl code and other unspoken rules. If you like someone, you like someone. I... I just---weird crush feelings - liking two people at once, liking people at all - it all pales in comparison to the fact that you are my best friend. You're more important than any crush on any boy I could ever have. Even if I warned you about my cold slash flu combo beforehand. So you can't be mad if or when I inevitably pass this thing onto you."

lia wants everyone to know that 1) mami and mom did not give her a turtle for christmas despite the fact that she asked and 2) she's cancelled her new year's plans because she came down with a cold / flu combo and is now watching tv shows / movies in bed and 3) despite these unfortunate setbacks, she will be making 2025 the year she gets a turtle, however.

"that doesn't even make sense. who sells which half? do i sell it to you? do you sell it to me?" it's a stupid saying. which is saying something, considering her mami's fondness of them. strong choice, he says after she tells him her milkshake choice, and she beams. tells him 'thank you'. "only if your doctors are my moms. are they?" and then, before he can answer: "wait, are you even allowed to talk about that? you know, what with doctor-patient confidentiality and all..." for a moment, the younger of the two is quiet. then she shrugs and says, softly: "i don't know how familiar you are with alpha elite - it's like cobra kai but... not. cobra kai adjacent, one might even say." a roll of the eyes and then: "all roads seem to lead to karate, instead of rome."

"y’know  what  they  say.    ⸻    a  problem  shared  is  a  problem  sold."    it  isn’t  a  saying  he  particularly  understands  himself.  denny  has  never  found  it  easy  to  share  his  business  either,  but  that  never  stopped  him  caring  about  somebody  else’s.  especially  if  it  was  happening  within  distance  of  his  restaurant.  he  took  pride  in  keeping  karate  brawls,  or  any  other  drama  surrounding  it,  at  a  safe  distance.    "strong  choice.  oreo  it  is."    he  passes  the  menu  over  to  a  server  with  a  grateful  smile,  repeating  the  order  to  them  in  a  low  murmur.  lia  soon  catches  his  attention  again  with  her  question,  however,  chuckling  in  response.    "you  sound  like  my  doctors."    it’s  a  gentle  joke,  existing  only  in  a  vague  attempt  to  make  lia  laugh.    "they  send  you  in  here  to  spy  on  me?"

THANK YOU - thanksgiving is a few days away & i've really genuinely been in my feelings so hard of late when it comes to our little corner of the rpc. this fandom has been amazing since i joined it in 2022, and i am very very thankful for it and all of you every day. i have met some of my very best friends because of this show and this trash site that has us all in a chokehold despite its many flaws (there's a reason we call it dumblr). it has been an incredibly trying year, and not just for me. many people have been feeling the weight of life and this month especially has been incredibly stressful, sad & rage inducing given the pol.itical climate. my dashboard has been a welcome reprieve from all of it, and getting to talk with all of you more has been such a delight and i wanted to say thank you.

thank you for being you, for your kindness, for you acceptance of new people in this rpc, for being so open to ocs when that is not always the case in the rpc. i just adore all of you and wanted to fully write and show my thanks. it's hard to do much over the internet, but i wanted to list off those of you in this community whether you're a single muse, multi muse, canon character, oc, have ck verses. i just think everyone should be aware of how wonderful this section of the rpc is.

"out there." a shrug. no further elaboration (yet). "it's a long story."

that's all he'll get. she's not going to trouble him with anything more. not when he's been nice enough to give her food on the house. "thank you," she says, softly. "and, um, oreo. please and thank you." she's never much liked banana milkshakes. or strawberry. or the weird green ones - not matcha - that mom drinks sometimes.

a beat and then, a question: "have you had something to eat yet? something to drink?"

"out  there?"    concerned    (  and  albeit  a  little  curious  )    gaze  follows  her  direction,  attempting  to  gain  a  better  perspective,  but  it’s  difficult  to  tell.  there’s  a  lot  of  people  gathering  out  front.  not  that  it  matters.  denny  has  always  sworn  his  place  is  somewhere  people  can  come,  no  questions  asked,  and  he  stands  by  that  promise,  head  nodding  to  show  he  hears  her  order.    "tell  you  what,  kid,"    he  starts,  collecting  the  menu  from  her  table.    "keep  that  allowance,  the  turtles  matter  more.  this  one’s  on  the  house."    he  doesn’t  need  the  money.  it’s  a  privilege  he  tries  not  to  use  to  his  advantage  too  often,  preferring  to  work  to  earn  something,  but  what  good  is  wealth  if  he  can’t  perform  the  occasional  good  deed?  these  kids  seemed  to  be  fighting  for  their  lives  since  karate  came  back  to  the  valley.  the  least  he  can  do  is  feed  them.    "i’ll  even  throw  in  a  milkshake.  oreo  or  banana?"

slender hands come up to tie her brown hair into a haphazard ponytail. "i've got three quarters of a lung, you see. that is to say, i mean---i've got two lungs in my body, sure, but only one of those is working at full capacity. the other one has one third of dead alveolus."

a nod and then: "i doubt i'd be making it through a round of sparring without dropping, anyway. i like basketball, though. and rollerblading! and i walk whenever i can. i think, for now, that's enough. no karate required to keep me healthy."

another thought comes to her, then, unbidden. "besides, if i were to join, i wouldn't have time for tortoises and turtles. i'm currently saving up for the big turtle encyclopedia, actually, and---"

"not in here, sir. just out there." she nods but doesn't elaborate. it's a long story. "by the way, could i trouble you for some mozzarella sticks and spicy sweet-sour sauce? i was actually going to spend my remaining allowance on the big turtle encyclopedia but this seems like a worthwhile investment too." if only because she's hungry and, well, the longer she stays in here, the less she has to deal with the retooled version of alpha elite and everything that it entails.

"    …    that’s  a  new  one."    it  isn’t  the  weirdest  response  he’s  ever  gotten  from  a  customer.  hell,  it  ain’t  even  the  weirdest  one  he’s  heard  today.  if  there’s  one  thing  he’s  learnt  from  working  in  hospitality,  it’s  that  there’s  never  a  dull  moment,  especially  not  here  in  the  valley.  it  is,  however,  a  little  concerning.  denny  knows  how  rowdy  the  older  kids  can  get  and  the  last  thing  he  wants  is  trouble.  eyes  quickly  scan  the  area,  as  if  searching  for  any  hints  before  he  ducks  his  head  a  little  lower,  tries  to  make  sure  she’s  alright.  he  at  least  tries  to  keep  it  inconspicuous  as  requested;    hushes  his  voice,  shrinks  himself  down  to  a  smaller  height  by  bending  knees  just  slight.    "and,  uh,  who  exactly  are  we  hiding  from?    ⸻    someone  in  here  giving  you  a  hard  time?"

INTRODUCING: the alpha elite next gen!

darian (n.oah l.alonde) is the firstborn son of elizabeth-anne rooney and morgan mills, estranged older brother of a.li. a player, rough around the edges and sharp tongued he may be, he still does take the responsibility of being the eldest extremely seriously. he considers himself the group's older brother, which makes it his responsibility to protect all of them. he keeps an eye on lia, especially, because of her lung condition and exclusively calls her 'cuddlebug' because he knows it annoys her. aside from this, he's up for the alpha elite rebrand, so long as it's done right; he's got some anger issues to work out, after all. darian also has his eyes on k.enny and a.nthony, not because he dislikes them, per se, but because he knows what boys are like at that age and, frankly, at any age.

sebastian or bash as everyone calls him (a.shby g.entry) may seem bashful and soft hearted and not at all suited to the teachings of alpha elite but once he's in the zone, it's like a switch flips. he's thrown himself into the redux of alpha elite to hide that he's still hung up on his ex girlfriend.

logan (c.onnor s.tanhope) is darian's fraternal twin. he got into this mess to begin with because he wanted to learn a few moves to impress a pretty girl. now he's in too deep without a way out and even if he had one: how could he turn his back on alpha elite and walk away without his family? logan is also the one who makes sure that cousins a.va and l.ucas are looped in on the latest drama. and speaking of which: he is also part of the theatre department / drama club at school. which makes him one of lia's favorites as she, too, is a theatre kid.

colin (c.orey f.ogelmanis) and eugene (j.ace c.hapman) are the sons of charlie alexopoulos and his ex. charlie's got full custody of both of them. his boys are his everything and it is for them and because of them that he has mostly cleaned up his act nowadays. charlie became an actor after school and is now starring as a zombie-esque skeleton person in a tv show about the apocalypse (and, somehow, this gets him more attention from the ladies than he got during his alpha elite days).

colin is the eldest of the two and is currently coming to terms with his sexuality. he said yes to being taught the revised edition of alpha elite because he wants to work on his confidence.

eugene, or genie, is the youngest of the two and suffers from debilitating (social) anxiety to the point where he needs an emotional support dog. even so, he's trying alpha elite stuff step by baby step, if only because cousin d.emetri is trying that karate stuff too! he knows he's got nothing to prove, though. (except that's a lie: he's got everything to prove!) also, some of the other kids at school call him 'genius'. it's not a compliment, even though he is quite smart.

tomas (i.saac a.rellanes) is the firstborn son of gabe and his wife. tomas idolizes darian but would go to his grave denying it. he's a massive flirt and has currently set his eyes on nadine mcqueen.

nimuel (m.yles v.incent p.erez) is gabe's second born son who just wants to skate, damn it. he doesn't really give a shit about the karate war and all the adjacent things. talented but obnoxious, the only reason why he said yes to alpha elite is because everyone else is doing it and because lia's there too. that's his future wife, y'all.

then there is aracely (s.iena a.gudong), gabe's only daughter and, quite frankly, his favorite. aracely has taken to the teachings of alpha elite like a fish to water, which is worrying, but she's got a good head on her shoulders. she'll be fine, right? right... exactly! so is it any wonder, then, that she's trying to get lia into it some more, too? she's only being a good friend.

has her likeness used without her knowledge or consent to catfish someone else.

graduated middle school.

went on a fieldtrip to west valley high.

dad (ned) has a new girlfriend, tiffany.

mami (cori) & mom (barbara) are fighting more often due to work stress (they're both doctors) and familial stress (colonel p.aul d.ugan reaching out to his estranged daughter and granddaughter, specifically, and arguing with his daughter-in-law) as well as karate stress, leaving lia to be the therapist / peace-maker.

s5:

lia & her moms go on vacation because all of them need to get out of the valley.

dad proposes to tiffany, who says yes.

grandpa (paul) is actively making plans to move back to the valley "to be closer to his family".

s6, pt 1:

officially a freshman in high school.

the impending ned/tiffany wedding has lia shrink in on herself a lot; she's quieter, more subdued, less vicacious. less herself.

by the time her moms notice this, grandpa & granddaughter bonding time has already commenced. paul puts his granddaughter through a.lpha e.lite exercises, especially a modified version of the bullring, and says it's to take lia's mind off of the wedding rather than to test her potential and "train" the weaknesses out of her because he's thinking about restarting and rebranding a.lpha e.lite.

(the above also goes for the children of c.harlie, g.abe and m.organ.)

lia runs from the venue halfway through the wedding ceremony. collapses outside due to a really bad flare up. ends up in the hospital for a bit.

s6, pt 2:

once she's discharged, lia watches the s.ekai t.aikai at the l.arusso's until the feed gets cut. doesn't care to watch the rest, afterwards, as she is haunted by what she has seen on screen.
