This is fucking hilarious to me for two reasons because 1) it's work it's a professional setting of course you're walking on eggshells and censoring yourself and 2) white men aren't special for not getting to say what they want to say at work like do you know many times I've wanted to lock eyes with someone at work and tell them they're a waste of precious grant money that could go to much more deserving researchers who actually listen to my instructions and don't dick around and waste tons of mice or human samples because they're too incompetent to realize they're fucking stupid and wasting everyone's valuable time and they're more of a hindrance in their research lab than they are a help and everyone would be much better off if they finally quit and found a job in a completely different industry? A lot. I've wanted to say that a lot. But I dont, because I'm at work, and we don't say that at work :)

Had the worst fucking English bulldog anesthetic patient today.

He's 60 pounds. His tail is literally inverted and is horrifically infected. He turned purple instantly with the propofol and took me about 4 minutes to intubate him. I was using a too-large tube to partly pry his vocal folds apart to keep him breathing. Ended up using a size 7 tube to intubate. His fucking cuneiform processes were twice as long as usual and were flopping over the opening to his trachea on top of the elongated soft palate and epiglottis.

AND THEN.

AND THEN THIS FUCKING TRAIN WRECK OF A DOG.

15 minutes after he's etubated and up he makes a weird noise and we look over and he's trying to vomit, with trying being the operative word. I pulled him half out the cage to get his head lowered and he starts turning fucking purple again.

One "BREATHE you fucking BASTARD" and several strong whacks to his side and he coughs out a fist-sized wad of brown tinged mucus.

It's been about 2 hours now, we have a fan on him and I've never felt so paranoid about a fucking patient before.

One of the funniest things about Mormonism is that I’m sure Joseph Smith never believed any of the bullshit he said. There are some religions and cults where you have faith the original prophet actually thought they were talking to angels or believed the set of principles they laid out for their followers were for the greater good. Joseph Smith was a dumbass but like PT Barnum he realized a sucker was born every day and he was one step above the average 1830s sucker. He went from making people pay him to look at a rock in a top hat and ‘locate buried treasure’ to receiving lost bits of scripture, through the rock and top hat method. His wife caught him cheating and he said an angel visited him and told him men should be allowed multiple wives and not obeying that would send her to hell. I’m fairly convinced that dude was an atheist. He was on that hustler grindset. Brigham Young might have actually believed some of the shit he said but I don’t think Joseph Smith genuinely had faith in Mormonism or gave a fuck about humanity in the slightest.

I always liked the anime illustrations in the original NES Zelda manual, and it saddened me to find out these weren’t actually part of a real animated promotion for the game. So I decided to take those illustrations and re-create them as if they were!

I feel like the reason certain dog-lovers insist cats are evil is because they read their body language as if they were dogs. So here’s a very basic guide to common “mean” things cats do that actually aren’t mean at all if you know what they’re thinking.

Rolling and exposing belly- attacks you when touched Does not mean: Give belly rubs! - haha I tricked you!  Actually means: I’m playful! If you reach for my belly I’ll grab your arm and bite it because I think we’re playfighting! 

Lazily exposing belly - still attacks when touched Does not mean: tricked you again! Actually means: I’m showing you my belly because I trust you. Please don’t break that trust by invading my personal space. I might accept a belly rub if I’m not ticklish and I know you well. Snapping at you while being pet Does not mean: I suddenly decided I dislike you! Actually means: You’re petting me in a way that gives me too much restless energy. Please focus on petting my head and shoulders instead of stroking the full length of my back next time.

Is in the same room but makes no attempt to interact Does not mean:  I’m ignoring you Actually means: We’re hanging out! I’m being respectful by giving you space while still enjoying your company. I get way too attached to my little Nichelings <3 And seconding Seri's series, she does a lot of great things if you like animals and biology in general.

Also if you do pick it up? Beware rogue males with awful genetics. They can be RUTHLESS if you don't keep an eye on your fertile females. Sneaky jerks. :/

Do you enjoy clangen? Are you autistic about genetics, evolution, and adaptations?

Do you also maybe want to start one of those clangen blogs or comics, or something like them?

Then I have the game for you! That’s right, baby. This is a Niche: a genetics survival game recruitment post.

I have been DEEPLY autistic about this game for years, so now you have to be too. I have over 200 hours in it.

It’s almost like a hybrid of spore and clangen- you breed and evolve your group of creatures (nichelings), explore different environments and adaptations, endure different kinds of weather, gather or hunt for food, and fend off predators.

It has both more and less control than clangen does, especially if you want to write a story based off of your playthrough.

It has more control over your individual creatures actions, relationships, genetics, appearance and breeding.

It has less control over your environment, predators and weather, but that depends on how much you mess with the sandbox settings.

There’s also a ‘mutation menu’ so you can make a specific creature’s offspring more likely to mutate certain genetic traits. You can start with all of them unlocked, or progressively unlock them as you go along.

(And there’s a huge family tree as well, to keep track of your creatures relations.)

The sandbox settings give you control over:

-What does or doesn’t spawn, from predators and other animals, to rocks and grass

-damage and healing multipliers

-the genes and appearance of the creatures you start with. Hand-pick every one, or have them as many as you like set to random!

-the island you start on, from grasslands, to swamps, savannas, mountains and archipelagos, to a little bit of everything, or even on the back of a giant whale!

-how many days your creatures different life stages last, for how long they’re helpless babies, teens, or adults. You can make your creatures live for just a few days, or hundreds.

-you can set ‘win conditions’ for challenges,

-and turn on a blind gene mode where you cannot see individual creatures genetics.

-a tribe size limit, so you can only have so many creatures

-and how much food and nesting material you start with as well!

The creatures are mostly dog-like, but there are cat features you can exclusively/mostly use as well. (Which is called ‘purr snout’, and when a creature purrs, any other creatures directly next to them will heal from any damage they have over the next few days. It’s fucking awesome)

Or, you can just creatively interpret their in-game designs however you like!

They have a lot of varying features- here’s some of my favorite nichelings from my own games.

The game has its own randomly-assigned names, but you can change them at any time. 

(And you can also change the color of the gems on their chest as well, which represent how many ‘moves’ each creature has left.)

You control every one of your nichelings, so you can creatively interpret and create their personalities and relationships as much as you like, but random things still happen throughout the world as well.

There’s also a main ‘story mode’ aside from the sandbox, which is pretty fun too. (And also acts as a comprehensive tutorial.)

The game is 18 dollars on steam, but it’s been around for awhile, so it probably goes on sale often enough? I have no idea. I could run it without issues on my shitty old laptop, even in the poor thing’s final years, so you don’t need a really good computer to play it.

If you want to watch someone play it first, I highly recommend ’Seri! Pixel biologist!’. She has done a BUNCH of different playthoughts and challenges, from when the game was in super early access all the way up until its full release, and afterwards. 

She also loves warrior cats, and builds a lot of story into her games. Here’s the playlist for her story mode play-through!

there’s absolutely something to be said about ‘booktok’ books being largely wattpad quality written erotica i’m certainly not reading them however having seen a guy on tiktok make a video like ‘all the women in your life are READING PORN’ about a book he picked up and read in his FEMALE FRIEND’S HOUSE in a tone of scandalised horror and disgust i actually don’t think men should be making those criticisms. he said he picked it up expecting a romance and was horrified it was GOONER SHIT he said specifically like ‘who are you getting your pussy wet FOR??’ in a tone of revulsion. idk man im not sure shes the weird one. i kind of wish you were dead
