It's Drawing Day today so I'm excited to drop my sketch for this week (for my new body of work, consisting in weekly sketches that I post to my online Artist Studio): some delicate, beautiful, light pink flowers I randomly spotted in London (UK) and just had to quickly sketch! 🌺💮🌸💖 Constantly sketching what I see around me is a big part of my artistic process and drawing supports all my art projects, no matter what medium the final works are in, which is why I'm celebrating drawing today: Happy Drawing Day!
Materials: felt tip on drawing paper (A5 carry around sketchbook)

I'm excited to drop my latest artwork (a pencil study in my sketchbook) drawn✏️ for a combination of 4 days: so it's created in advance of International Artist Day (next Tuesday, 25th October) which falls on Picasso's birthday (who inspired this Face2Face series); conceptualised and made during Genderfluid Visibility Week (17th-24th) and shortly after International Pronouns Day (19th). Title: 'Face2Face (Non-binary Genderfluid) Lesbians', subtitle: 'Hosting a Genderfluid Salon Together: Echoes of the Past'. The character bottom right is based on Picasso in his signature Breton top and beret. The pink & blue emphasises his Pink and Blue periods, which is why my (original design) Face2Face lesbians are in those 2 colours. The border is rose/pink to refer to this pink period, as are the rose pink armchairs. There are two characters that are based on Gertrude Stein and the character bottom left echoes Alice Toklas, her partner. These Jewish, gender non-conforming lesbians held salons for creatives, attended by Picasso. He was great friends with several genderfluid and gay creatives, including Anton Prinner (drawn on Picasso's top here) who was born a woman but lived and dressed as an androgynous male, describing himself as an homosexual male, using male pronouns. He self-identifed as Anton and nobody blinked an eyelid (including Picasso), calling him by his preferred name and pronouns. #internationalartistday #internationalartistday2022 #picasso #picassobirthday #picassoart #picassopinkperiod #picassoblueperiod #originalart #originalartwork #libakauckyartist #genderfluid #genderfluidweek #genderfluidart #lgbtart #lgbtartist #internationalpronounsday #internationalpronounsday2022 #gertrudestein #alicetoklas #antonprinner #androgynous #gendernonconforming #sketchbook #drawing #colouredpencilart #streetart #surrealism #cubism https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj-XdP-NnKS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Dropping the next in my series, titled 'Face2Face (Non-binary Genderfluid) Lesbians'. This artwork is subtitled 'We stand on the Shoulders....' and was created for #internationallesbianday . 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩💕🏳️‍🌈💞👩‍❤️‍👩 I've continued the style of drawing the historical element as a pencil sketch here, so I've drawn the past lesbians with a 5B artist's pencil (rather as I did when drawing in the style of Picasso's pencil sketches in my 'Dipping the Apple Together' . The conceptual idea behind this is showing how lesbians have always existed throughout all eras, ranging from Sappho in Ancient times to the Ladies of Langollen and Anne Lister in the 19th century to the 20th century and beyond. There is no one way to dress or look as a lesbian and we exist across all cultures and ethnicities around the world. The book spines are coloured in the sequence of the inclusive lesbian flag. 🧡🧡🧡🤍♥️💜💜 Materials: 5B pencil; Windsor and Newton marker Street art pens; white Posca pen; artist's coloured pencils on cardboard #lesbianart #lesbianartist #libakauckyartist #artistoninstagram #artistsofinstagram #lesbianlove #loveislove #lesbianday #lesbianrelationship #lesbianmarriage #lesbians #lesbianpositivity #lesbianvisibility #streetart #cardboardstreetart #cardboardstreetartist https://www.instagram.com/p/CjeNS-FDWLi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Dropping the next in my series 'Face2Face (Non-binary Gender fluid) Lesbians', this one is subtitled: 'Dipping the Apple Together' 🍎🍏🍯 I've drawn the apples in the style of Picasso's still lifes of apples and fruit. His approach was to create a sense of the apples looking as though they are prismatic, sculptural forms which are both sharply defined and heavily shaded while retaining a classical composition with long, dark shadows. The inspiration for my drawing technique used for my bowl of apples here came from Picasso's 1908 'Fruit Bowl with Pears and Apples', although mine is an original still life drawing, not an 'after'. My other apples in this artwork retain his prismatic, geometric style. Materials: cardboard collage on wrapping paper, drawn with Windsor and Newton Street Art pens and artist's coloured pencils. #picasso #stilllife #streetart #cardboardart #cardboardstreetart #libakauckyartist #britishartist #canadianartist #cardboardstreetartist #lgbtartist #lgbtart #lesbianart #originalart #handmadeart #collageart #colouredpencilart #markerpenart #fruitart https://www.instagram.com/p/Ci_dXaSKOQ7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Title: 'Face2Face (Genderfluid Non-binary) Lesbians: In Our Study: 2 Hearts 1 Canvas' 💞🎨🖼️🖌️🏳️‍🌈 Happy International Artist Day 2021! (25th October) To celebrate this day, this artwork in my Face2Face series is about drawing and painting together and you can see the finished oil painting they have produced on canvas in front of them. I've added a collage technique for this artwork: the canvas is oil paint on cut out canvas paper; the palette is cut out palette paper that I used as a palette when painting the miniature still life, hence you can see the oil brush marks I made; the sketchbook is a sketch with pastel pencils and gel pens on cut out cartridge paper.
The 'Women Artists: An Illustrated History' book on their table is one I have in my library. It's there not only as a reference book during their artistic process but also to highlight women artists on this International Artist Day. If you read the book, you see that women artists were sometimes more successful (and sometimes paid more than their successful male counterparts) in the 16th and 17th century than they are today. Something is very wrong!

Impermanent? is a series exploring the idea of temporary art. Here I’ve ‘sculpted’ an object out of temporary material, in this case, crusty bread in the shape of an armchair. Although the original sculpture has gone mouldy and been discarded so it no longer exists as an object in the world/as an installation work, nevertheless, my digital photos of it (with computer effects) still exist as permanent artworks. Hence the question mark. Is the artwork temporary art or permanent art or both?

Third in my series on migration. This one focuses on migration as a result of political oppression / persecution. Here I’ve used the concept of accidental art to depict the idea that political migration is not planned migration but happens sort of ‘accidentally’ through political crises. These accidental marks (made by a fork in a tea-stained cup) give a scraffito effect to express the desperate plight of political refugees. As an artwork, it is both accidental and non-accidental art because I have intentionally chosen which marks and added computer effects to create non-accidental, conceptual art.

#czech100 Here's one of my photos of Prague to celebrate the centenary of the founding of Czechoslovakia. I love lots of things about the country from the music, the architecture, the food, the language to the beautiful scenery. https://www.instagram.com/p/BpfgeMGBhQE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=13g4mtddszid5

‘Silencing 1’ (2017, acrylic paint and Indian Ink on canvas). This is the first painting in a series I am working on which is about the injustice of silencing. ‘Silencing 2 - Shout 1918 / 2018’ (2018, acrylic paint and Indian Ink on canvas). This second painting in this series is commemorating the centenary of some women gaining the right to vote and stand as MPs, thanks to the Suffragettes and Suffragists tirelessly campaigning for women’s right to have a political voice.
