Liberated
197 posts
Liberated is about exploration and expression, and attaining your own subjective freedom. Taking your board and exploring the world around you, a break away from a stagnant, routine life. Expressing new perspectives found on travels and feelings that are surreal and exhilarating. It’s a company that is not fixated on a particular sub-culture, it is a company that stands for freedom in board riding and exploring new places and expression through art, music and photography.

If you were at One Night In Cape Town, you would surely remember this. Rou riding the monitor, surfer style, and he is also trying to close the curtains of the stage. This is just a reminder what a memorable night the night of the 9th of Augustus 2012 was. Enjoy. ▲

Any skateboarding trip is exciting. The prospect of searching for spots in small towns and camping at different locations is golden. Skateboarding let you experience a town on ground level, it is quite enlightening, rather than driving through the towns to your end destination.
Our trip consisted out of a crew of two skateboarders (Jacques Fourie & Krige Venter), a guy behind the camera and friends joining in for the party at Langebaan. The trip took place this year in the middle of summer, something I miss.  We covered quite a lot of ground in three days, exploring the streets of Malmesbury, Langebaan, Veldrif, Potterville and Piketberg.
The trip had a lot of unplanned excitement. Our car almost rolled on the dirt road to Porterville and a baboon infestation at night at 22 Watervalle camping terrain near Potterville. 22 Watervalle was definitely the highlight of the trip for me, hiking in the valley and escaping the heat in the cooling pools and waterfalls.
The most skateboarding took place on the first day and on our third day it was basically impossible to skate, because the temperature was 47 degrees! We couldn’t skate Piketberg, because of the extreme heat, but the place has many potential spots.
Take your board, travel and enjoy South Africa nature; even if it’s only for the weekend.

Wild Eastern Arches have rolled into town and have left me feeling like I'm ready for a showdown in a saloon somewhere in the Old West filled with cigarette smoke and gun bearing whiskey drinkers. I got the opportunity to first hear them live at Mark Reitz' photo exhibition at The Waiting Room and then again at A Tribute to The Rolling Stones at Mercury and needless to say I was impressed.
For those of you that haven't heard them, they're an experimental mix of psychedelic and rock 'n roll and they are definitely worth seeing live if you enjoy the likes of The Doors, The Dead Weather and Led Zeppelin but I wouldn't limit them to just that.
So do yourselves a favour, check them out, and you may just find yourself feeling akin to the Old West too. ▲

Roger "Secondhand stoke" part 1:
This is what I'm talking about.  Good edit, creative, good sense of style and pure skateboarding.
Max Taylor gets arrested, throws hammers down like nothing and his pole jam wallie (2:50) is just beautiful. Ryan Holloway excited me with his tricks. He is the reason why I had to "rewind" this clip about 500 times.  Good clip, good skateboarding.  ▲

Honestly, I don't know where to start. This is for all the people who went to "One night in Cape Town" last night and the people at The Oppikoppi festival.
Last night I have truly seen the best live performance in my life. Enter Shikari shut Grand West arena down. From Rou (lead singer) riding monitors, like a skateboard, off stage to people building human pyramids in the crowd. One big energetic party.  After their set I was fortunate enough to meet them, very mellowed out guys who was just as pumped as the fans to have a good time. Check out this video to get a feeling what went down last night and what is coming to Oppikoppi. (Video: Enter Shikari - Sssnakepit) Don't get me wrong, the other bands were great, Eagles of Death Metal played a solid rock and roll set! There was underwear flying everywhere. Seether isn't really my cup of tea, but you can check them out on general channels like Mtv etc. Bullet pleased all the metal kids.  In the end, everyone got something they wanted to hear and a lesson I think most people learned is: buy Golden Circle tickets if you really want to have a "better" time.  It has been one hell of a party and experience. ▲

Classic Review: Iggy and the Stooges – Raw Power
“There's nothing in my dreams  Just some ugly memories  Kiss me like the ocean breeze”
Literature, music and art are usually constrained to certain rules and can be predictive in an era. For example Poetry/lyrics that are written in order of a particular, thematic custom. Any form of expressionism tries to stay in the boundaries set by institutionalized notions. The complexity of the human psyche and unconscious desires contradict these conventions and constraints. An art form that provoke certain suppressed ideas or desires give new meaning to how we view ourselves and see the world.
Raw Power is like a confused, angry teenager that hated the constraints that is placed on him; with Raw Power it was, taboos of recording and the type of music. Like a teenager that reinvented himself against the establishment, Iggy did the same with the album Raw Power. He wanted to produce the album as raw as possible, to amplify the aggression and alienation he expresses on the album. There is a dark under tone that runs through the lines of the album and a type of energy that hasn’t been experienced at that time in music, something more tangible and real.
The stand out track on the album for me is Gimme danger. It takes you through a story of love, misery, anger sang to a rhythm that seems distant to the vocal and the song dynamically changes between torment and sentiment.
Download Raw Power and appreciate one of main albums that started the Punk movement. ▲
