This quote is accurate and relatable. I know that many people use the library as a place of refuge, be it for a safe and warm place to spend time in the winter or a cool and comfortable place to be in the summer... a quiet and comfortable place to study, a place where you can access the internet or listen to music, even just sit and read a book and feel relaxed. I personally always feel comfortable and at ease mentally when I am at the library, and I know that there are probably many other people who feel the same way. Reading books or listening to music, looking at art in books, whatever - they're all good ways to calm down and relax your mind. Many people don't take the time out of their day, week, month, or year to just sit down and take some time for themselves, and the library is a great place to do that.

I think this list is super awesome! (click through the image to the webpage with an article and enlarged version of the flowchart) If I were working in the teen section at a public library or in a high-school library, I would definitely have this up on the wall or create something similar on my own. I love this because there are so many different genres covered and all of the books are current, so teen or youth readers would have fun with them and be stimulated by them. I would have to update the list as time went on but it is such an awesome amazing idea that it doesn't even matter! Being able to use a chart like this to select new and cool YA books for yourself or your friends would be the coolest thing at the library.

This is super neat! I am really interested in vintage magazines and illustrations and the like, so this definitely caught my eye. Having a sense of humor when it comes to the profession is good, too! And I think that most Librarians/Library Techs can relate to these...

I think that it really is surprising that people think that their local public libraries are as crucial as they really are, surprisingly great! But it really is a problem that people aren't using libraries. Part of keeping libraries open is people using them and keeping statistics up. I wish that people would show their support of libraries by going in and using the resources available to them rather than just talking about it.

A new Pew survey has found that Americans overwhelmingly support public libraries.
It found that 90 percent of those surveyed think “the closing of their local public library would have an impact on their community” and a whopping 95 percent “agree that the materials and resources available at public libraries play an important role in giving everyone a chance to succeed.”
Despite wide agreement that public libraries are important, significantly fewer Americans (54 percent) said they have used one in the past year. And Pew didn’t ask what might be the most crucial question: Would Americans be willing to pay higher taxes to keep their public libraries open?

This is another super neat way to advertise your library to people who may not know about it or initially be interested in it. I think in today's world of technology and social media, it is true that some people forget about libraries, but they are still so vital! I get so excited when i see neat videos like this because it is a great way to get the attention of the younger generation and the technologically savvy. This is a great way to get a glimpse into a library that you may not ever see by any other means. I would definitely be interested in viewing more of these. the 90 second time frame is perfect for showing as much as is possible but also keeping people's attention. SO so so awesome!

Agh! This is so neat and innovative. So much of the time I find people trying to shy away from or push away the homeless, but for many homeless people the library becomes a safe haven where they don't have to be bothered as much as in the street and can relax indoors and read or listen to music, etc. This is a great way to support and help the local homeless community and also create awareness that could potentially help raise money or start a shelter.

Libraries on the Vine
Libraries are using Vine to create clips that highlight new book and media acquisitions, advertise events, showcase makerspaces and 3D printers, and instruct patrons on library features. The moving images give these promotions a vibrancy that’s not feasible in text-heavy social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Wow! this is super amazing and a great way to use social media as a way to interact with patrons and get your library out there. Vine is a really really popular social media website right now and I can see people somehow stumbling upon some of these Library Vines and just thinking "so neat!" and liking or re-Vining them. Then more and more people see it and that might make them want to go to their library and check out some of the awesome things available to them there. It may not seem like a big deal to most people but its a super big step in current (FREE!) advertising for libraries!
