Howell

"Why am I still here," Nikki groaned, annoyed. Her eyes were wandering the library she had been sitting on for the last four hours. Her legs were hurting and her neck desperately needed a good stretch. And from the growling of her stomach she guessed some pasta or at least a sandwich wouldn't hurt as well. Still, she was stuck sitting there, listening to some colleagues of her father talking about security issues and how to make the museum next door save enough for some high ranking politicians to enter. Her father, a long-time friend of the president, who worked as a diplomat in different countries, had made himself clear that Nikki had to stay in the library until everything was clarified. But he never said that she had to listen, did he? Due to not being deemed important enough, Nikki was sitting alone in the last row of chairs and a bookshelf was sitting not too far away. She could make it without being seen and then get lost in the library, maybe finding something interesting to read along the way. Or at the least walk some. In her mind, that sounded like a rather good plan. And before long she found herself wandering the antique halls of the British library they were in. It was quiet except for the voice of the security man. But the father, Nikki, walked the less she could hear him. Now and then, taking a book off of the shelf to look at it, nothing was quite catching her attention. That, at least, was until she took a turn and found a strange man sitting on the floor, book in hand. For a short time she wasn't moving. There wasn't supposed to be anyone here except for them, was there? "What the hell are you doing here? And who are you?," she asked, careful not to raise her voice, which was still way too loud for a quiet place like this.
