Maglor

⌔ Synopsis: Maglor Fëanorion, before and after the Oath. ⌔ Warnings: Angst ⌔ Double drabble

Makalaurë, for as long as he could remember, had been an artist, a singer, a musician, an actor. His harp was his trusted companion and his voice charmed even the Ainur, whose roles he would sometimes play in Ilmarin's theatre. 

A smith like his father or a sculptor like his mother Makalaurë had never been, but it mattered not. He had his own passion, his own art, his own destiny. 

It was hard to stand out as a son of Fëanáro, the mighty and renowned crown prince of the Noldor, as one of seven children; but Makalaurë had done it. 

⌔

Maglor has long since become a warrior, fighting in eternal service of his father's Oath. One of seven kinslayers, one of seven doomed princes, pitied and loathed. 

His sword remains by his side always, bloodstained and ready to be drawn at any moment. His harp he carries still, stubbornly hidden underneath his cloak, but he sings little, for his voice is hoarse from battle cries.

One by one his brothers fall, until at last even Maedhros abandons him. 

Maglor contemplates joining the jewel in the sea, but does not. 

Thus he becomes once more renowned — as a lonely, grieving minstrel.

aragorn's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week:

the fellowship breaks on his watch

forced to choose who to follow

runs over 200 kilometers in under four days

thinks merry and pippin are dead

meets the reborn gandalf (a rare win), immediately has to do a 180 and ride to edoras

immediately after that needs to ride to battle

takes part in a battle which takes place over the whole night

gets maybe 20 hours of sleep over the course of the whole week

and, I cannot stress this enough, this is all still very far from over

SILMARILLION HEADCANON

So, I had this headcanon in mind since a while.

We know that after the War of Wrath and the drowning of Beleriand in 587 F.A., there nothing left of Beleriand excepted Tol-Fuin (what is left of the mounys in the south-west of Dorthonion), now know as Tol-Fuin, and Himring, now known as Tol-Himring (south Lothlann in the march of Maedhros). The two becoming islands next to each other o, the Belegaer Ocean.

What if Maedhros were still alive and still living in Himring?

At the end of the War of Wrath when Eonwë had retrieved the Silmarils, Maedhros, forced by the oath, try to take them back. However, with all the massacres and other horrors he took part in, he has become, like Melkor, unworthy of the jewels that burn deeply his remaining hand the moment he takes them. But instead of throwing himself with one of the Silmarils in the depths of the earth, he just throw the jewel in. For his part, Maglor, who was with him all along did likewise but in the Ocean, burning his hand in the process, like his brother.

After that, Maedhros exiled himself away from the elven kind and his family, unable to returning in Aman (the oath isn’t sulfilled so he can’t go back home, and he can’t confront thse whose lives he has ruined with his family). Unwiling to live among the elves in Middle Earth and other intelligent creatures, he went in exile in Himring, his fortress, renamed Tol-Himring. Far from others.

I like the idea of Maedhros living completely alone on his island with some animals as the only company he accept, slowly fading away but refusing to die (he doesn’t deserve this luxury in his mind).

If you’re new here, TRSB  is a Tolkien-fandom-wide event celebrating the talent of our fanwork creators. Participating artists create a piece of art to be claimed by a signed up author. Authors will then write a 5k word fic based on the art they chose.

As well as signing up as an author and/or artist, you can sign up as a beta, cheerleader, pinch hitter, or treat maker.

Explanations of what all of these mean can be found in the relevant section of our FAQ.  Sign-ups for these roles will remain open for the duration of the event and will get you access to the gallery. However, you must be signed up as an author to claim.

The event is open to all characters, genres and ratings, and all canons that fall under the Tolkien fandom umbrella. This includes movieverse (i.e. the LOTR and Hobbit trilogies), lesser known works by Tolkien (such as The Father Christmas Letters), and/or other works with a clear link to his life or creative output (for example, Tolkien's translations and academic texts, the 2019 Tolkien biopic, fan-made films like Born of Hope, and game canons such as The Lord of the Rings Online). Crossovers between two or more Tolkien canons are permitted.
