Hi! I’m a 22yo betta fish owner of Sir Neptune Cornelius, who wanted to document my adventures and maybe even learn some things! Happy to be here!

MY SON, HE IS THRIVING!
Okay, so, I haven't posted about it at all because it was depressing me, but full disclosure: the past few weeks, I've been fairly convinced that I was soon going to be burying Vox Jr. He's been super lethargic recently - just laying listlessly in the plants and occasionally at the front of the tank, moving only very rarely to try to eat but more often just not showing his face at all to the point where I rustled him out with tongs a couple of times to make sure he wasn't actually dead.
I started him on Fluval Bug Bites betta formula like a month or two ago now because as an alien betta he's a bit smaller than average and I thought the small pellets would be easier for him to fit in his mouth. Which, they were! But (and while the suspicion sat in the back of my mind, it took me a while to realize and act on it) ever since I made that change he started getting more lethargic and I could not figure out why, as he was not emaciated or deformed, had no fin issues, and had no lesions. I finally swapped him back to his old Omega One pellets a couple of days ago and literally over the past two days it's like he's transformed into a new fish!
I don't know if it's because the bug bites are insect-based and the Omega One pellets are seafood-based (bettas are naturally insectivores?!) or maybe he wasn't getting enough of the bug bites and I wasn't noticing, or something else, but holy fuck I'm so glad my fish doesn't seem to be dying anymore on account of me apparently having been accidentally poisoning him.
I couldn't get a better photo of him... because he was MOVING TOO MUCH. :)))))))
(Seriously, he's been still as death and unseen for multiple days at a time for weeks now, this is a WILD change. He's begging for food when he sees me now! I'm so stoked.)

Here’s my little guy!
Tumblr media
His name is Neptune Cornelius, and he’s a veil tail betta fish. I acquired him from a friend who needed someone to take him off her hands. His fins are a little damaged, and I’m gonna try to figure that out so they can get better, but other than that he appears to be in relatively good shape. I’ve been doing tons of research on betta care and am excited to implement what I’ve learned and continue learning from others. Here’s to new betta adventures!
I am also documenting over in Instagram as well. I’m not sure which I’ll use most yet, so I’m including the link!
