Lore, 30 something, Belgium. (she/her) - Just a small town girl. She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous. Music was her first love. Current obsessions: Måneskin. (and maybe a bit of Tom Hiddleston and the MCU...)
There used to be this really nice small venue close to where I live that closed two years ago unfortunately. I was super happy when the news broke that it was reopening and none other than Miles Kane would be playing the first gig. Needless to say I was very excited when Thursday rolled around.
And boy, he did not disappoint. This guy deserves so much more recognition! I felt really bad for him when he was about two thirds into his first song and everything just… stopped. Technical difficulties are shit, but they got it fixed and he was on fire for round two. I had so much fun and I was so impressed by the solo man concept and how well he does it.
We laughed, we danced, we got emotional (dealer hits with Lana too). We sang our hearts out and I hope he enjoyed it as much as I did. Certainly looked like it. Once more for the people in the back: life is music.
The thing about traveling to landlocked countries is that a significant part of their culture is unknown to the rest of the world. I have never been in such a situation where I had to post something inappropriate but the fact is that I’m more worried about what you will infer from this post especially because I know how devoutly religious the people of Bhutan are.
The “Divine Madman” or Lama Drukpa Kunley was a heretic- he shunned orthodox beliefs with his ways, his lifestyle and his “Phallus”. He was a champion advocate of an audacious life of free love, wine and women as the way to wisdom.
Drukpa Kunley’s intention was to shock the clergy, who were uppity and prudish in their behaviour and teachings of Buddhism. However, his ways appealed to lay practitioners. It was he who propagated the legend of painting phalluses on walls and flying hanging phalluses from roof tops of houses to drive away evil spirits and subdue demonesses. He is, therefore, also called the “fertility saint”, as the monastery he built, Chimi Lhakhang.
Kunley’s organ, as painted, is called the “Thunderbolt of Flaming Wisdom” as it unnerved demons and demonesses and subdued them. It is also said that he is “perhaps the only saint in the religions of the world who is almost exclusively identified with phallus and its creative power”. It is for this reason that his phallus, as a symbol, is depicted in paintings on the walls of the houses, and he is shown in thangka paintings holding a “wooden stick with a penis head”.
the problem with musicians is how they're always touring their latest album instead of like their critically hated second album from 2009 which is the one i'm obsessed with
