A volte l'arte è così reale che fa paura.

Bernini, Michelangelo, Canova. Marco d'Agrate (forse meno conosciuto rispetto a quelli citati sopra), è stato uno scultore lombardo che,intorno al 1562, realizzò il famoso “San Bartolomeo scorticato”, oggi conservato all'interno del Duomo di Milano.

Si tratta di una statua in marmo che rappresenta uno dei dodici apostoli, Bartolomeo appunto, che secondo la tradizione fu scuoiato della pelle per volere del re dei Medi in Siria.

Ed è così che San Bartolomeo viene rappresentato da Marco d'Agrate.

La fascia che lo avvolge in realtà è la sua pelle, mentre il resto del corpo è scolpito nei minimi dettagli anatomici: vene, muscoli, ossa.
