I'm not a particularly light packer but I'm not excessive either like I don't have a problem with a carry on size suitcase for most trips but I do prefer to check it because it gets pretty full and I don't like dealing with the liquid rule etc. but I don't bring a hair dryer or multiple purses or whatever. one thing though is that I find it very hard not to take a bathrobe with me and I will do this even if it causes quite an inconvenience to me. like I took my not particularly compact robe on a trip where I only took a large backpack to Scotland and had to carry everything myself everywhere without a car
