vampires  were  enough  of  a  problem  on  their  own,  he  didn’t  need  to  deal  with  a  demon  on  top  of  everything  else.  that  being  said,  he  didn’t  want  to  enter  another  deal  with  a  demon  either  ..  but  he  wasn’t  stupid  enough  to  think  for  a  moment  that  vine  wouldn’t  fuck  him  over  and  get  him  killed  if  he  didn’t  cooperate  either.  `  ...  i’m  not  giving  you  my  soul.  anything  else,  fine,  but  you  can’t  have  THAT.  `

CAYENNE.  everyone says that you're so bright, so loud, so much and maybe you are or maybe you're covering up that gaping wound in your chest with fireworks. or maybe you really are so bright so warm so hot but sometimes you wonder if anything will ever be enough to soothe that aching burning cold fire in your chest. you don't know what it is, can't ever let yourself close enough to that pyre to know if it's anger or fear or loneliness or grief but it's there and if you're good enough, funny enough, bold enough, maybe you can hide it from everyone else. maybe there's enough of you and enough of the world that you can outrun it forever, your own fire bright enough to put that wound to shame. bright enough to prove to everyone, anyone, yourself, your mother, your father, your friends, your classmates, the world, that you're enough. you're enough. you're enough.

       The BRIGHTEST of smiles began to pull at the edges of her painted peachy lips, eyes beginning to crinkle at the points. She was BEYOND excited. SO EXCITED! Minnie motioned towards the door, “come on. I’ll drive.” her car was a 1997 Kia Sportage. Falling apart, but it was her baby. “There’s a fried chicken place in the mall that I like going to. Spicy chicken is my absolute favorite.”

            `  You  had  me  at  chicken.  `    It  was  worth  giving  up  a  lazy  afternoon,  if  it  meant  seeing  that  VIBRANT  SMILE  he’d  sorely  missed  when  the  stress  of  exams  had  all  but  dulled  it.  The  joy  was  contagious,  that  lazy  smile  of  his  widening  at  its  corners.  Being  that  he  was  the  closest  to  the  door,  he  had  no  issue  in  walking  over  and  holding  it  open  for  Minerva  with  a  playful  bow  to  match.    `  Come  on  then,  our  afternoon  awaits.  `

He’s… not paying attention. Who would have guessed the professional gamer would get so easily distracted by ( shock! horror! ) a video game?! Well, a mobile game that is, but still. Ah-yeon seems so absolutely enamored by whatever game he’s playing on his phone that he doesn’t hear what the other is saying to him across the table, completely zoned out from the words.

          This wasn’t the first time something like this happened on one of his outings with Ah-yeon. It was common in fact, usually ending with Mattieu just giving up on trying to manage the conversation and simply slotting himself against the blond’s side to watch him play whatever had captured his attention. It was his off day, however ─ and they were in a restaurant ( well, a fast food place, but the sentiment remained ), meaning he wasn’t feeling nearly so accommodating this time. ` Don’t make me start calling you Goldilocks again !! `

            the  young  man  would  only  follow  her  as  far  as  the  porch,  his  nose  scrunching  up  in  distaste  towards  the  rain  currently  PUMMELLING  the  ground  in  waves.    `  i’m  going  to  get  wet  !!  `    mattieu  complained,  reaching  out  from  under  their  dry  safe  haven  to  cup  some  of  the  rain  in  his  hands.  he’d  promptly  pull  his  arms  back  and  shake  them  out.   `  i  knew  it,  you  don’t  really  like  me  after  all,  do  you  yeji  ?  `

          the  words  were  the  very  sort  that  usually  earned  little  more  than  an  unperturbed  sneer  as  far  as  responses  were  concerned.  of  course,  he  wasn’t  ordinarily  staring  down  harold  fucking  osborn  in  those  instances  either.  in  hindsight,  the  fact  he’d  gotten  this  far  into  the  building  was  impressive  enough  as  is  ─  and  curious.  

laughing  good  naturedly,  he  gestured  behind  himself  with  a  smile.      ‘  sorry,  sorry    !    someone  actually  let  me  in.  don’t  suppose  you  could  overlook  this  little  ..  issue  and  lead  me  back  out    ?    wouldn’t  want  to  bump  into  anything  i  shouldn’t  an’  all  ...  `  playing  nice,  he  could  manage  that  at  least.

           books  were  a  messy  business  ,  or  at  least  the  ones  korain  typically  handled  were.  the  young  man  just  bounced  on  his  feet  anxiously,  arms  gesturing  around  as  he  fought  with  the  urge  to  just  snatch  that  damned  book  away.  he  couldn’t  exactly  just  yell  out  “  hey  !  your  book  is  cursed  !  “  after  all.       `  yes,  yes.  very  TROUBLESOME.  not  worth  your  time  at  all.  in  fact,  it’s  so  worthless  that  you  should  put  it  down.  right  now.  `    it  was  an  honest  effort  at  least,  but  once  again  he  found  himself  distracted.    `  so  are  you  ...  famous  or  something  ?  `  he  stared  at  the  other,  his  gaze  scrutinizing  before  he  snapped  his  fingers.

          `  of  course  i  want  to  celebrate  ─  you’ve  been  stressing  out  ALL  WEEK  about  that  test.  `     careful  to  straighten  out  the  paper  and  avoid  any  undue  wrinkling,  he  held  it  right  back  out  to  her  with  a  flourish.     `  whatever  you  want,  it’s  your  celebration.  that  sounds  like  a  plan  to  me,  though  ..  but  food’s  on  me  !!  `
