am i just looking for things to be upset about? or is the fact that this article states things such as the fact that women are STILL forced to retire early then follows and ends the article with such a promising quote as "Women today, they can go out and do anything," her grandmother said. "They can do big things."  fucked up?  Also the fact yahoo states calling a girls dorm the "Panda House" because women were so rarely seen on campus, was a joke, therefore okay and just humorous, kind of isn't sitting well with me..

Rihanna "Man Down" Controversy *trigger warning: rape*

can i start off by saying fuck the fact i even have to address this in this manner. ahem.

incase you havent heard about rihannas new music video for man down all over the fucking local news, and blogs, let me inform you of this whack ass controversy. the song is about her killing a man she didnt want to but did. the video is basically her goofing off then hitting the club dancing with a then dude, now rapist, turning him down for a hook up, he then rapes her (which isnt shown) and so she shoots him.

the media is fucking UP IN ARMS! about the violent content displayed in this video, because waka flocka and lil wayne have never had any violent videos released or anything like that COUGHBUSTINATEMCOUGH! let me break it down, you know what i think everyones problem with this video is?

1. the fact that a female is the one with a firearm

2. the fact that there is a consequence for a rapist

3. the fact that there is even rape (because that shit dosent exist and shouldent be an issue of discussion right?!?!)

4. the woman is in charge

5. rihanna who has been a victim of assult in the past is portraying someone strong and standing up for other women instead of crying in the corner.

and please dont get me wrong, im not an advocate of violence in any way what so ever. i think rihannas response was perfect, via BET: 

“I don’t like to just make videos. I love to make an experience and this is art with a message,” she told hosts Terrence and Rocsi. “Obviously [the character is] not a cold-blooded killer. It has to be something so offensive and we decided to hone in on a very serious matter that people are afraid to address.”

Her intention was to send a strong message for women who have been victimized. “Rape is happening all over the world and right in our own home and we continue to cover it up and pretend it doesn’t happen,” she explained. “I personally don’t condone violence or murder. I’ve been abused in the past and you don’t see me running around killing people in my spare time. I just want girls to be careful.”

Slutwalk hasn't meant this much to me than right now. on my way home from picking up lista shirts with my mom tomorrow, i was explaining the point of tomorrow and slutwalk and all of that. i cant get the words out to write this very well right now. 

i just found out my mom was a victim of rape. by her friend. while she was asleep. with her best friend in the bed next to her.

i dont know what im feeling. can anyone help me with this?

EDIT: she said the reason she never told anyone ever was because she couldent get the words out. and that she didnt believe the justice system would of helped her. she thought their response would of been "why were you hanging out with a bunch of guys then"

im outraged. and upset. and angry. and hurt for my mother.

Results of my interview with the grassroots campaign:

yo. so, i got hired on the spot! its a fucking DOPE ass job, basically getting paid to make a difference. everything is under planned parenthood and id be walking around la spitting information about reproductive health rights and copping donations, full time. and its based of commission so how much i made is really up to me. problem is i am a full time student with a full time job, and they wont take me for the weekends. i told them id love to volunteer and support what they did though so hopefully that works out. 

anyone in the la area looking for a job should hit me up and i'll put you into contact with this office. what they do is awesome. talk is cheap. GET IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOODS! LET THEM KNOW YOU WONT STAND FOR HOW POLITICIANS TREAT US! WE HAVE A VOICE AND WE CAN BACK IT WITH ACTIONS! GET ANGRY! GET MOTIVATED! CHANGE SOMETHING!

(and fucking get paid for it. hell. yes.)
