Our Story - Raspberry Stains
A/N: My first Chris Evans series. This is just a fluffy little series that has been floating around in my brain for a while, and because I’ve recently fallen head first into the Chris trashcan, I figured he’d be the perfect person for this little love story AU. I mean absolutely no disrespect with this, it’s just a work of fiction. I also want to give a huge thank you to @percywinchester27 and @girl-next-door-writes for being my betas for this story. You are both amazing and I’m so grateful for your help on this.

It was a Thursday morning, mid-July, and I stood in the foyer with the Wallaces as we watched the doorman carry their luggage out of the apartment. Mind you, when I say apartment, I can assure you that it’s not what you imagine in your head. It’s not a standard two bedroom one bath kind of place. It had a vast living room, a grand dining room, a huge kitchen, a library, an office, two walk-in closets that were both bigger than my room, and a master bedroom that was beyond anything I’ve ever seen. It was bigger than my parents’ house, and that was without the staff quarters. Kate and Henry were heading out to their summer house in the Hamptons for the weekend, some time to disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other, she had told me. Sometimes I would accompany them out there, but that was usually if there was some kind of event they were to attend, or anything else that needed organizing. This weekend was all about relaxing, and so Kate instructed me to do the same.
“We won’t be home until late Monday,” she said as she put on her Valentino sunglasses. “Enjoy your time off, relax, maybe go on a date.” There was a playfulness to her smile and the way she said it that made me chuckle.
“Will do, Boss,” I confirmed, and they were out the door.

Someone hacked my account and tagged a bunch of people in an ad for sunglasses! This was not me, and I'm sorry to the people who got tagged.
Hopefully that was all they intended to do!

It was a Thursday morning, mid-July, and I stood in the foyer with the Wallaces as we watched the doorman carry their luggage out of the apartment. Mind you, when I say apartment, I can assure you that it’s not what you imagine in your head. It's not a standard two bedroom one bath kind of place. It had a vast living room, a grand dining room, a huge kitchen, a library, an office, two walk-in closets that were both bigger than my room, and a master bedroom that was beyond anything I've ever seen.
“We won't be home until late Monday,” she said as she put on her Valentino sunglasses. “Enjoy your time off, relax, maybe go on a date.” There was a playfulness to her smile and the way she said it that made me chuckle.
“Will do, Boss,” I confirmed, and they were out the door.
It was strange how little changed in the home while they were gone. Mitch had plans to spend his weekend with his boyfriend, and was out the door not five minutes after the Wallaces, but other than that, everything remained the same. Rosalia still cooked, Magdalena still cleaned, and the florist that delivered fresh flowers every Thursday still came. It was business as usual around the house, but I decided to do as my boss told me, and enjoy the time off.
A heat wave had hit earlier in the week, and the temperatures had reached nearly unbearable, but I still wanted to go out and get some fresh air. As a Georgia native, I wasn't exactly a stranger to unbearable heat. I showered, covered myself in sunscreen, and put on this little sundress that I had been dying to wear ever since I got it. It was light blue, with white flowers on, and it ended right above my knees. It had a square neckline and spaghetti straps, and some padding so that I didn't feel like I needed a bra under it. The fewer clothes in this heat, the better. I put my hair in a high ponytail, and my feet in some cork wedges, threw my purse over my shoulder and practically skipped out the door. My mood was light, I felt bubbly and excited about the weekend and as I walked towards my favorite ice cream shop. I felt as though nothing could possibly ruin my mood today.
With a spring in my step, I made my way to the park, got my frozen yoghurt with fresh wild berries, and then set off to my favorite little corner. The park was filled with tourists during the summer months. Usually, I would go to the Bethesda Fountain, but I knew it would be filled with sweaty people in ‘I heart New York’ shirts by now, so I opted for a space more secluded. I could still people-watch from here, but at a comfortable distance. The shade cast by the trees was an added bonus. My bench was in sight and my strides got a little quicker in hopes that no one would come and snag my seat, but my attention was drawn to a little squirrel eating a pinecone. It was freaking adorable, and I stopped to dig my phone out of my purse to snap a picture of him. Every day, without fail, I would snap a little picture and send it to my mom, letting her know I was okay and at the same time giving her a little insight into my day. She did the same, and that way we could feel a little more connected even though we were so far apart. The little squirrel would be the picture of the day, and I would caption it with ‘Step one of turning into a Disney Princess; befriend the wildlife.’
Just as I was ready to snap the little fellow, something huge hit me in my side and sent me straight to the ground. At least I managed to land on my ass somehow. The cup of frozen yogurt had been squashed into my stomach, my phone flew out of my hand, and of course the little squirrel threw his pinecone away and ran up a tree.
“Oh shit. I'm so sorry,” a deep voice said, gaining my attention. “I was running and I wasn’t looking where I was going….”
He’s not real, I thought to myself as I looked up at the man who now held out his hand to help me back on my feet. No one can just walk around and be this handsome without even trying. Clad in a black pair of gym shorts and a white t-shirt, he was definitely not dressing to impress anyone, and his hair lay matted against his forehead from sweat, but still, he was the most beautiful man I had ever seen. Baby blue eyes, a slightly crooked nose, full lips, and a sharp jawline. Then there was his body, he was clearly built like some kind of statue, I could tell as much even with his shirt on. I took his hand, not even grossed out by the fact that it was clammy, and he hoisted me to my feet.
“Shit, I've ruined your dress,” he stated, looking truly apologetic about what had just transpired. “Are you okay? Are you hurt?”
I looked down and saw the giant red stain on my beautiful dress and part of me wanted to cry out. Raspberry was easy to get out of linen fabric right? “I'm alright,” I said as I wiped at my dress, trying to get the rest of the froyo and berries off of it.
“I wasn't looking where I was running,” he repeated frantically. “I'm so sorry.”
I couldn't help but chuckle at this man's despair. “It's fine, really,” I tried to assure.
“But your dress.”
“Can be drycleaned... probably. I'm more annoyed that you ruined my Disney moment,” I said, regretting it as soon as the words were out of my mouth.
“Your Disney moment?” he wondered, tilting his head like puppies do when you speak to them in a particular voice.
“Well, you know in Disney movies when the Princesses, with their beauty and grace, befriends the local wildlife? Like Cinderella has birds dressing her, and mice making clothes for her. And Snow White has a whole forest of animals that helps her clean and cook,” I explained, stupidly thinking he would get where I was going with this, but he seemed as though he was waiting for the rest, so I lay it out. “There was a squirrel.” I pointed in the general direction of where he had disappeared. “So I was going to offer him some berries and we would become friends so that I could have my Disney princess moment.”
He laughed a hearty laugh that made my own smile spread. “I'm so sorry,” he offered again through his chuckles.
I couldn't help but join in. “You must think I'm a complete and utter weirdo.”
“Oh, absolutely,” he said, still smiling. The way he said it didn't make me feel as though he was having a jab at me, but more like he was maybe a little intrigued. Then he extended his hand to formally introduce himself. “I'm Chris. Huge Disney nerd and fellow weirdo,” he said with a very charming smile.
“YN,” I said, shaking his hand, delighted to find it wasn't clammy anymore.
“It's nice to meet you, YN. Although I wish we could have met without me knocking you on your butt and ruining your dress,” he said.
“And my Disney princess moment,” I reminded.
“And your princess moment,” he added with a cheeky grin. “How can I make it up to you?”
“Unless you can convince the squirrel to come take a photo with me, I don't think you can, Chris,” I said in a serious tone.
“Fuck,” he muttered. “That might prove to be difficult. What if I offer to pay your drycleaning bill?” he wondered.
“Sorry… Squirrel is the only way. I might settle for a wild bird, but that's my final offer,” I said.
“Alright, I'll work on that,” he said thoughtfully. “In the meantime, maybe I can buy you a coffee? I'm sure we don't have to walk far to find a place to get one.”
Was he asking me out? I wasn't sure. Normally I wouldn't be this forward, but there was something about this day, and this man, that made me find some deeply buried courage. “I really have to go home and change out of this dress. I will let you take me out for a drink later though.”
Again, he chuckled. “Alright.”
After exchanging numbers, and what could only be described as an awkward ‘see you later,’ we parted ways and I headed back to the little room that I had grown to call home. Even though my dress was ruined, I had a spring in my step that I hadn't had in a while, and excitement about this evening had already started brewing in my stomach. Chris was about a head taller than me, even with the wedges I wore, and there was something about the way he stood that made me feel a certain kind of way. I'm not gonna try and deny that the bulging biceps and the clear outline of his pecs through his shirt didn't make me feel some kind of way as well, but that was far from the only reason I wanted to have drinks with him later.
As I waited for the elevator in the lobby, Mitch came barging through the door that led to the staircases, looking a little disheveled, and plenty stressed. Apparently, he wasn't stressed enough not to stop and make note of my ruined dress. “Oh no! How on earth did this happen?” he wondered as he stopped in front of me, wiggling his finger at the red stain.
“Long story,” I said, knowing that he probably didn't have time to listen to me recap the whole thing, even though I desperately wanted to. Mitch was the only friend I ever talked to about my love life, or lack thereof. Rosalia was much older, and would scrunch her nose every time I even neared the subject, and Magdalena would say, in her broken English, ‘Swines! All men are swines, YN. Only after one thing. You know of what I speak?’. Kate and I had some brief and light conversations, but it hardly felt appropriate to speak so intimately with my boss. So that left Mitch. We would talk, sometimes share a tub of ice cream while wallowing and whining about how there were no good men left out there. “It involves froyo and a very handsome stranger,” I added.
Mitch looked longingly at the front door, probably because his man was waiting for him outside, and then back at me with a tortured look and a sigh. I knew he wanted all the deets, but clearly, he was in a rush. “I need to know everything,” he said eagerly. “You, me, vodka tonics and gossip when I get back Sunday,” he demanded. Then, as he always did, he kissed me once on each cheek and scurried off.
The elevator ride didn't take long at all, but before the doors opened on my floor, I was lost in thoughts about how Chris’ strong arms would feel like wrapped around me. Before I reached the door, I had imagined the taste and feel of his lips on mine, and when I finally entered my room, I felt all hot and bothered by the scenarios my brain had concocted. My dress went back on it's hanger where I covered it with the bag it came in so it’d be ready to take to the drycleaners, and then I jumped in the shower, turning the temperature down as if that would help me shower off the very dirty thoughts I now had about the handsome stranger in the park.
*
Through texts, we had decided to meet at a little bar about a block from Union Square Park at seven. It was like a hidden treasure, Chris had written, probably not suitable for a princess. I laughed as I read that, and quickly reminded him that thanks to him, I was not a princess yet. The day had dragged on in an agonizingly slow pace, and now that I was about to step into the little bar, I wished I had more time. My outfit had been chosen, second-guessed, and tossed aside at least five times, and so in the end I landed on a knee length black dress with a denim jacket and Converse sneakers to make it more casual. I didn't want to make it obvious that I thought this was a date, but I also didn't want to be underdressed if it, in fact, was a date. Honestly, I had no clue what this was. Most likely this was just him wanting to apologize for ruining my dress, and I had gotten all excited for nothing. Well, not nothing. I still got to spend a couple of hours with the most beautiful man that I had ever seen in my life.
