I finished reading The Lord of the Rings for the first time in my life. With all of *vague gesture at everything* this going on.
I Am Not Okay
#Tolkien fought in the war too and would have known intimately that no#You can't do it yourself#You can't bear it all alone#If there was one consistent thing I hear from people who have seen combat it's that#You have to rely on others to survive and get through it#And the same goes for anything really#All political movements are collective for a reason#Because not everyone can play every role#But everyone can play SOME role

I genuinely think if you want to have kids, you should have a list of at least a dozen people who you would trust at the drop of a hat to pick your kid up or take care of them in an emergency. Family, friends, neighbors - you need to start building your village so when you have a kid somebody can bring a meal, or help around the house postpartum, or take an older child on short notice in case of an emergency.
And be ready to be that person for others - even if you are child-free for life, look out for your pregnant, postpartum, adopting, and child-rearing community members and see if they need support.
And don't come on my post and say "don't have a kid unless you can care for them alone." It's just not true. A single person given full responsibility for the life of a child (especially an infant) can become a danger to themselves and their kids. They are the primary caregiver, not the only one. In many cultures (and among the wealthy in every culture) it is normal to hire people to assist with children, especially newborns, whose care equates to a full-time job.
#I never want my own children#But in an emergency situation of course I would watch my friends' kids#I'm not heartless??

love when a mother asks if they have ever done anything to hurt you. ma'am, you will literally never be ready to have this conversation
#my mother’s insecurity about her parenting is LOUD too#I mention one bad mother story from work and she's like 'but I was a good mom right' like why do you need this validation rn

watching a video and realizing I miss the term "flame war", it was JUST tongue-in-cheek goofy enough of a term to describe how silly it was to carry on long arguments online over shit that doesn't matter and was often started/spurned by a troll. Now ALL of it is just "discourse" or "engagement" which feels like they put a godawful slap of PR paint over the surface of flame wars like a cheap landlord looking to charge 1000 dollars more for the same crumbling walls

It was cocky and overconfident to call the Titanic "unsinkable" but one thing that's overlooked is that she was genuinely really, unusually solid. She could float even with 4 compartments fully flooded, which even a lot of modern day ships can't do.
And it's not like they were wrong about her being solid! Olympic, her identical sister ship, survived being torpedoed and then running over the U-Boat that fired that torpedo. Those ships were solid.
It's very clear that absolutely no other ship in 1912 would have been able to survive that collision, and it's a testament to the quality of the ship that she didn't sink in a few minutes Empress of Ireland style. Part of what makes the Titanic such a tragic story is that it isn't a group of rich idiots locking themselves in a shoddy iron barrel to go 4km underwater. It was 2200 people, most of whom were poor immigrants, on a reliable ship on a commonly-made journey, and then something went horribly, unpredictably wrong.

biggest L i've had to take from morning people is that the hours between 5 - 9 am really do have 7x as much time in them than the ones between 9 pm - 1 am and you can get your whole day's worth of shit done by noon

It's Juneteenth yall. And I'm not letting this day go unmarked.
Black people fight for everybody. We stand in solidarity with women, lgbt people, poor people all over the world of every skin color and background. Every religion and nationality.
Today, stand with us. Be with us. Tell a black person you love them. Hug a black person (with consent). Ask that hot black girl out today. Make a black person smile. Black lives matter to everybody and you matter to us.
Stand with us on Juneteenth like we stand with you all year round, and I hope a happy Pride month continues for all of us
💝
#what if the hot black woman I wanna ask out is my supervisor though :'D#anyways I'm not black myself which I feel the need to specify because this post is written in 1st person but happy juneteenth y'all
