part of what makes me so angry about the medical profession is the entire system's confusion about who is the servant.
I don't expect fudal deference from doctors, I'm not calling for them to doff their hats. But I do expect the same kind of respect and obedience I expect from people who work in shops and resurants.
Yes, doctors know more than I do about medicine. Chefs know more than I do about cooking, that's why I'm willing to pay them more to make food for me. But that skill doesn't make them my master, it doesn't give the chef a right to mandate I eat certain things, it doesn't mean I need a chef's consent before I eat. Their skill exists to serve me, not to impose their will on me.
Yes, the person behind the till knows more about what her shop sells than I do, and so I might ask advice if I have an unusual or complicated requirement. But that doesn't mean I should applaud terrible service, it doesn't mean I should be made to rearrange my schedule to suit the conveince of the shop, it doesn't mean I should be the one sent out to fetch things.
You don't need to be my vassal, but I will not be yours.

Reblog if you think people going off their meds are valid.
Reblog if you think people shouldn't have to justify their decisions to anyone else.
Reblog if you support unmedicated ND people.
Reblog if you support people trying to get off their meds.
Reblog if you support giving unmedicated people hugs and cuddles and all the affection we so often don't get from the community.

in another, more whimsical world, taylor swift is the name of an anthropomorphic bird who sews clothing and wears a monocle

the whole ideology of "irrationality" the way it means for Crazy people is one of the worst things ever to me. the idea of "crazy" in the way that "irrational" entails just means like. you are malfunctioning. you are having the Factually incorrect, inappropriate reaction to something that does not deserve it.
"irrationality" of a crazy person removes us from the dignity and reasoning of human nature that even allows us to have an "appropriate" reaction at all, and it fails to grapple with how and why people feel what they do by disregarding the possibility of circumstances that elicited it. instead, it decides that crazy people make no sense, so dont even try to understand us. we are not understandable, and we dont deserve to be understood. all of our reactions are the wrong ones because we are crazy, and our craziness makes us have the wrong reactions. (circle of logic)
its an incredibly efficient and convenient dehumanization, because it strips us of our right to be a subject that has a "legitimate" reaction to our circumstances at all, and is utilized in a backwards way of reasoning to dismiss any and all critical thinking or rational analysis or logic that we utilize about ourselves and our reality. because a crazy person is just irrational after all. it all goes in the garbage. thats what happened to me. it did not matter how smart or sound or sane i was when i explained why i know im being abused. they did not care, because i was already a Crazy person, therefore my reasoning is bad. period.

I don't like showing much vulnerability online like I did as a kid and it feels good to keep my lil secrets and personal space.
that said, I'll be honest and say that having my(our old host) art completely ripped into by the internet not only hurt and traumatized us but it also made me almost give up art all together. I don't like panicking over small mistakes or slightly anatomical errors that are bound to happen. when you post your work online you are kinda opening yourself to many things, whether that be adornment, or pure hatred/mockery. still I believe putting yourself and your work out there is very brave. I'm glad I never dropped art.

As a wheelchair user I'm trying to reframe my language for "being in the way."
"I'm in the way," "I can't fit," and "I can't go there," is becoming "there's not enough space," "the walkway is too narrow," and "that place isn't accessible."
It's a small change, but to me it feels as if I'm redirecting blame from myself to the people that made these places inaccessible in the first place. I don't want people to just think that they're helping me, I want them to think that they're making up for someone else's wrongdoing. I want them to remember every time I've needed help as something someone else caused.
