The sky is a light blue today.
In the conference room, both booted feet propped up on the table, Hongjoong leans back in his chair with his eyes closed, listening to the officers sitting at the meeting table with him debate heatedly in raised voices.
“We can’t just go after the pirates at Tortuga! It’s the strongest pirate base, and even if we expend all our efforts to capture it, the pirates will just head for the Windward passage and escape, all our efforts to capture them will be for naught!”
“I know that. But as you said, Tortuga is the largest pirate base operating right now, and if we don’t strike first, there’s no telling if other pirates will move to back it up.”
“But-”
“Silence, the lot of you. I’m thinking.”
The quarrelling officers abruptly fall silent at that one command, turning to look at Hongjoong, who’s been lounging there without a word for the entire meeting. His poisonous green eye is narrowed as he levels a piercing stare slowly at all of them, arms crossed over his chest. An officer swallows.
“Yes, sir.”
“Mingi, get the map out for me.”
The tall man rises from his seat to stride over to the bookshelves, pulling out a heavy oakwood box reinforced with iron strips and setting it on the table with a heavy thump. Reaching into the pocket of his navy blue coat, he pulls out an iron key and sets it into the lock, before he removes several yellowing pieces of parchment from within the box and places them on the table.
Hongjoong leans forward, placing his chin on interlaced fingers as he studies the maps laid out before him with a critical eye. The rest of the officers don’t say a word, only watching the man at work with a mixture of slight doubt and anticipation, wondering what plan he’s going to fashion to eradicate the pirate strongholds once and for all.
Kim Hongjoong. Ex-captain of the pirate ship called the Treasure. Known as the ruthless Pirate King by any who had encountered him and even those who hadn’t, immortalised in folk tales and stories that crossed lips to ears.
And yet, here he is, sitting before them in the flesh. Rising through the ranks rapidly, from a nameless trainee to the Commander in Chief of the Piracy Eradication Expedition. Younger than many of them have expected. Smaller than many of them have imagined him to be.
There are rumours that the Queen herself places high hopes on him.

pirate king (88): FINAL ➵ ateez
➳ PAIRING: reader x kim hongjoong (ateez) or jung wooyoung (ateez)
➳ WORD COUNT: 3315
➳ GENRE: fantasy+pirate au; romance; mystery; adventure; action
➳ SYNOPSIS: the end of this journey.

Perhaps, somewhere deep in you, you’ve always known that it would have to come to an end.
Death isn’t a concept known only to humans. From the second the breath of life passes through any living being, it fights, flees and struggles to stay alive. The reason a a shoal of fish scatter before a shark, why birds take to the sky to escape stray cats fighting for their own sustenance, death is the one language every creature understands.
Survival instinct. The basest, most primal drive shared by every living being on this earth. Stay alive.
That’s what you’re fighting as you walk towards the black dagger pointed directly at you, the wind screaming in your ears, power surging through your fingertips even as you feel your body crumbling apart under the onslaught you’re putting it through. Slowly chipping at you, sand falling through your fingertips, the end draws closer and closer no matter how much you’ve tried to fight it - inevitable.
Two responses, fight or flight.
You can no longer run from this anymore.
“Finally, we meet again, sea goddess.”
An odd feeling stirs in you, strangely serene even as the storm swirls around you, lightning flashing and thunder raging. Right, you remember now, your memories slowly surfacing the more your body deteriorates. The sea, the storm, the sky. You could never ben human to begin with. This is who you are.
Hot tears burn your eyes, sting against the cracking skin of your cheeks, but you bite your lip and stand strong, back straight and eyes fixed firmly on the man in front of you. The blade in his hand trembles at the sight of you, and somewhere in the depths of your memory, you realise why Hongjoong’s gaze had drawn you from the very beginning upon your first meeting.
The same fierce gaze. The burning glare. Both father and son had the same eyes.

“Hongjoong has always known that he would have to face his father again.
It was inevitable the second Hongjoong had chosen to become the man he was - a pirate, and one known as the Pirate King of the Caribbean, at that. Hongjoong hadn’t chosen the life of a pirate on his own, it had simply been a means to survival when there was no path left for him to take, but he had to admit he had embraced it partially to spit on his father’s ideals as the Chief Commander of the Royal Navy.
And now, he’s meeting his father eye to eye once again, both on different sides of the beach - both on different sides to this battle.
But while he has Wooyoung and Yeosang flanking both his sides, the hot summer air of the tropics taking on a sudden chill, his father approaches the no man’s land in a tiny boat - completely alone.
“Yeosang, do you notice something strange?” Wooyoung whispers out of the corner of his mouth, and Hongjoong can tell from just tense he is from the way his jaw is clenched. Hongjoong can’t see that well with one eye, but he trusts Wooyoung’s instincts and sight as the head gunner.
Next to him, Yeosang nods, a barely perceivable tilt of the head. “Something’s off, but I can’t tell what it is…” The navigator mumbles under his breath, chewing on his bottom lip. Hongjoong swallows, feeling unease stir in the pit of his belly. Just what is happening?
“They haven’t noticed the Treasure, have they?” Hongjoong murmurs softly as his father’s lone boat approaches the island - it’s barely small enough to fit a single man, yet it captures his attention more easily the massive armada at his father’s back. Yeosang nods again, eyes still fixed intently on the rowboat approaching shore.

so i was re-watching The 100 and as i came to the part where Clarke leaves the Ark because she can’t handle what she’s done (kill the mountain people) at the end of s2, i realised the writers did her storyline in s3 so dirty.
because imagine, she’s known as the commander of death (wanheda). the grounders, especially Azgeda, believe she holds all this power because she killed so many people. and she also got rid of the mountain men who has been a big enemy of them. yes, the queen of ice nation put a bounty on her head because she wants Clarke’s power, but it was obviously also because she feels threatened by her.
wouldn’t it then be realistic thta some grounders would go looking for her because they’d want to join her? as in make her their commander. with how ruthless the Azgeda people, and grounder warriors in general are, of course many of them would want to be a part of Wankru (death people, or smth like that) lead by the commander of death herself.
wouldn’t it be so cool to see Clarke as the leader of this small village of warriors in the beginning of s3? because i’m pretty sure she would be able to gather enough people to follow her. she’s a natural born leader and it seemed kinda weird that she would just go around grounder territory alone, while knowing she has a bounty on her head.
another thing, she spent enough time around grounders for her to learn trig fluently. so she could’ve easily used the language to find and lead her own people.

Tortuga is not happy to have you back.
“You were the man who took our town leader hostage! You cannot simply just stride back onto port and walk here as if you have not just committed the gravest of sins!” A portly man dressed in velvet and gold waves so furiously that his expensive silk cravat has become stained with sweat. “You, hooligans, don’t ever come back to this town!”
Wooyoung simply shrugs and makes to pick his ear with his pinky, entirely without a care in the world. You kick him in the shin and he yelps, shying away.
“Say you’re sorry!”
“I didn’t do anything wrong!” He protests, and Yeosang tilts his head back slightly in the middle of negotiations to fix Wooyoung with a glare so menacing you can practically see the darkness rolling off him. Wooyoung must feel the same sensation - of death stepping across his grave - because he shivers and rubs the back of his neck. “Okay, maybe I might have done a thing or two-”

You clamber up the rope ladder, but before you can climb over the bulwarks a pair of strong, firm arms lift you clean over the side and set you gently on the deck. When you look up, you see Yunho’s soft brown eyes, a lopsided smile curling at the side of his mouth. “Welcome home.”
“Chin Hae, you’re alive!” San is little more than a blur as he practically tackles you in a hug, clinging to you so tightly you’re terrified you might fall over the side of the ship again. He’s shaking and the shoulder of your shirt is quickly turning damp, you realise, and with a fond smile you squeeze him back as tightly as you can to soothe him.
“Yeah,” you say, and words have never felt more right on your tongue. “I’m alive.”
Then as fast as San had raced over to embrace you, it turns into a berating session.
“I can’t believe how foolish you are! Do you think you’re invincible or something, jumping onto enemy territory without a second thought?” You wince at the volume of his scolding and meet Hongjoong’s eye over your master’s shoulder as he climbs over side of the ship, landing on his feet lightly. His gaze is full of laughter and you glare at him, mouthing the words “help me!”

The two of you have been drifting for an awfully long time now.
You don’t know exactly how long you’d been passed out for, or what exactly you’d been dreaming off when you were asleep, but when you’d come to, you’d realised that you were on a raft… floating all alone in the middle of a sea of great blue.
Well, all alone except for your captain lying next to you, at least.
You hadn’t remembered falling asleep, and you had most certainly not with your captain’s arms wrapped around you protectively, your head tucked into his shoulder. When you had awakened, the smell of sea salt and warm sun nudging insistently against your senses, you had startled and very nearly upended the entire raft that your lives depended on.
Now, however, you’re content with watching the gentle sunlight filtering between the clouds reflecting of the waves. You sit at the edge of the raft carefully, resisting the urge to dip your toes in the bottomless ocean, shoals of rainbow fish inspect your raft curiously and their scales glinting iridescent under liquid diamonds while you wait for your captain to awake.
