So I did this drawing of Princess Leia on black.

Her regular colors weren’t going that well so I kinda went straight back into my dada phase and went crazy with the colors based on what I had on hand. I was also aiming for realism but that also sorta fell off when I went all dada at it.

This is colored pencil by the way and the process for that led to an… unwanted terrifying progress photo.

Which I included under the cut:

Soooooo this is what I did with a white colored pencil for the colors to sit on top of and it’s terrifying. Like straight out of the uncanny valley.

It’s face plates and teeth as far as the eye can see.

It’s the end of the chapter! Time for Artists notes~

Bobby just got bitten! Emotions were running high! What happens next?

I’m not here giving out those answers right now, but I am giving a sneak peak into how this chapter was made.

Starting with the planning sketches for the last 6 pages of the chapter:

These ones break from the norm for the rest as they were done digitally, it’s just because I didn’t have my commonplace sketchbook on hand when sketching the last 6 pages.

This chapter as a whole has been just a rollercoaster to work on from beginning to end with one final twist: There’s going to be more pages this Sunday! That’s right, we’re not going on hiatus right now like we usually do. And that’s because we’ve been working really hard to be able to bring you Chapter 2.5 throughout May!

This Weeks Artists notes!

We’re doing all these pages together for the sake of time and because since last weeks experiment proved step-by-step was faster I did these pages all at the same time so I could do that.

Little Bobby and Catnap are freakin adorable (and it’s not just bias because I designed them) They’re both 5 or 6 in these pages.

Also side note- Bobby is the one talking here, not catnap (just in case that wasn’t obvious.)

It’s Artists Notes time!

Page 22, 23, & 24:

Well this is weird, usually I go page by page what’s this? Well these pages were done a bit differently than the others. All 3 were finished at the same time and rate because I broke things down by step. I did the lineart on all 3 before moving on to coloring the characters, then I did shading on the characters, then backgrounds, and finally speech bubbles. I wanted to see if there is a more time efficient way for me to do pages, and the answer was yes! I don’t know if I’ll do it this way all the time from now on but it’s an interesting result.

(Also look at the tiny Catnap and Bobby on the last panel they’re so cute!)

It’s Commonplace Sketch time!

This is a character from a story (set of stories?) I’m working on, currently under the title Tales of Noctun. His name is Solaris and he’s complicated and kinda depressed. I’m currently slowly working on an animatic explaining who he is that is based around a Steven Universe song.

And no I wasn’t being creative with the colors, he really is this yellow.

This is a page that required a whole bunch of perspective and lighting work to make happen, but this is also the last page on its planning sheet so…..

Yeah. Enjoy my scribbles that somehow turn into the comic pages you all get to see on the comic blog.

They’re together! For the first time this chapter! Yay! Scaling a character with a neat, steady environment and keeping it consistent is annoying but doable and I’m going to need to get more used to it anyway.

So this one has been cooking for a while now.

He’s been kinda my background project with comic pages for @sccollabblog coming just slightly higher on my priority list.

He would have been finished a week ago,

He should have been finished a week ago,

I wanted him finished a week ago,

But my drawing stylus DIED SO I GUESS NOT!

To be fair it was a year over its expected lifespan but still

So this only got finished today when I managed to get my hands on something that will work until I can get a replacement stylus

This was an easy design (especially so for this new set) and I would have been so happy with him if that hadn’t happened right at the end.

It is time……

For Artists Notes!

Everybody’s favorite vampire kitty is back baby! This chapter is taking place the same day as chapter 1 so if you don’t know what’s up I’d use the Masterpost link to catch up (it’s only 13 pages long) and even if you add up all the pages of the comic planned right now (that gives the prologue 12, Chapter 1 13, and Chapter 2 its full 36) you only get 51 in total which isn’t that much. (And they’re all neatly organized through the link to make reading older pages easy)

Page 14:

Catnap passed out after being “bitten” and got rained on a while before he got up. It was a more complicated process making this page as there is already water everywhere and the blood that has gushed out of the wound on his neck needed to flow into and mix with the rainwater. These 4 pages are fairly complex because of that.

Page 15:

Has Catnap waking up for the first time as a vampire. Which means that now you, the great people who read my artists notes get another bonus! Coming to you in the form of Catnaps new reference sheet that I made after struggling with keeping him on-model during chapter 1 without it. Bobby currently has one of these too but you won’t get to see it for a while because it has spoilers on it.

It is a worthy note that this is just his base model which gets more and less detailed depending on how far away he is. Left side is vampire Catnap and right side is his appearance from Chapter 1. All of his colors are in the boxes executed for black and white.

Page 16:

He’s panicking pretty bad here (for reasons explained later. no I will not be giving spoilers here) So here’s a bit of vampire lore in this universe: they still need to breathe. But we didn’t have to worry about drowning him in a puddle while unconscious because vampires can breathe underwater in this universe. Anyway I got to draw a generally panicked, wet, and miserable kitty here.

Page 17:

Not much more to say except for this fun detail: his tail is dragging all over instead of him picking it up off the ground like cats usually do. It’s just a neat little detail I added.
