AI data centers are being approved at a breakneck pace across the country, particularly in poorer regions where they are pitched as economic development projects to boost property tax receipts, bring in jobs and where they’re offered sizable tax breaks. Data centers typically don’t hire many people, though, with most jobs in security and janitorial work, along with temporary construction work. And the costs to the utility’s other customers can remain hidden because of a lack of scrutiny and the limited power of state energy regulators. Many data centers—like the one Meta is building in Holly Ridge—are being powered by fossil fuels. This has led to respiratory illness and other health risks and emitting greenhouse gasses that fuel climate change. In Memphis, a massive data center built to launch a chatbot for Elon Musks’ AI company is powered by smog-spewing methane turbines, in a region that leads the state for asthma rates.

A research paper by Ari Peskoe and Eliza Martin published in March looked at 50 regulatory cases involving data centers, and found that tech companies were pushing some of the costs onto utility customers through secret contracts with the utilities. The paper found that utilities were often parroting rhetoric from AI boosting politicians—including President Biden—to suggest that pushing through permitting for AI data center infrastructure is a matter of national importance.

Pro-Palestine activists have damaged two Royal Air Force (RAF) planes after breaking into the largest airbase in Britain early on Friday morning on electric scooters.  Footage shared by Palestine Action (PA) shows two protesters riding scooters towards the RAF planes on the runway at the Brize Norton airbase, where they used "repurposed fire extinguishers to spray red paint into the turbine engines" and "caused further damage using crowbars". The activists then evaded security and escaped the base. The group announced on its website on Friday that the aibase was targeted because flights leave daily from there "for RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, a base used for military operations in Gaza and across the Middle East". "Red paint, symbolising Palestinian bloodshed, was also sprayed across the runway and a Palestine flag was left on the scene," Palestine Action said. Brize Norton serves as the UK's hub for strategic air transport and refuelling.  The planes the activists damaged were Airbus Voyagers, which carry military cargo and refuel fighter jets and military aircraft. A Palestine Action spokesperson said: "Despite publicly condemning the Israeli government, Britain continues to send military cargo, fly spy planes over Gaza and refuel US/Israeli fighter jets. "Britain isn’t just complicit, it’s an active participant in the Gaza genocide and war crimes across the Middle East." The spokesperson added: "By decommissioning two military planes, Palestine Action have directly intervened to break the chains of oppression."

hey yall. ive been dealing with increasingly intense chronic pain and decreasing mobility on my legs for the past few months now (and with winter arriving in the southern hemisphere, the pain is only getting worse), which really hampers my ability to work most physical jobs nowadays, worsening our already bad financial situation. Right now, my friend Ibrahim Aburakhia @aburakhiaibrahim is suffering from an allergic reaction to chemicals in the bombs the IOF has been dropping on Ghazzah. His hands and arms are painfully swollen and irritated. The reaction has been causing Ibrahim a lot of pain, and keeps spreading through his body. Unfortunately, Ibrahim isn't even able to focus on getting treatment and recovering, as the situation him and his family are in is dire.

Prices for basic food and water in Ghazzah are extremely high. Ibrahim's family of 28 people are living on the brink of starvation, unable to get the food they need. Donations to their campaign have been slow, making it even harder for them to purchase food.

The Aburakhia family has a chance to escape the nightmare they are living through. They have been approved for family reunification to join relatives in Canada, who they have not gotten to see in years. However, before they can do so, they have to leave Ghazzah through the crossing and reach Egypt. Unfortunately, passing the crossing can cost up to $5,000 per person, and saving money is difficult when even a bag of flour can cost hundreds of dollars in Ghazzah.

Even after raising funds for over a year, Ibrahim has only reached about half of his total goal. This isn't nearly enough for his family to survive right now, let alone evacuate and reach safety.

My Testimony About What Happened at the American Aid Distribution Point

That day, I went out with one hope ، to bring back food for my starving family. But what happened there felt like the Day of Judgment.

As we stood in line waiting for humanitarian aid, we were suddenly met with a hail of bullets. We were shot at by Israeli snipers, attacked by quadcopter drones, and even assaulted by looters supported by the Israeli army. We were completely unarmed, simply trying to get food ، but the bullets of betrayal spared no one.

I was shot in the leg a minor injury ، but my phone was destroyed after being hit directly. I had no way to contact anyone. I’m now using a borrowed phone, just to write these words… hoping they reach someone who cares.

I saw bodies fall all around me… more than 70 people were killed, including children, women, and elderly men. Moments earlier, they were standing beside me, simply waiting for aid. They were not a threat to anyone ، just hungry human beings.

I went out in search of food for my family of 26 people, including a young girl who was injured in the war and urgently needs special care and surgery. I came back wounded, devastated, empty-handed, and without a phone.

We are not living ، we are slowly dying. The occupation has turned us into zombies… starving, sick, hopeless.

Please, do not forget us.

It’s not just a glance at food — it’s a glimpse of life pulled from the jaws of hunger, of dignity reclaimed from the ruins, of a long‑delayed hope that feels like a mother’s embrace calming a frightened child.

The world may see a loaf of bread as a commodity, aid, or a number in a report.

But here in #Gaza, a father sees a small victory over death, a mother sees the warmth of a table that has lost almost everything, and a family sees a fragile roof over a house with no walls.

Each loaf a child eats here is praised a hundred times over, because reaching it feels like surviving certain death, like pulling a life from under the rubble, like beating the flames of bombing and starvation for one more night.

This is the reality for my family, trying to survive one day at a time, one loaf at a time, one dream at a time, amid a siege, destruction, and a long, merciless war.

I have nothing to offer but this plea from the heart — for those who still value humanity, for those who can help.

I am really worried about Samir. Samir was recently shot in the stomach, which ruptured his spleen and liver. Samir's father Ahmed tells me that Samir had to have part of his spleen removed, and now he needs another operation to remove another part of his organ. Samir has been screaming day and night due to the pain. In addition, Samir leg was severely injured that it might have to be amputated. He has fallen into a coma AGAIN.

Samir may die if he doesn't get the medical treatment he needs. And he will NOT be able to get the surgery he needs if they don't receive your help to cover the fees for travel and medical treatment.

Samir is in a coma right now and he needs to undergo those medical treatments RIGHT NOW. Ahmed has already lost his younger son Saeed and his son-in-law. You can help him save Samir. Please help.

As tensions continues between the two settler colonies and Iran, we must continue doing our part for Palestine. A famine is in place. Aid is limited, but civilians and staff are targeted and killed. 43 Palestinian have been martyred today. 13 of them are aid seekers!
