Art by Bernie Wrightston
. . . his eyes, if they may be called, were fixed on me.
High quality version because I cannot find it anywhere else online in high res? Which is a tragedy. It’s not a scan, just a pic of my book so it’s been edited but I’ve tried to preserve the original intent.
Side note! Though Bernie has passed on, his son John is an artist as well and works as a makeup artist, sculptor and painter, and has carried on the Frankenstein tradition using his father’s work as inspiration.

He had an impressive portfolio on his instagram

My current Franken-shrine 💚💚💚

#frankenshrine#it is my firm belief that having a shrine is actually a sign of mental wellness#as opposed to that stereotype of the creepy weirdo with a gross obsessive shrine#unless it’s to a person who doesn’t know about it ☝️#its interior design-collecting-curation and hyperfixation all in one#makes me very happy

The agony of making art that contains a design that’s part of a larger project that must be kept under wraps lest I spoil my own work so I have nothing. To. Share.

#frankenstein#it’s technically true and false#i actually don’t care what you call him cause all names for him have different values for different purposes#people who say ☝️um actually he’s called Adam upset me more than people who call him Frankenstein honestly

Design is hugely important to me and the ballet version by Liam Scarlett was instantly a favorite of mine. It’s just so striking, the red and white skin tones versus the comical green we’re so used to. He’s beautiful in the way that the human form is but visceral and terrifying to encounter irl without being grotesque. My beloved ❤️.
In a similar vein, Fernando Vicente likes to portray him without skin which I find interesting and endearing in a way. Though not quite accurate I will suspend my disbelief.

One I am really fond for is the statue of him in Geneva Switzerland made by the artist group KLAT. He is height accurate, ugly but lovable and while he does sort of look like a lumbering ogre I feel like he fits the book description of proportionate yet disproportionate at the same time. Also, he wears a hoodie and jeans which the artists gave him on purpose to make him more relatable to a modern society

(Fun fact they shocked it with Tesla coils during the unveiling)
Finally just a really interesting one is the illustrations from a theater adaptation of the novel produced all the way back in 1823 called Presumption; or, the Fate of Frankenstein. I love how the creature is given the dramatic flair similar to depictions of angels with their flowing robes, fitting for one self described as a fallen angel

I believe this play had a fair amount of influence on the 1831 James Whale film which then went on to influence today’s pop culture idea of what Frankenstein is. Also, Mary Shelly saw it and called the creature the “unnamable” which has always stuck with me…
Of course personality and story adaptations are a whole other ball park but like I said, visual designs are what speaks to me the most and these are some of my favorites
Survey!!!
What are everyone's favorite interpretations of Frankenstein's Creature/Monster? It can be from film, theatre, illustration, etc. Go as niche as you want, book accuracy doesn't matter, what are your favorites!

"V...Victor?"
#BIG SCARRY GUY!!!#I love the intricacies of the monster but sometimes a shadowy silhouette is best at conveying what a looming horror he is#I hate that even here I can recognize his specific eye shine… creepy#also thank you for appreciating Elizabeth so much?#she really did deserve better and seeing differing opinions on her is expanding my understanding#elizabeth lavenza#frankenstein
