From last night: The US premiere performance of Zhao Lin’s “A Happy Excursion,” Concerto for Pipa and Cello was a joyful example of teamwork for soloists @yoyoma.official and Wu Man. 🤜🤛
The program (a @nytimes ⭐️Critic’s Pick⭐️), led by @maestrolongyu, also includes Musorgsky’s Prelude to “Khovanshchina” (orchestrated by Rimsky-Korsakov) and Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony, “Pathétique.”

𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐯 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬 (part 1/21): Tsar Michael I
Mikhail’s accession brought the end of the anarchy in Russia (known as the Time of Troubles). His government reestablished order - the boyar clans dominant before that time returned to power, and the newfound influence of the Cossacks and other lower orders gradually dissipated. Forced to claim the Russian throne, his reign saw great territorial gains and fundamental change in Russian policy. Unfortunately, his reign is one of the least studied periods of Russian history.
He was the founder of the Romanov Dynasty that would rule Russia for the next three centuries, only to dramatically end in 1917.

Happy Summer! ☀️ The Young New Yorkers for the Philharmonic celebrated at their Summer Benefit at a private New York City club last month. Sarah Jane Gibbons, Chair of the Young New Yorkers for the Philharmonic, welcomed guests who enjoyed a chamber music performance by Philharmonic musicians: violinists Michelle Kim and Qianqian Li, violist Hung-Wei Huang, and cellists Eric Bartlett and Nathan Vickery. After the performance guests enjoyed a seated dinner and dancing.
Proceeds from the event help support the Philharmonic’s educational and public programs.

“What a truly wonderful week performing Dvořák Symphony No. 8 under Maestro Herbert Blomstedt!! 91 years young!! So inspiring: his deep love, passion and energy for music! When we, NY Phil cellists, took this photo, he started singing the opening of Dvořák 8! 😂” — cellist Alexei Yupanqui Gonzales
