the more I see evidence of the absolute GARBAGE some people in this fanbase have to say about Taylor, to the point she has to say something and put her own fans in their place with greater and greater frequency, the more I absolutely cannot wait for Eras / re-records to be over so that all of this stops and these bandwagon fans get tf lost, and I really hate that I feel that way about something that's been so magical

I find it a bit...odd and off that zoomers have apparently fixated in on Taylor Swift as the "queen of capitalism" and are laundering all their "leftist" critique through criticism of her music.
I mean, the bottom line is dislike or or like her music, Swift is objectively less of a capitalist than many of her peers---she doesn't have any companies outside of her production company and I think merch. Swift writes and sings all her own music and performs all her own shows. She's been wildly successful under a capitalist system, but she herself is not really a good example a fat cat capitalist sitting atop an empire of factories and corporations.
Swift is actually a bit unique in that her wealth comes almost entirely from her catalogue and her tour revenues---again, things she personally has a hand in creating. Springsteen is the other big name in that category. Compare the Carters, who have clothing and liquor companies, or Jessica Simpson with her clothing and shoe line, or Rihanna with Fenty beauty, so on and so forth.
And of course, none of these musicians hold a candle to the actually extraordinarily powerful capitalists who control the flow of capital through the world's finance centers, approximately zero of whom put on a glittery catsuit and strut down a stage every night. Chances are you don't even know their names.
Anyway it's just annoying. It's laundering being a hater as leftism and makes for some bad economic commentary

Anyone that didnt understand that commenting on a terror threat with a still ongoing tour would be super dangerous is just not smart enough to comment on this kind of stuff in the first place

I just feel like not a DAY goes by that Taylor doesn’t regret mentioning leaving easter eggs during that one interview pre lover because what she was talking about was obvious hints like giant neon lover signs meanwhile we have lover house theories going for 5 years we have people counting days between outfits and looking at finger movements or use of emojis the way this has spiralled out of control (thanks to tiktok) is crazy

STOP WITH THE BROADWAY MOVIE ADAPTATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOW HARD IS IT TO WRITE AN ORIGINAL GODDAMN MUSICAL????????
ACTUALLY HOW HARD IS IT TO HIRE ACTUAL MUSICAL THEATER WRITERS INSTEAD OF THE SAME AGING ROCK STARS OVER AND OVER AGAIN????
BROADWAY HAS GOTTEN SO FUCKING BORING!!!!!! AND PEOPLE STILL THINK IT’S THE PINNACLE OF LIVE THEATRE!
GO SUPPORT YOUR REGIONAL THEATERS! WHO DO NEW WORK AND ARE NON-PROFITS AND STILL STRUGGLING AFTER COVID! BROADWAY IS OWNED BY THREE RICH WHITE MEN. STOP ATTENDING THESE HALF ASSED ATTEMPTS AT ART. MAKE THEM TRY HARDER!
And yes I know they’re not ALL BAD. I like some musical adaptations. But not as much as I’ve liked the more original ones. And I’m not hating on the hardworking actors who do these shows. A job is a job. But I’ve also witnessed the quality of material they’re given and I sure they’d prefer to do better shows.

the rise in violence and threats of violence against taylor and her fans is so terrifying and disturbing. the hate that get parroted online towards swifties and jokes about eradicating them stems from a deep seeded hatred of women and girls and their interests and i wish people would stop feeding into it because it has real life implications

three little girls murdered when attending a taylor swift themed dancing event - stalkers attending and being arrested at the german shows - three cancelled shows due to bomb threats - all this in under a month. do the ppl bitching and moaning about what she does or doesn’t do realize how dangerous touring is? it’s giving out where you’ll be at what time. especially now when terrorists are now aiming for the fans.

I am going to say something that might piss people on this site off, and that is that the stabbing at a Taylor Swift themed event in Southport does not exist in a vacuum.
It exists in a world where a joke about bringing a nail gun to the Eras tour to shoot fans gets 400k likes on TikTok, or where a reel about crashing a plane full of Swifties gets 200k likes on Instagram. It exists in a world where, on this very website, the one that promotes itself as rational and reasonable, someone says that "Taylor Swift and her fans should all die violent horrible deaths" and people applauded it. It exists in a world where, during TTPD release week men were in Swifties' comment sections declaring they would beat their daughters and girlfriends if they ever so much as listened to one of her albums. And it exists in a world where this week, fans of a TV show (which I will not name because that is not the point) sent death threats to a girl on Twitter for daring to be a fan of both their beloved show and Taylor Swift.
I don't give a fuck what your opinion of Taylor Swift is. I don't care if you think her music is grating, I don't care if you think she is the worst thing to happen to humanity since Eve ate the god damn apple. This is the dark side of stan culture that no-one talks about; where dislike of an artist becomes so obsessive that it becomes normal, even funny, to joke about killing their fans, because "it's just online, it's just a joke". It isn't. It is rarely ever "just online".
And yes I am going to be That Person and say that you can complain about Swift's brand of feminism and debate her position as a feminist icon all day long, at the end of the day, her name is still synonymous with girls. It doesn't take a genius to work out who this event was geared at.
I am not going to sit and claim that by simply not liking Taylor Swift you directly caused this. I would encourage you to step back, look at the bigger picture of stan culture, including obsessive dislike of an artist, and ask yourself how much this culture has enabled this. If making jokes on tiktok about killing someone over a pop star is normalised, how much of a leap is it to attacking kids with a knife at a fan event?
and of course there is the fact that the british media didn't even wait until those kids were buried before using this event to spread their racist, anti-immigrant agenda despite the race of the attacker not being known. all I can say to that is I am sickened and disappointed but not shocked.
