A Name, in Three Parts
1.
Call me Ophelia - she
Who lost her love, her shelter
And herself, who’d cut the stars
From night’s embrace to have
Some company, who’d split her
Bones to find a heartbeat there
- Who grasps the lilacs growing
Beneath her fingernils for Hope,
And buries them in the embers of the
River. She will not die for others’ hate.
2.
Call me Orpheus - he
Who wept and set the gound aflame,
Who’d burn like a heretic, and
Come out singing. You daren’t
Look back, or all is lost to
Those eternities like blisters on
Your soul. You reach for earth, alone,
And press wet kisses to
The ground - proof of your own
Existance, dripping out like dawn.
3.
Call me Origin - myself and
Myself only, scarred and wondering
And wandering through some half-dreams
To find a passionate stability
- I shall begin myself again each day,
In lightning-bronze so new,
Which greens to copper. I’ll clasp mine
Own hands, palm to palm
And shivering with life.
