A case study: Keeping a straight face

If you blink your eyes, you might miss it, but here’s what happened:

While explaining how you lovingly caress someone’s neck on a date, Link casually turns to Rhett, leans over, and reaches his arm behind Rhett’s back:

The next second, you see Link’s fingers on the other side of Rhett’s neck.

Link’s hand returns almost instantly. He doesn’t miss a beat, just keeps telling his story as if nothing happened. The only sign of him knowing exactly what he just did is the slight smirk on his face.

Rhett on the other hand is internally freaking out, because his best friend just lovingly caressed his neck:

He knows Link is teasing him, but he really wants to look at Link and smile, because it felt kinda nice.

But they’re on tv, and this was not agreed upon ahead of time. Link is so going to hear about this afterwards. No public signs of affection. But also, Link just LOVINGLY TOUCHED HIS NECK!

Is this still going on? Was Rhett supposed to say something at this point? Crap, he just looked at the camera, and now he should probably say something. But LINK CARESSED HIS NECK!!! …what?

If Rhett just acts cool, no-one’s gonna know that he still feels a tingle in his neck. Link’s still talking. Maybe the punchline hasn’t come yet. I’ll just act as if I know what he’s talking about, and everything will be fine.

…”Link, I think you have a ringworm!…”

Okay, now he gets it! Now we laugh. Think about the ringworm, laugh, keep a straight face. Nothing happened. Link didn’t just lovingly caress his neck.

Phew! That was a close call.
