So usually the first step is processing what happened, I like to color while doing this but you can also journal or play a calm video game or anything that's relaxing.

After you've accepted the situation my biggest tip is to avoid thinking about them as much as possible. For example, when you start to drift into missing them, do something that requires a lot of focus to take your mind away from it.
