First date with Nozel

You paced around your room, rubbing your hands together in an effort tot swipe off some of the sweat. But it proved to be in vain. You had been supplied a few outfits from which to choose from, ones that were fit for royalty. It wasn’t that you minded. After all, you were going on a date with a member of a royal family. And especially since this was your first date, you saw it best look the part.

He had told you that you’d be going out to a restaurant, and upon inquiring which restaurant in particular, you felt as if air was knocked out of you. Because the way Nozel had stated the name, was similar to the way you talked about the local tavern, but the restaurant was in fact the most esteemed, and expensive, in all of Clover Kingdom. And you suspected that it would be filled with nobility, eager to pay close attention to your table manners and every single little mistake you’d make.

There was a knock on your door, and you hasted to open it, only to have your heart skip a beat as you saw Nozel on the other side, looking his best. Not that he ever looked particularly bad, but there was something in his formal attire that made you weak in the knees. It was as if strength would have spilled from you onto the floor, trying to take you down with it. And the word he uttered after looking up and down you, didn’t help you: “Splendid”. But what almost killed you, was the small, barely noticeable smile that curled up to his lips.

He offered you to take him by the arm, and so you did. And had your head not been in the clouds as a result, you would have been grateful, because you could feel the trembling of your legs growing stronger. Holding onto him, it felt natural, it felt right, it felt as if it was the only thing you’d need at that moment, it was the only thing that made sense to you at that moment.

But as you arrived to the entrance of the restaurant, you could feel your nervousness climbing to your throat. So, you tried to prepare yourself, the best you could, to the idea that everyone you’d pass, everyone that would surround you, would take notice of you, and keep looking at you like a hawk. After all, walking in with your arm linked with Nozel’s would surely turn heads. All those eyes would surely drill into you with envy and the intention to make you fall from the supposed pedestal you were on while being on a date with him.

You swallowed and held your head high, because you weren’t about to give all those inside the satisfaction of seeing you walk in as a humble image of yourself, something meek and timid. No. You walked in as who you were; as the person you had made yourself to be with your own strength. You had achieved so much already, and had done it by yourself. And you wouldn’t let people put you down by saying something along the lines of you just climbing the ranks this way. Oh no. You really liked Nozel. Perhaps, in the quiet whispers in the back of your head, barely spoken even to yourself because the admission scared you, loved him.

So, you walked in. But saw no one. Other than staff.

You looked around in confusion, wondering if you should ask about it, but luckily Nozel explained before you could utter out your question.

“I thought that we’d have a chance to get better acquainted if we had some privacy. So, I booked the entire restaurant for a private date.”

Wow… He’s really showing off his funds… but… it’s a sweet thought…

You smiled to him, your gratitude and astonishment seeping through the smile that was painted over your lips.  “That’s sweet…” you uttered with delicate syllables, and though he tried to brush it off, you could see a hint of red rising just on top of his cheek bones.

By the window, there was a single table, on which was a lit candle. And around it stood too many flowers to count, a sea of roses accompanied by other flowers and greenery that complimented the red flowers which spoke of passion. A faint sound of violin echoes around in the air as you approached the table.

“I really wanted to make it a magical evening…” he whispered with shaking syllables. It was almost as if he was laying his heart bare before you, and he was terrified of it. He was scared, too scared to say, of you just turning around and leaving him. And it was, in that quiet, barely audible voice of his, that you sensed something, a deep, deep ocean of emotions. And you found yourself being pulled in.

“All I need is you,” you answered, as if to share a secret with him in turn. But that secret was true.
