Exit Essay

      LTFRB should not interfere with the operations of private companies like Uber and Grab. We live in a country where safety is something we thrive for because we do not know what goes through the minds of the people anymore and for most of us Filipinos, we prefer these private companies because its safer or more secure. Taxi’s today tend to decline passengers simply because the destination is too far but when they actually accept rides they will charge extra and casually ask to just simply add extra from the original fare. Whereas in companies like Uber and Grab, the price is set and they could not, would not, and should not ask for extra fare.

      Taxis and the private companies opposing it are of different sectors this is why LTFRB should not interfere. LTFRB is stating that they add up to the traffic, but it is not only Uber and Grab that add to the traffic, it is every other way of transportation. The problem should be addressed by improving the public transportations like the trains, buses, etc. because a country and its citizens need efficient modes of transportation to be successful. Examples of this is evident to other countries like Japan, in Japan the people prefer the trains because it’s efficient. In our country, the people prefer Uber/Grab and removing these companies is like removing the trains of the Japanese. The excuse wherein they are going to use the “sa panahon namin walang ganyan” card is not valid because times are changing. The technology is better and smarter, traffic is worse, and people are not all good. Humans have to learn how to adapt. The country will not progress if the people are not willing to accept change.

      in conclusion, LTFRB should not interfere with the private companies because they are in separate sectors and they should respect that. Instead of tackling one of the factors to one problem, why not improve the system so that they (public transportations) will be trusted more and be used to lessen the problem on traffic. People actually prefer private cars since its more secure than the public transportations and in these public transportations a lot of things happen like theft and alike. The people prefer Uber/Grab and that gives a statement that taxis are the problem and LTFRB should should fix it.

People take their image seriously because to them it is the first thing people they come across notice. They protect their image with high security because it acts as their reputation. A type of image people take seriously is their body image. Society today created standards on the body image of a person. People would actually do anything to change their natural body to transform into something that would make them accepted in today’s society.

One thing people do is to gym, they gym because they want to change how their body looks and be part of the “fit” ones. Being fit today is a big advantage because a lot of people will be attracted to the person if they are fit. Another way people go through to change their body image is the process of surgery. Surgery is an expensive process people go through but will certainly change a lot about the person’s body image.

Despite all the pressure of trying to fit into society’s standards, the people should all learn how to love themselves. If they can not love their own self, who else will. Spending money to change their body image is not always the best thing to do because everyone is unique in their own ways and we should not change ourselves to be able to be accepted by the people around us.

IT’S MORPHIN’ TIME !!!

Each Power Ranger has their individual set of skills to fight their opponents but when it seems like the Power Rangers are getting weak while their adversary is getting stronger and bigger, the Power Rangers combine together to be able to defeat their adversary. This shows how working together is stronger than individuality. The power of togetherness can overcome even the biggest challenges put upon the people.

One of the best examples for togetherness overcoming a hard challenge was back in 1986, the EDSA People Power Revolution in The Philippines. February 25, 1986 was the day the Filipinos worked together to end the regime of the oppressive dictator; without the use of violence but with the use of the country's strong faith. The dictatorship was oppressive because of the several times the human rights were violated thus resulting to the people to revolt against the administration. This significant even shows how much power working together is much more powerful than a strong individual. Power is also commonly abused, since a leader has all the power the leader thinks they are above the people. Instead of the leader using the power they have to be able to serve the people; leaders misuse their power to have selfish gains so that they can be stronger while the people they are suppose to be serving are getting weaker.

In conclusion, people who hold the power to lead over a big group often misuse it when they are lead into the dark side. Misuse of power can lead to injustice and when majority of the people recognize or realize the injustice in the system, they can work together to overthrow the ones doing wrong deeds. It is an unbreakable power when people come together to reach a certain goal because of the power of togetherness. With that, it just comes to show that with the power of togetherness, there is nothing that is impossible to overcome.

Race for the ages

7 continents. 195 countries. 7.6 billion people. With this many people who live in this world, humans want to identify themselves differently from others. Humans each have their own physical characteristics which categorizes humans in different types of races. Due to the differences, it leads to discrimination from all around the world. 

 Discrimination is the unjust treatment of different categories such as race, religion, culture and the like. This has been a problem humans have been facing since the 15th century. Despite it being a very old problem, humans still have not found a proper solution in order for the problems regarding discrimination to fully eradicate in order for equality to prosper. In the concept of racial discrimination, it can be said that in the modern world today, this is still very evident and controversial that badly affects different societies. This can be an avenue to additional problems for different countries and degrades the rights of the people. Secondly, Racial discrimination may also lead to economical disability. Employers often possess a racist view in hiring workers. If these personalities only employ those with a more superior color and race, then jobs would not be equally distributed which will lead to a economical disability. Furthermore, human resource would not be maximize in a racial society. Not all will be given a chance to contribute which can also degrade their own communities. Lastly, Racial Discrimination affects the family, self esteem and mental health of individuals. An example of this is the racist view on Black Americans. People often view them as disgraces to the society today solely because of their color. These discrimination against them can result to the abuse towards their families, lower their self esteem and affect their mental health due to the fact that they are not accepted in the world that is present.

In conclusion, it is evident the discrimination is still evident in our society today.  It can lead to more problems for different countries, it can also lead to economical disability and discrimination affects family, self esteem and mental health of individuals. Humans need to find a way to solve it because it does not just affect the one part of society but it affects the society as a whole.

Soundtrack: the track to the mind.

Music can change the mood and tone of scene in a film. (Renée, 2016). The soundtrack will always be there in a movie, it will never be absent. Music is a very powerful factor in a film because it can help move the scene in ways we won’t even notice. There are movies that use music heavily, movies like “Ang Nawawala” a film by Marie Jamora, “Guardians of the Galaxy” a film by James Gunn, “Pulp Fiction” a film by Quentin Tarantino and “Submarine” a film by Richard Ayoade are known to use music a lot of times throughout the whole movie.

Music is where the movie “Ang Nawawala” keeps going back to, key scenes in the movie has music, not just in the background but it is actually emphasised to the point that it is like the audience is listening to the soundtrack with the characters in the movie, they got to make the audience feel this way because once the Gibson drops the needle on the vinyl or wears headphones, it is like we are put on the same shoes as him.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 uses music to help aid the storytelling of the film, for example when Starlord receives his new mp3 player and the first song playing is “Father and Son” by Cat Sevens it made Starlord realize that Yondu was his Father figure, although it did not seem like it, Yondu taught Starlord more than anyone ever could.

Pulp Fiction on the other hand had such a diverse soundtrack, from songs you'd listen to in a road trip going to the beach to songs you'd listen to on parties, the music of the film helped make the already colorful movie into a more vibrant movie. Pulp Fiction used music to make the cinematic sequences more dramatic and/or violent.

Submarine is another movie that used movies to fully set the mood of the scene or even the whole movie itself. Without the soundtrack, the film Submarine would be dry and emotionless, basically dead, but the soundtrack changed the overall tone of the film. When Oliver made the montage of video clips for Jordana, the whole scene was aided with the soundtrack which gave the scene more impact on the audience.

These films all used their own soundtracks to their own advantages. That just proves how much music can change the mood and tone of the film. It's a powerful factor for a film because it can make the audience feel things unconsciously. Music can make the audience watching feel emotional. Whether the music helps tell the story, set the mood, gives color and personality to the scene, or give an impact to the audience, it just shows how the soundtrack is one of the most important factors a film needs, the soundtrack is so powerful that it can make or break the film.

Masters of laughter

Comedians have their own unique style of portraying a story and entertaining people. Of course their main goal is to make the audience laugh but others try to do more than just make their audience laugh, they make others aware of current issues and problems the society is facing. Some try to make their jokes relatable to the people because more people find jokes funny when they can relate to it.

Bo Burnham and Bert Kreischer are both very good entertainers. Both of them can make their audiences die of laughter with a story because they are both skilled. They can make the audience laugh differently because of their own unique style.

Bert Kreischer’s style is by using his life experiences to make his audience laugh for example the time he told his story how he got the nickname “The Machine”. Just like other stand up comedians, they will tell a very funny story and deliver the story in such a way that will make the audience laugh. This style is straight to the point which usually gets the job done. Just like Bert Kreischer, stand up comedians go from one story to another each trying to get the audience's attention and make them laugh. Bert also does not tackle issues in the society in his shows, he usually only keeps it within his own experiences. Comedians usually do this to avoid controversy because of the sensitivity of the issues from around the world.

On the other hand, Bo Burnham’s style in his 2016 show “Make Happy” was not the typical storytelling way. Bo Burnham mainly made relatable jokes in his show. Also, instead of storytelling, he used music and sarcasm to portray the different problems of society. Bo Burnham found a way to entertain and inform or make people aware without making it serious and/or dark. He also does not stick on a topic for a very long time, aside from the musical numbers, he will shift segments dramatically which keeps the audiences entertained since it is not too long that the audience start to get bored and lose interest. In his show “Make Happy” even though he talked about various issues and stereotypes he avoided controversy by using sarcasm (for example the “Kill Yourself” song).

Based on the comparison, it is evident that Bo Burnham’s unique technique is unorthodox while Bert Kreischer’s technique is the typical way of stand up comedy. Bo Burnham tackled more serious issues but you would not see Bert Kreischer do that because he talks about his life stories. Despite the differences, Bert and Bo each have the same main goal, and that is to entertain and also make their audience laugh. Just like in the real world people have different ways to achieve a single goal. But again, it will not matter once everyone gets a good laugh.

The Beautiful Game

Football, known to many as “such a boring and uneventful game”. To the ones who said so, they clearly have not lived it. From the different pregame rituals to postgame heartbreaks and triumphs, those who lived the game will understand why this sport is called “The Beautiful Game”.

Football showcases the beautiful sight of different cultures and color. Who knew football could bring people from all over the world in one place to celebrate the sport? Football is an international language that everyone understands despite the difference language and culture.

The beauty of teamwork. 22 (11 on each side) players on the field and only one ball. When the team would do anything to achieve the simple but not-so simple task of putting the ball in the net is a beautiful thing to watch. Watching players get out of tight and though spots is also a sight not to be missed.

Football is filled with skills and players ruining other players careers with a single trick. One thing that also makes Football a beauty to watch is when players gracefully execute skills with such composure. When the players make everything slow down and keep the crowd at awe, that is one of the reasons why football is beautiful. For those who say this sport is boring and uneventful - live it before you judge it.

The first time I saw ENGLCOM in my EAF, I thought it would be an easy “win” but I slowly realized that with the lack of focus and/or determination, I can easily take a loss.  Just like the video, Leicester could have won the playoff match with a simple penalty kick. However, with the lack of focus and the inability to overcome pressure, the player missed the kick which resulted to an almost perfect counter attack that lead to the other team to score and win the match. This is relatable to my situation right now because if I relax, lose focus & determination I can easily fail this subject. Keeping the grind for that ‘quatro’ and the mindset of success will help obtain achievements in life like passing ENGLCOM and experience the ecstasy the Watford team and Fans felt when the team won the playoff match.
