Frode got several scars in the attack that resulted in her husband and two of her children getting killed, but escaped very much unharmed in comparison. But, she happened to be in Helgen when Alduin returned and did survive but got severely injured due a stray beam of wood collapsing on her, which has left her with a damaged right hip and leg. With the intensity of the whole situation, she was able to get it mostly healed but without her daughter's immediate skill and help, she does now have to use a walking stick to get around.
