10 Useful Windows Apps & Software
hey guys this is the patient b-bomb comm and today I'm going to show you some really useful apps and software for Windows that you're going to love but before we get started let me tell you that this video has been sponsored by ice cream PDF editor which is a free and easy to use PDF editing software I'll talk more about ice cream PDF editor at the end of this video so stay tuned for that now let's check out some great apps and software for window an ability to preview files but just using the space button Mac OS is something that I've always wanted on my Windows PC well the free QuickLook app brings exactly that it's a pretty simple app that just enables a quick preview of files using the space bar it's so easy and so handy I can just preview any file easily and I can keep pressing the down arrow to preview all the files in a folder really quickly there are no additional tools here but the preview window has an option to open the file in one of the apps you use so you can do that if you want to identify it so yeah a quick look is a fairly simple app but if you want more control with the quick look feature you can check out the seer Pro app available it will be 670 on the Windows Store Windows 10 search is pretty decent but I don't blame you if you don't find it very powerful and that's where the ule app is so handy you really brings unlaunchable windows which is very similar to spotlight or alfred on mac so basically you can just press Alt + space to open up the yulie launcher and then quickly launch apps files search for files or search for something online new calculations and a lot more it's very powerful and it's customizable do you can customize the look of the launcher and you can create custom shortcuts plus it's all free so what's not like last year Microsoft announced a new sets feature for Windows which would let you use multiple apps as tabs in a single window but that's delayed and well grupe is an app that brings a similar feature to Windows the app lets you use different apps and software in the same window in browser like tab style so as you can see I have Firefox in one tab fast own image viewer in one and the file explorer in another it's super handy and if you're worried that multiple browser travel ruined don't worry has groupie groups tabs from a single app like the browser into a single collection yes groupie is pretty awesome and it has a range of customisation options which a lot of you will like it's available in a free trial for 30 days after which you'll have to pay five dollars for the full version accessing your emails your whatsapp messages your Facebook messages your SMS is all from your PC can be quite a task well into France a super cool app that lets you access all of these in one unified interface yeah with France you can just add the services you use and as you can see there are lot of them to choose from and that's it now you can just log in with your accounts and start using everything in a single app and it's not just handy for different services I personally like to use it to access my two gmail accounts because we all know that accessing your different Gmail accounts from the browser can be a lot of pain so yeah it's definitely a very useful Windows app plus it's free so yeah it's awesome we understand now includes a pretty handy screenshot tool but if you ask me it just does not come close to share X a screenshot and screen recorder tool that's lightweight but packed with features first of all which share X you can take different types of screenshots me the usual screenshots the screenshot of a region the app window a scrolling screenshot or even set things to auto capture plus what I like is I can set actions for when the screenshot is captured so I can set share X to automatically save the screenshot upload it to a host like Google Photos and open the editing tool it's really powerful and it even lets you record your screen in the usual vampy 4 format or you can create a Jeff if you want when share X is a free tool that has you covered on all fronts so check it out almost all of us have used WinRAR and you've got annoyed with those trial expired power bucks right when it's time to switch to P zip which is a free compression tool that is feature packed most importantly lets you open almost all type of compression file formats out there and it lets you create archives in almost all the format's out there please if not only lets you create encrypted archives you can even create file archives with two-factor authentication apart from that they're all the features you can expect from a compression tool like the we need to split and join archives building file manager secure deletion of files and more if you want to laptop with 128 GB SSD or even 256 GB SSD you must have faced low storage issues well there are times when you don't have an idea what is taking up so much of a storage well check out mystery a super useful software that finds the files and folders using the most disk space on your hard drive it's simple open the tool select the drive and click on scan after which the tool shows you a visual map of your files so that you can start the large files with ease as you can see these video files are taking up the most space on my laptop and I had no idea about them I think they are from a different user account so yeah mystery is definitely handy plus it's a free software so check it out next up we have converter bot and this is for people who are tired of installing new apps to open up different files or cut for different files it's a handy little app that supports more than 300 file types so you can preview any file you want and convert them to a file type you want so let's say you have a PDF file you can just load it up and convert it into a PNG or jpg let me give you another example here's a word file so you can easily convert it to PDF jpg PNG text file and more overall converter pod is a super handy free tool to have on your Windows PC to be honest Windows 10 is volume control is not the best I mean sure you can find all the options buried inside but it's not very intuitive well if you feel the same you should check out ear trumpet which is a really powerful volume control app the app lets you control volumes of individual apps beat classic apps or absolute window store and while that is something people will definitely find handy I like the ability to quickly switch between default audio devices and the ability to move apps between playback devices so I can set a music app to play on the speaker while setting the sound of the game I'm playing to my earphones get the idea anyway ear trumpet is available for free on the Windows Store so check it out Windows 10 has support for a few multi-touch gestures but what if you want more well multi swipe lets you create your very own two finger three finger or even four finger gestures for the touchpad and the touchscreen I created a few handy touch by gestures from a laptop and they work really well so I've set two finger swipe up and swipe down to increase and decrease the volume it's so handy I've also said tip tap gestures to quickly switch between tabs in the browser in my uses two finger gestures work the best but you can always try out other ones also if you're wondering multi swipe is said to work with more synaptic sail and take or precision touchpad so yeah it should work fine on most laptops multi site is available for a free trial of fifteen days after which you'll have to get the full version at five dollars now let's talk about a sponsor's for this video ice cream PDF Editor is an easy to use PDF editor with all the features you need the software lets you edit PDF files with these you can edit objects and images annotate with text highlight areas add sticky notes and do a lot more plus doing all this is really intuitive here since there's drag-and-drop support to move objects easily or pages inside a PDF file it's so handy there are a lot of other features in Ice Cream PDF editor and it's free unlike most PDF editors so what are you waiting for check it out from the link in the description or below well those are some great apps and software for Windows and you'll find the links to all of them in the description or below also a lot of you guys were asking us to switch to 18s 9 videos and 10 Free Software
beginning with this edition of the free software series and future episodes to come we'll take a look the best free and open source programs for your computer in short when you see the term open source software it means that its source code is freely available for users to inspect modify and distribute the software to anyone for any reason but so many free and open source programs that are actually grade coming up I will show you ten of our personal favorites many of which you've heard me discuss previously in other videos they're all well-established trusted and completely free let's get started [Music] first up is Libre Office this office suite released in 2011 is a great alternative to Microsoft Office the Microsoft Word and Excel alternatives have improved quite a bit over the years when opening and converting those file formats included with LibreOffice is writer which has many of the same features as Microsoft Word calc is similar to excel impress can be used instead of PowerPoint draw is a vector graphics editor and math can be used to create and edit mathematical formulas LibreOffice is available for Windows Mac and Linux there are two versions available for download there's one for early adopters that want the latest features and their other one is their stable release with less bugs developed by the Mozilla Foundation way back in 2002 the open source Firefox browser is still one of the most popular browsers available it has a ton of add-ons and extensions that enhance your browsing experience you can sync between your desktop and mobile devices and includes an excellent manager for bookmarks other browsers that use variants of the Firefox source code include water Fox and the privacy and security focused tour browser the Firefox web browser is available for Windows Mac and Linux various distributions of Linux Firefox is often the default web browser next up is OBS studio released in 2012 the screen recorder is available for Windows Linux and Mac it's very popular for streaming video games and other live content recordings can also be saved to your computer to be imported into your favorite video editor if you have an older PC with low system specs you may encounter lag for most people the only true thick's for this is to upgrade your computer many users of OBS studio report that they find it to be confusing to use when starting out I'd highly recommend checking out the various tutorials available online shotcut is a great video editor for new users it was initially released in 2004 and is updated on a rig cervesas a few years ago it was the first editor I used for editing YouTube videos before switching over to Premiere Pro it includes a ton of features that are often locked behind a paywall with most free video editors including support for 4k resolutions and allows for multiple tracks on the same timeline if you've tried out other video editors shot cuts user interface may not be what you're used to for example when adding tracks to the timeline you have to click on the menu icon in the lower left then select add video track and go back in and add audio track before adding your clips on the shotcut website they include video tutorials that will teach you how to use it chalk cut is available for Windows Mac and Linux the oldest program in this video is GIMP released in 1996 this image editor is one of the best free alternatives to Photoshop before we go any further many of the free and open source programs offered depend on the donations of others for development if you'd like to donate to any project you'll often see a donate button near the top of their website with Jim it's to the right of tutorials let's move on GIMP supports layers and includes tools for retouching your photos or creating brand new images from scratch in the past year GIMP has received a major upgrade making it more useful including cosmetic changes that make it look better I personally prefer the dark theme but if you don't here's how you change the theme go to edit and select preferences go down to the interface section and select theme your choices are dark which is what I'm using right now grey light and system which is way too bright if you want to check out gimp it's available for download on Linux Mac and Windows share X is one of the best screenshot utilities ever to be created it was initially released in 2007 and at this time is only available for computers running Windows 7 or newer with so many features and ways to capture any portion of your screen it makes the new screenshot tool in the latest version of Windows 10 look pathetic it's quite simple to use just go to capture in the left pane and select your screenshot method for simple tasks you can even use chair X to record your screen otherwise you're better off using OBS studio if you select web page capture it works great to capture an entire webpage at the top just enter the URL of the webpage you'd like to capture in this example I'll just use the share X website click on capture when it's done click upload with every screen capture method at the top you have various ways save upload and mark up your images blender is a 3d computer graphics toolset released in 1998 it's been used to create animated films video games visual effects and a whole lot more some of its features include 3d modeling raster graphics editing rigging and skinning and even includes a video editor blender does have a high learning curve and the user interface will be overwhelming for first-time users so I'd recommend checking out the various tutorials on the blender website when you're getting started using it blender is available for Windows Mac and Linux if you're a programmer Adam is a source code editor with support for plugins written in nodejs and embedded get control released in 2014 it's available for Windows Linux and Mac with thousands of themes and open source packages to choose from to change the look and feel of atom it includes developer tools and with its user-friendly layout it's really easy to use especially when analyzing code it's a definite step up from the standard notepad unlike most of its competitors it's truly open-source the VLC media player has been around since 2001 and will play just about any audio or video file format it's available on all major platforms including apps for both Android and iOS its user interface has been described by many people as being clunky when compared to other media players but at least it's ad free has no spyware and just works great once you get used to it VirtualBox released in 2007 allows you to create and manage guest virtual machines running other operating systems on your computer setup can be confusing for new users that's why I created a beginner's guide on this channel using the Linux distro Ubuntu as an example you can install other operating systems using the same steps just adjust the memory and CPU as needed if you experience any issues especially on older pcs you may need to go into your BIOS and enable virtualization VirtualBox is available for download on Windows Linux and Mac thanks for watching all links are in the description if this video is useful for you give it a thumbs up and share with others what is your favorite free and open source software let us know about it in the comments and if you
