my two main thoughts whenever I think of han solo:

God is Harisson Ford hot.

God is Han Solo the most damsel in distress to ever damsel. That looks nothing like a damsel. Like they took that male playboy ruffian trope and threw it out the window when it came to him didn't they? I love that the princess and the gay space twink are the main heroes of this trio and Han is just some hot guy with a cool ship that they accidentally kidnapped and never let go. He is basically their eye candy.

That's the way it is.

Among prequel fans, Han is such an underrated great character. He's selfish & selfless, scared & brave, lonely & he has so many friends. He really completely turns his life around and finds a family in the Skywalkers (who have SO many family members) after having no family except for Chewie almost all his life.

There's a really good monologue Han has in the ROTJ novelization where he rallies the Ewoks by telling them how important having friends is.

Han really loves Leia & Luke so much more than he lets on. He acts like he's so cool, but he's really a good guy who was scared that Leia wouldn't miss him or give him a reason to stay when he was leaving Hoth.

I love how we think of him as so cool, but it's all an act, really. He is much more sentimental and touchy-feely than he lets on.

Han, more than anyone else in the original trilogy, is who finds a found family.

finally complete!! ok so i used this prompt to fill out a larger fic id been working on, so here is an excerpt from the piece the prompt inspired, but with a link to the larger fic. takes place in the years between ANH and ESB. enjoy!

Father liked the cold.

“Gettin’ real tired of running into friends of his,” Han says, glaring across the clearing at their unfortunate new ward. 

Smoke from their campfire curls up into the trees. It’s still cold here, which is angering Leia. She’s tired of all this damned cold. And her meiloorun, the one at the bottom of the sack they bartered for before rendezvous, is rotten in the middle.

“Renchu is not a friend,” Leia says, stiffer than her sticky knuckles. They’ve swollen in the hours after she punched the man and are stained with fruit juice. Their imprint sings from under the slushy bacta pack their sullen informant had pressed into his eye for an hour before falling asleep. He’s too still now for her to believe he’s not listening. 

“Yeah, got that loud and clear,” Han mutters. He’s bent over her and his voice tickles her ear. It’s so Kyl Renchu, Alderaanian survivor and anonymous Rebel informant, who met them with his insider information in a seedy alley in a corner of this forested little Rim moon, does not hear them. Also to be close to her – just a little. They’ve still got half a day’s march ‘til they get back to the Falcon. Han has been oddly protective lately (read: this afternoon). Leia accepts this in a way she would not have a year ago. “You okay?”

Leia is not the one with a black eye.

“No, but you’ve got that look in ‘em.”

“Even the good guys were politically divided,” Leia deadpans, bitter-tongued. “Or has my idealism infected you, Captain?”
