One difference between book Louis and show Louis that I love is that he’s actually very knowledgeable about design and fashion. You can see from his interaction with the lawyer that he knows about architecture, and he obviously redecorated the Azalea (and Lestat). He knows about chiffon, he notices fashion trends, and his darkest days were having to traverse Europe in a filthy coat and with unkempt hair (and yes also the trauma).

Book Louis happily sat in a filthy shack collecting dust and cobwebs. Show Louis could never live like that.
