This is probably the least notable thing about the whole fic, but going through Blood Raining Night again has made me realize how many bird smilies there are in the story. Obviously a lot of them talk about birds in motion (whether flying or falling lol), but a good handful of them talk about how cute they are, how soft they are, or saying that characters chirp like them.

It’s interesting to me because the central character is a cat girl whose catchphrase is “Nyan-on!”. Makes you wonder why there wasn’t a conscious effort to include more cat smilies… although that would make the story more like My Inner Life… but that’s also not a bad thing because My Inner Life is up there with Forbiden Fruit for me in terms of the best bad fics lol.

I was curious about how many bird similes (side note, I figure autocorrect got you but I love that this message says "bird smilies" lol, good mental image) there actually are in the story, so I did a quick check and I counted seven of them. That maybe doesn't sound like a ton of bird similes for a story with 30 chapters and over 30,000 words, but the first one isn't until chapter twelve, so it's like the author suddenly discovered birds exist midway through writing this and then couldn't stop comparing things to them. For reference, I only counted one cat simile in the entire story.

It does sort of almost feel like it's about something, right? Like, maybe Reicheru is constantly comparing things to birds because she's a catgirl and cats are known to fixate on birds? I'm not sure it's on purpose (if it was on purpose I think the story might have tried harder to draw attention to it) but it is a funny observation!

I recently tried to re-listen to your Dirty Laundry episodes, but the fic’s content is so boring that I just went back to the Blood Raining Night readings. I’m kind of surprised Dirty Laundry actually got that big in the first place because of that. It doesn’t have any big stuff happen until like halfway through. There’s no sex. And most of the main Voltron cast is absent.

I guess young people at the height of a fandom would be into it, but for me personally it’s such a dull fic.

Yeah, I can see where you're coming from — from the perspective of someone cohosting a podcast where we tore into Dirty Laundry I think it was one of the more interesting fics we covered, just in terms of how much material we had to talk about / how many issues we had with the story, but if I were sincerely into Voltron/Klance I'd think the entire fic was a letdown. I guess I should also acknowledge that I wouldn't read a low-stakes mundane AU story about characters who originally existed in a high-stakes setting because that on its face is boring to me, and there are some people who are into that kind of thing, but even so... it's just not well done. Keith and Lance are so out of character and their relationship with each other is so poorly handled it's tough to see the appeal.

With regards to the latest episode, during the Christmas Carol parody: I'm pretty sure that there being two Marleys is to establish that the author-character's only familiarity with the story is through the Muppet adaptation, where the role of Marley is fulfilled by Statler and Waldorf. This also lines up with it being a musical. Have a good day, and thank you for exposing me to things I would never have read myself!

oh my gosh that explains why none of the lines match up with the Alan Menken musical version. I just tried to sing along to the tune of the songs from that version because that's the version I'm familiar with. but it being the Muppet version makes it even funnier lmao.

Just yesterday (October 31st 2024 as of the time of writing this) there was a new Death Note game announced haha. The graphics don’t look super good to be honest, but they went for a sort of—I guess Among Us-esque gameplay thing? Dunno if I’d spend money on it, but it looks sorta fun. And I think it’s a fun coincidence since the podcast has been covering Death Note. What do y’all think of it?

Neither of us play/enjoy multiplayer games so we're admittedly biased against this anyway, but Shiv's comment was "it looks like shit" and I think I have to echo that. I get what the art style is going for with making everyone into little chibified dolls/figures but imo it just looks cheap and ugly. In fairness, "social deduction game based on Death Note" definitely has potential as an idea so I could see this being worthwhile if you enjoy those kinds of games and the graphics don't bother you. Shoutout to the one person in the comments section who said they thought this was going to be a visual novel at first, I wish they had been right

hey guys, Siobhan here. we didn't get episode 52 up on Saturday as you can see, so it's been delayed to the next. when we first started this podcast, we both worked part-time/inconsistent jobs but now we work full time (with me having a second job at home as my grandma's full-time caregiver). it's been increasingly difficult to get episodes up as much as we'd like, even biweekly, especially since in my profession I'm around children who get me sick a lot. this will hopefully improve with time since my immune system will get used to it, but for now we just feel bad about promising episodes at a rate we can't always guarantee. so for now, our official upload rate is going to be at least once per month BUT if we can, record two per month like before, we're going to. hopefully in the future we will be able to be more consistently biweekly, and we'll let you know if the situation changes. so for now, expect 1-2 episodes per month, or triweekly.

episode 52 will be up September 7 and will introduce Dark's secret sister, Night Yagami!
