Centaurs and Mermaids….
So guys, bit of a different type of post today as I’m pretty sure these guys don’t need much more promotion! I’ve recently been listening to a lot of Coheed & Cambria and I want to try and explore the meaning of their video for ‘The Suffering’. The video starts with a sneaky little peak at frontman Claudio Sanchez doing his thing and then you see a man looking into a glowing crystal. The shot alternate between this man and C&C playing in a cave. Hmm. You then see that the man is watching mermaids through the crystal. More shots of the band in the cave, Claudio’s got this mischievous smile on his face and then the man from before steps into the cave and turns out to be a centaur! The video continues to alternate between the band and the centaurs’ story and you learn he loves one of the mermaids. Back in the cave with his crystal he sees her captured by a giant squid and rushes to her rescue. The last of the video is a strange shot of him holding her; horse legs, tail, but two human bodies. To me there was an easy understanding of the video as you see other hardships the centaur faces. The meaning was that no matter how much you have to suffer, love conquers all. Claudio writes stories with his songs. This was a lovely little love story and a strange but well-made video! hello writing work??

My first ever interview with Electric Midnight!!
Electric Midnight
A debut album, final round of Battle of the Bands and some crazy gigs later Electric Midnight are beginning to take Bristol by Storm!
“We’ve got a different vibe going on and it’s pretty good to be around”- Matt Ball
Completely unprepared for their first ever interview over Skype are two members of Electric Midnight, Kev Sellwood and Matt Ball. After working and both playing a gig last night they look tired, but they’re still overly excited to tell me about their new album and current gigs. “The gigs have been quick to come and we’ve managed to get some good venues quite early on’, guitarist Kev is quick to get out.
Founded in March 2011 by Kev and vocalist Louis Thompson, Electric Midnight’s first album ‘One’ was written in four months between them. They then recruited Matt, who sings backup vocals and plays bass; and Aaron Lloyd, their drummer, both through Gumtree. “I’m a big fan of Gumtree!’ Kev laughs. “It’s good for bands; me and Louis originally met on there.’ Recently when playing gigs Matt “feels a lot more confident, it’s totally different from previous bands. We’ve got a different vibe going on and it’s good to be around. We dance around quite a lot!”. “Yeah we have quite a lot of fun!” Kev butts in. “I don’t feel like the only idiot on stage anymore” finalises Matt.
‘One’ was released in December last year on their record label Dead Calm Music. “It’s Louis’ record label. It was just a way for us to get our album out there really quick and remain in control of it if you know what I mean” Kev manages. Yes Kev, we know what you mean! Louis started Dead Calm a few years ago but “this is the first kind of rock album released on the label, he [Louis] normally does dubstep and quite ambient music. Really for us though it’s just a vehicle to get the album out’.
Electric Midnight are on a variety of notable websites including YouTube, Facebook, and Spotify. Matt set up their YouTube channel in January and I asked how helpful it’s been in promoting them. “Really good, we got it up really quick” claims Matt. “We’ve got 1660 something views! So yeah, that’s gone really well. But a two minute video takes me about four hours to edit, it’s ridiculous!”
They both talk endlessly about the gigs they’ve played lately. “We did battle of the bands a couple of weeks ago and that was the most fun for me”. I feel Kev is about to relive an exciting moment for us… “I’d had a couple of pints of cider by the time we came on stage so I was jumping about making a bit of a dick of myself! Louis is loads of fun to play with, he jumps about like a lunatic!” It’s apparent these guys love jumping whilst on stage.
‘One’ is available to buy now on Amazon, Play and iTunes. Electric Midnight are through to the final round of Bristol’s battle of the bands which they will be playing on the 21st of March. They will also be playing at the Louisiana on the 29th April and the Cooler on the 31st of May. Also a festival slot has been promised for the 22nd July, further details are to be announced.

Reincarnation. Apex 13.
Apex 13. Wow, now there's a good band. One user from youtube described them as "Nirvana from the future" and I agree to some degree, hence the reincarnation title. Apex 13 are quite a mellow band, with catchy melodies and vocals you just want to listen to over and over. There is no info about the band on their youtube page, only clever pictures made with keyboard symbols of rockers. This suggests to me that their influences are heavier than their own music. They have 10 vids on youtube, and have been uploading since September 2011. Most of their video's are acoustic, and they have a couple of live recordings of them playing gigs. The singer has a husky voice, and I LOVE husky singers! The other 2 band members appear both to play guitar in some video's, giving more dimension and riffs. Apex 13 definately have some Nirvana-like qualities, you need to watch and listen to understand. They will go far, I don't think it can be questioned. But at the moment they only have 663 subscribers so come on people! Lets give them some love and support, they definately deserve it :)

I'm feeling static....
.... for Electric Midnight! This rock band from Bristol released their debut album 'One' in December 2011 on independant record label Dead Calm Music, and have been active youtubers since January this year. Electric Midnight is made up of 4 experienced guys and it shows in their music. Their youtube page says they are simple 'rock' but I'd say they are much more than that! They are funky, punky, and full of energy, you can hear the rock roots in all their beats. They only have 4 uploads on youtube so far, the most recent 'Hold On' being uploaded just yesterday (this is a repeat post so it was not yesterday)! I'm looking forward to more live music videos from them.Their album is available to buy on amazon now =) And for those who aren't convinced just go to their youtube page and check them out! You Won't regret it =)

Natty Holmes makes me smile =)
Like girls who can play guitar? Sing? And play the piano and ukulele? I certainly do!! Natalie Holmes is 18 years old and has already recorded her second album 'Goodmorning Sleepyhead'. She has a beautiful voice and plays a variety of instruments. The songs she has written all have soothing melodies and they all make me smile =) Her official single 'Goodmorning Sleepyhead' can be found on her youtube page (link below) and she has told me she likes to play this most off her album, but her fave song to play is 'Time Machine' and I'd say this is my favourite to listen to! She currently has 8,828 followers on youtube (but between you and me I think she deserves more!). So what do you say? Go check out Natty Holmes on youtube! Come back and leave me a comment to tell me how good my ears are ;)

'Ard as nails! ;)
The first band I want to tell you all about is from my hometown Plymouth and I don't think I'm the only one who can't keep still when they play a set! Operation ARD are a 4 piece band, influenced by rock, funk, punk, pop, acoustic and all sorts of other genres and they have been around since 2008. Op ARD have lost a member and gained a member and with each obstacle they've overcome they've come back stronger. These guys are some of my best friends so I know how serious they are about their music. They nearly have enough material for an album, so hopefully they'll get it recorded soon! They've played countless gigs around Plymouth and Bristol, and even with the smallest crowd they have a big feeling about them. My first song recommendation you should listen to if you have not heard them before is 'Will I, Won't I'. They have a few live video's up on youtube, and some nicely crafted acoustic ones.
So go!!! Check them out and come back to let me know what you think!
Thankyou please :)
