My take on the Weekend War from Steam Powered Giraffe's Lore! Nearly 450 individual frames, drawn in FireAlpaca and assembled in MS Clipchamp, about a month's worth of work-- the beginning was done awhile ago, but the bulk of this was done in the last 3-4 weeks, not counting the years the concept spent percolating in my brain!

China's faceplate was inspired by a stylized illustration of a noh mask, though that's not what it is in-universe (as noh masks are generally wood, not porcelain, afaik). Her silver plating is probably shinier than it looks here with the flat colors, not chrome but maybe closer to The Spine.

Jaime's ear stud is plain silver, it's just too small for me to color in in most pictures. He always wears the silver chain.

You can give them different clothes, but they generally both stick to the same styles-- fancy and elegant for China, casual or workwear for Jaime.

All Riker had to do was tell Skull that Scratch had been eyeing it for a while and it'd be in his room by the next night.

Good grief I’m having dark tower thoughts again

How Roland starts as the nameless, barely formed archetype of the gun fighter on a quest, the man with no name inspired figure who has very little to make you like him.

Then he starts developing and getting more three dimensional. He gets a sense of humour (albeit a little broken and rusty), he gets nobility, he gets a history that includes friends and loves and family which spills into his present. He goes from being the man who let the boy drop to a father and mentor and friend and leader.

Roland becomes so much more than a stereotype. His mythic nature becomes human.

He gains so much and loses much more and you know by the last page (if you read past King’s warning) that it will just happen again.

He breaks my heart.

Not sure if it was intentional but the strength of the colour under his eye could almost pass for a tear and I think that really makes the importance of this scene. Proof he was a man, and a kindness that even when the Tower has left him jaded it couldn't take that from him.
