Decisions... decisions...

Soo many decisions to make! Ahh! We’re nervous. We’re excited. There’s a lot to consider and many moving parts in this planning stage.
Last night, Phil and I sat down and had a conversation about Little Drifter and what we want to focus on in the short-term, meaning this month and next. Our ideas were a bit scattered, but they were there.
I decided to create a shared google folder for us to share ideas and resources. It’s a start!
As we were getting into our “what now?” questions, I could sense a tinge of fear and excitement about the whole process. “Can we really make this a reality?”, I found myself thinking. “Yes! Just keep taking baby steps,” I reassured myself.
We’ve been aiming for this goal and not knowing where to place our first step. So, as Phil always says, “Nothing starts without a conversation.”

We found ourselves mostly discussing the legalities of tiny house living. Tiny houses do exist in a legal grey area, and so we’re trying to find a path to living as legal as possible to reduce stress and also make our lives a littler easier... hopefully.
It does relate to building, parking/living, insurance, mail, social security, taxes, and more. So, really, this is our biggest hurdle with moving forward with planning at the moment.
To-Do List:
Building Location: Research local laws up near our family’s camp, our build site.
Accessory Dwelling Unit vs Recreation Vehicle: (1) Research building codes for ADU’s. (2) Research RV building codes and RV registration, if we decide to go the route of building to code as an RV.
Living + Parking: Research zoning laws and other things possible living locations (Western PA area, Murrell’s Inlet, SC area, and Asheville, NC area).

For now, we’ll focus on what we can do. Research, getting a feel for our build site and continuing with our financial goals of paying off debt and saving!
If you have any insight on the issues we’re facing, we’d love to hear from you. We can use all the help we can get! And if you made it this far, thank you for taking the time to check out where we’re at in our journey and supporting us.
Thank youuuu!
Til next time,
Corey + Phil Kaplan

Oh. Hello there!
Let me introduce us. We’re Corey & Phillip Kaplan from Pittsburgh, PA, and we’re beginning our exciting journey of planning, building and living in a tiny house on wheels! Yeah, we’re doing it... we’re finally making it a reality.
It’s been one of those things that we’ve dreamed of for years, and with everything going on (you know... the pandemic), we’re so ready to jump in and manifest these goals of ours. Life is short.
We want to document the unfolding of this process, to share progress with our family + friends, show the reality behind what goes into going tiny and, hopefully, inspire others to go for it!
We look forward to meeting new people, collaborating with friends and family on the build, sharing our progress, and, one day, waking up in our Little Drifter.
Follow us on Facebook, Instagram + Tumblr, as we continue down this winding, beautiful path before us.
Dreaming big,
The Kaplan Critters
