I always want to like non fantasy, contemporary enemies to lovers romance but they always make the characters /too/ unlikeable and I end up actively root against them.

I just read Fourth Wing and Iron Flame in two days I'm obsessed. I have predictions for how the rest of the series goes that I want to document. I am aware the third book is out but I haven't read it yet. I'm scared 🫣

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR IRON FLAME PAST THIS POINT

Okay here are the 2 routes I think the next three books will take

PREDICTION #1 : NO MORE MAGIC FOR XADEN

Venin are created by touching the source of magic directly causing corruption and the the elixir they use/created to control venin Jack worked by blocking all magic making it impossible for the riders to talk to their dragons or use their signets THEREFORE if they were able to permanently and entirely cut Xaden off from magic it may cut him off from the "source" of the venin corruption. And since he's not dying, it may not kill Sgaeyl

This would make the arc of the books

Book 3: Trying to cure xaden and cutting him off from magic

Book 4: Xaden learning to cope with the fact that he's no longer the strongest super OP person in the world and can't speak to his dragon, xaden and violet dealing with a relationship where she is stronger than him and he can't protect her, overcoming the no magic obstacle through acceptance or regaining magic without corruption

Book 5: final battle using what we learned from trying to reconnect xaden to magic

PREDICTION #2: XADEN GOES DARK SIDE 😢

I unfortunately think this is more likely and is really going to upset me

Book 3: they spend the whole book trying to cure Xaden and him struggling not to give in but inevitably he does give in, grabbing more source magic to protect Violet leading to full corruption and joining the bad guys

Book 4: Violet is determined to save Xaden Lot of time will be spent arguing if he's worth saving/possible to save. Likely she has a crisis of faith but pushes through. She also fights evil Xaden but she can't bring herself to kill him. Ends with freeing him from corruption either by 1) above method of cutting him off from magic, 2) using her lightning to eradicate the corruption (because obviously her lightning is in some way the key to fighting the venin) or 3) killing Xaden (boo)

Book 5: dealing with consequences of Xaden having been venin/cut off from magic/ dead and finishing the fight

Is it possible I'm wrong? Absolutely but I am SCARED

It *was* special The love we had for it was real. But it's over now. It's been over for years. Let it die. Dragging it out with more adaptations and defensiveness is more disrespectful to what it used to mean than simply letting go. Go discover something new. Support people who aren't being harmful
