Sir Francis Job Short RA PPRE (British, 1857-1945) Orpheus and Eurydice, 1889 Orpheus, driven by doubt or anxiety, turns back to see Eurydice before they reach the world of the living, causing her to vanish back into the Underworld. Mycenaean Greeks and Minoans generally depicted women with pale or white skin and men with tanned skin. Male warriors like Odysseus were usually described as having sun-browned or bronzed skin.
