busy day for drew today because i was sick and didn’t feel like doing much else! he solved three cases (just...32 more to go, ugh, thank god for my hell lifespan) that were actually not that fun (before i shut the game down he got the tattooed thief one which does have a little more to it than the last three)

then frances aged up to a child! i gave her a makeover and swapped out the long hair for the cute pixie cut because it’s extremely good. also i moved deborah in the same day because i was specifically waiting for frances to become a child so deb’s “breathing the same air as a child” moodlet wasn’t constantly stacking with the “crying baby” moodlet

they had a busy friday, but then saturday rolled around and when i realized it was saturday i literally bolted back to my desk (from the sink where i’d been rinsing excess Horrible Flesh Grease eczema ointment off) because i finally had a chance to send them all to the future. i tried to engineer a nice family pancake breakfast before the big event but drew burned the pancakes and deb refused to sit at the table with drew and frances.

also two of my burning questions about itf have been answered so far: first, how intensive is that portal animation? second, what does emit actually look like? i hadn’t been able to glean either one from the pictures available on carl’s sims 3 guide.

tomorrow we actually go to oasis landing. maybe. if real life allows.

I have no sense of aesthetics so my builds look like shit and my computer is super low-end (it has an integrated graphics card for fuck's sake) so cc shopping generally ends in headaches. I just wanna play out stories with my little pixel friends.

i can't wait until I start getting cases more interesting than "talk to client-hack computer-report back-done", because i looked them up and some of them remind me that even though ts3 is very much the archetypal awkward middle child it still has some pretty great writing.

i’m so disappointed that frances didn’t get an imaginary friend doll in the mail because i would have loved for her to have one but at the same time drew’s trailer is very, very small and if he marries deborah, which he probably will once frances ages up to a child, it’ll be tight enough quarters with just the three of them (plus olive, but olive doesn’t take up much room)

today’s events in drew’s life: got some new threads because i realized how much i hated the outfit i initially plonked him down with, had a shitty babysitter that literally did nothing but stand on the porch burping and farting repeatedly the entire time drew was off working on his case, got a late night visit from frances’s mom (i literally woke drew up to tell her to fuck off), frances aged up to a toddler, drew kissed deborah in the rain at a party featuring a real who’s not of sims 3 versions of sims 2 premades (the oldies and the pleasants! ooh, we have been BLESSED! don lothario and nina caliente were there though so i guess it evens out) frances’s mom paid another late night visit (i had olive chase her off because i would very much imagine that drew wants NOTHING to do with legacy island’s abductor household), and drew taught frances to walk!

i may have gotten way too screenshot-happy when i started playing drew but that’s because these are the only photos i have of my old favorite family, and both of them either obfuscate or don’t have a member so i had to post both of them. not all of the kids are biological, but most of them are.

in order of family-joinage

Rian Fitch (only dude with blond hair): this wasn’t even kind of a legacy because i motive cheated like a fucking monster and played with an obscenely long lifespan but he was the founder nonetheless. i believe his traits were slob, neurotic, brave, flirty, and neurotic. actually not a bad loadout because he could work as hard as i wanted him to, come home, scream into the void, and then we could get on with the day without every action being greyed out because “Rian is too stressed to do that”. his ltw was to become an international super spy and he fucking made it. family man despite not having the traits for it, couldn’t keep his hands off his wife.

Colleen Fitch (woman Rian has his arm around): she had the flirty trait so i’m like 80% certain she was part of a randomized warm-body household i lovingly called “the legion of fuck-bots” because all eight of them had the flirty trait. save for an old fling she had hanging around her relationship panel like a bad smell until she could corner him at a party and tell him to fuck off, she actually stayed faithful. also had the schmoozer, genius, and snob traits but i couldn’t tell you what her fifth one was. loved her kids so much she gave all of them her chubby cheeks and basically ruined any shot they had at growing out of their baby faces. wanted to be a creature-robot crossbreeder, didn’t make it that far because she spent like three sim-weeks on family leave and took forever to get caught up.

Matthew Fitch (red hoodie and glasses): you know that band geek in high school who constantly talked about buffy the vampire slayer even though that show ended when he was five? of course you don’t, because that’s an archetype i made up to describe matthew, but boy did it describe him. grumpy (not that he ever showed it), virtuoso, night owl, supernatural fan. had the master of the arts ltw and was the guitarist of his and his siblings’ shitty blues rock garage band The Basic Fitches. also had a cute boyfriend. i had Colleen mix up some bottled vampire’s bite as a gift for his YA birthday, but my game didn’t make it that far.

Andrew Fitch (peacoat in first picture, wetsuit in second): boy howdy was this boy a piece of work. he didn’t really give me anything solid to build a personality headcanon off of. he was going to be the family’s athlete but then he rolled the couch potato trait and that was off the table. i don’t remember his other traits but i decided he was going to be the quirky inventor because he didn’t roll up any talent traits and i really really wanted an inventor. he had a part-time janitorial job at his school (nraas careers mod) and his work uniform included a goofy hat. he rolled SO many wants to play pranks--in-story, it was to impress a tough girl he liked. he wasn’t in The Basic Fitches but he played the laser rhythm-a-con. he never rolled a ltw.

Emily Fitch (red sweatervest): she and andrew were twins. a teacher’s pet and a nerd. she had the genius trait, i know that much. she spent most of her time being an excellent student, working part time at the hospital (nraas careers again), and getting abducted by aliens. i’m dead fucking serious, whenever aliens would visit the house, it would ALWAYS be her. if the game saved photos taken with the in-game camera as screenshots, i would have so many photos of her cute stink face. she had a crush on a guy at school but her attempts to woo him were foiled at every turn. she even got a rabbithole message at prom that stated “Emily asked her crush to dance, but got rejected in front of everyone!” so even the fucking game was rubbing it in. she had the chess grandmaster ltw and played the keyboard in The Basic Fitches.

Lily Fitch (purple dress): Lily and her counterpart basically joined the family because i have the supernatural fan trait in real life. she had the grumpy and heavy sleeper traits and three others i can’t remember. she and her counterpart were emily and andrew’s respective imaginary friends, and the second they came in the mail you can bet i had rian power-mixing potions on the chemistry table. in-story, she had a weird relationship with her status as an imaginary friend; even without my input other sims just naturally gravitated to her, and sometimes she just wanted to turn back into a doll that only emily could see. she had the super popular ltw and played drums in The Basic Fitches.

Larry Fitch (flat cap in the first pic, not in the second one): Lily’s counterpart. he had the artistic, photographer’s eye, and disciplined traits, i know that much. in-story, he embraced humanity much more readily and became the voice of reason (relatively speaking). he actually had a significant other, so that automatically put him ahead of the rest of the Fitch children (other than Matthew), socially speaking. i embraced the photographer’s eye trait, so he became something of a shutterbug. his favorite subject was emily’s stink face. he had the visionary ltw and played the bass in The Basic Fitches.

not shown in this picture because she does not, strictly speaking, exist anymore due to awesomemod’s shitty autosave system is Amber Fitch. she was born a time anomaly ghost (nandonalt’s supernatural baby on full moon mod) and made it to toddler with the absent-minded and athletic traits. i like to imagine her big brother Matt could not believe his eyes when Rian and Colleen brought her home.

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Like, a complete computer replacement (RIP my copy of TS2 Ultimate Collection because like hell am I talking to EA’s customer support to try and get a new one) and a couple years’ worth of time. I bought the Sims 3 a couple Steam sales ago (I used to have a physical copy when I was in high school but who knows where that is now), and then bought all of the expansion packs en masse during the Steam winter sale. Then I downloaded too much shit and my game started crashing every time I tried to load up a town and I had to factory-reset my game.

So now, here I am, with only the bare necessities mod-wise, trying to fill the hole in my heart previously held by the Fitch family (and also make sure it wasn’t my usual nraas loadout that was causing the problems) with a new bachelor thrust into a world that doesn’t make sense trying to make it in life. His name is Drew Matos. He has three favorite girls: his cat Olive, his girlfriend Deborah, and his daughter-via-alien-abduction (I just wanted him to skill up logic!) Frances. It’s probably for the best that he will never have any children with Deborah (she hates them!) because there is no fucking way I can fit a family of more than three (three would probably be pushing it) in his swamp trailer and I like having hilariously low bills too much to move him anywhere else until he’s got enough points to afford the No Bills LTR.

I’m probably going to have him travel to the future as soon as Frances can survive on her own for a little bit, both because I want to see what Oasis Landing looks like (one of the reasons I had to reset my game was because it would loadcrash every time I tried to travel to a sub-world and damn it I want to actually use those EPs I spent money on!) and because I have a very pressing question regarding it that I want to find the answer to myself.

I hate those fucking eyebrows. I’m going to edit him when I get home from work tomorrow so he doesn’t look like he has a permanent Dreamworks face.

He’s not hot or interesting enough for anyone to want in their game, but he’s CC-free if that matters.

and heading up the beginning is: a shitty home base in the shadow of a gigantic fucking nuclear power plant and two ruined skyscrapers that in the context of the flavor-text story probably belonged to a few of jacqueline's now-dead relatives!

and the welcome wagon has arrived! i didnt get that anti townie regen mod (because fuuuuck maty it's basically the sim community's own somethingawful) so it's all shitty default eaxis-named (as opposed to the lovely strangetown-style naming template i downloaded) townies that in the context of the flavor-text story are probably cannibals or slavers (im playing fallout-style so zombies are more closely equivalent to non-feral ghouls) and therefore arent allowed in the house no matter how close they get to jacqueline

seriously nobody with a neckseam that pronounced is trustworthy. the woman in the back is clearly wearing the face of her latest meal as a mask.

and now im wondering why the one other playable i have in this town didnt show up in the welcome wagon i thought the game always tried to send as many playables as it could

and now the great community lot adventure begins bc i have phae's rules mods so im not gettign the paper and this is the only way jacqueline can get a job

jacqueline majored in philosophy so she's going into culinary bc this "one prepared meal a day and also you can only cook on that shitty grill" restriction is gonna piss me off real fast

ah, there's my other playable now. her name is roxane sandor, and judging by the weird glitchy shit that happens when she leaves her little townie-creation lot she's an eldritch abomination who either caused the disaster, was created by the disaster, or is the personified form of the disaster.

and i did a sweep of the lot to find possible founding spouses + heir spouses

i was disappointed

on the plus side most of them have my strangetownie names so if i for whatever reason cant use the townie maker at roxane's pad i have some last resorts when all i have left are the eaxis cannibals/slavers/cannibal slavers

she's at the fallin oasis so of course she's taking a culinary job

her philosophy degree means she got to start at executive chef (which is level 8!!!) and i lost my shit bc is that allowed??? (i told you i hate playing uni so ive never really gotten anyone with a degree employed)

it was allowed and i need to play more sims

i fuckin told you roxane was glitchy as fuck outside of her home (fun fact: this is not the first time roxane has glitched her way across jacqueline's path; the two briefly met [and fought] after jacqueline was caught telescope-gazing at roxane's house. somehow. even though the story says it's across the country.)

jacqueline returns home. the cannibals/slavers/cannibal slavers are still there and now there are more. jacqueline roundly tells the lot of them to fuck off and bc this is ts2 and not an actual apocalypse-themed game, they oblige.

a cat also showed up. jacqueline did not roundly tell it to fuck off (and in fact played with it for a bit) and it repaid her kindness by eradicating her couch. that particular cat will not be allowed back on this property.

so now jacqueline has nowhere to sleep, she is too fucking broke to afford a replacement couch, and she does not work for another three days. so begins the day off gauntlet.

i'll tell you right now, those three sim days looked a lot like this.

normally this would be grounds for worrying (and when i took this picture, it was due to her frighteningly low hunger bar) but i eventually learned to anticipate it bc it was the only way jacqueline got any sleep

eaxis really should have added a "sleep on floor" pie menu option but i have a feeling that pinstar and his people (and, by extension, phaenoh) would have outlawed that faster than you can say "fuck this 'three days off in a row' shit"

i also forgot how grills work so the day off gauntlet looked like this when it didnt look like either of the above two pictures

jacqueline's three days off were worse experiences than anyone's have any right to be

also the winter/winter/winter/winter season cycle is starting to show itself quite nicely

this picture is pointless i just feel like "jacqueline reacting to weather" is a good running motif for the founding chapters to have

her fun gauge stayed pretty decent levels though; mostly bc there was nothing in the rules that said she couldnt do this

like ok. active sims or sims with fucking tanked fun bars jump rope autonomously. and there is no fucking canceling it once it starts. the animation goes, you get the no-effort body point, and before you know it you have somehow managed to accidentally max out body. it's BULLSHIT.

it got to the point where i was just waiting for things to break or get dirty so i had a way to distract jacqueline from her increasingly low needs bars

ah yes. my favorite townie. she's beautiful, she has one of my downloaded template names, and she spawned with red eyes so clearly i must have her genetics in my bloodline. not until the first male heir though bc having the tombstone of l&d on my lot would be way too big of a temptation

idk if snacks count as prepared meals but i tend to err on the side of "it would be a gigantic pain in the ass to play this challenge if this wasn't allowed so it's probably not allowed" so guess who's not getting any more food today!! (i also moved the grill outside and extended the roof over it [the shitty bunker is under 8x8 squares so i can get away with that] to comply with the music restriction bc i was getting sick of the constant fires)

did i say i didnt mind it when shit broke bc it gave jacqueline something to do? i take that back. i very much minded when shit broke bc it took forever to fix bc she'd stop every ten seconds to complain about her various need failures.

and then to add insult to injury, this...ehh i dont see a neck seam so let's just say this one's a slaver, came by and kicked the fucking trash over for no reason

but you know what? much like all good things, all shitty things must come to an end too. and not a moment too fucking soon; the "jacqueline has the day off today!" message was starting to sound like mockery.

christ, as much as i hate uni at least my sims could sleep in a bed, eat more than once a day, and take a fucking shower
