Neville Goddardās ideaāāpray as if your wish is already fulfilledāāis rooted in the principle that your imagination and feelings shape your reality. This concept can seem abstract at first, but itās actually about a specific mental and emotional practice. Hereās how it works and how it can be made āpossibleā in real terms:
š” What Neville Means:
When he says āassume the feeling of the wish fulfilled,ā he means:
⢠Donāt pray for something from a place of lack.
⢠Instead, imagine that you already have what you want, and feel the emotions associated with itāpeace, joy, relief, gratitude.
š§ How Is This Possible? (Practically Speaking)
1. Imagination as a Creative Act
Neville teaches that imagination is not fantasyāitās creation.
⢠You imagine a scene that would naturally occur after your desire is fulfilled.
⢠For example, instead of saying āPlease let me get this job,ā you imagine yourself already working there, or calling a friend saying, āI got the job!ā
ā
Possible Because: Your subconscious mind doesnāt distinguish between real and vividly imagined experiences. It responds to what you feel to be true.
2. Emotional Reconditioning
⢠Feeling the state of the wish fulfilled trains your nervous system and mindset to align with that reality.
⢠This can change your attitude, confidence, and choicesāinvisible drivers of results.
ā
Possible Because: Emotions influence your behavior, and behavior influences outcomes. Feeling āsuccessfulā can cause you to act in a more decisive or magnetic way.
3. Breaking the Cycle of Doubt
⢠Typical prayers focus on whatās missing. This reinforces the belief: I donāt have it.
⢠Nevilleās method breaks that by installing the belief: It is done.
ā
Possible Because: Your dominant belief system shapes what you notice, attract, and move toward in life.
š Simple Example: Wanting a Relationship
⢠Traditional Prayer: āPlease let me meet someone.ā
⢠Nevilleās Way: Imagine lying in bed, feeling your partnerās presence beside you, and feeling loved and grateful.
The inner state shifts from ālonelyā to ālovedāāand that shift, over time, affects how you carry yourself, what you tolerate, and what you attract.
⨠Why This Feels Like Magic (But Isnāt)
Itās not magic in a supernatural senseāitās a deliberate psychological process:
1. You rehearse a desired outcome emotionally.
2. Your subconscious accepts it as truth.
3. Your reality begins to reflect the new belief system youāre living from.
āø»
š How to Try It (In 3 Steps)
1. Pick a desire (health, love, job, etc.).
2. Create a short mental scene that implies itās already fulfilled.
⢠Make it vivid, short, repeatable.
3. Feel the emotion you would feel if it were already true.
⢠Do this right before sleep or in quiet meditation.
When Neville talks about prayer, heās not referring to begging, pleading, or even asking in the traditional religious sense. His view of prayer is radically different:
š Nevilleās Definition of Prayer:
āPrayer is the art of assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled.ā
Thatās it. In Nevilleās view, prayer isnāt wordsāitās a state of consciousness.
š So, What Is Prayer, According to Neville?
ā
Not This:
⢠āPlease give me money.ā
⢠āGod, help me find love.ā
⢠āI hope I get the job.ā
ā These focus on lackāon what you donāt have. They often reinforce the belief that you are separated from what you desire.
š But This:
⢠You enter into the feeling of already having what you want.
⢠You mentally live in the end.
⢠You pray by being it, not asking for it.
ā
āI am abundant.ā
ā
āI feel loved.ā
ā
āI live in peace now.ā
This is prayer as an inner alignment, not verbal petition.
š§āāļø So How Do You Actually Pray?
Hereās Nevilleās method, step-by-step:
1. Go into a relaxed state (ideally just before sleep)
He calls this the āState Akin to Sleepā (SATS). Itās a drowsy, meditative state when your conscious mind quiets and your subconscious becomes more receptive.
2. Imagine a scene that implies your wish is fulfilled
Make it short and simpleāa moment you would experience after your desire comes true.
Example: Someone shaking your hand saying, āCongratulations!ā
Or hearing, āIām so happy youāre finally healed.ā
3. Feel the emotion of that scene
This is the prayer. The feeling is the language of the subconscious. Youāre āspeakingā to it by feeling the result.
4. Repeat until it feels natural
Not forcedājust real. Then fall asleep in that feeling.
š§ Key Insight:
You are not praying to somethingāyou are becoming the state of what you want.
That is your communion with God (which Neville defines as your own wonderful human imagination).
š Final Thought: Prayer Without Words
This kind of prayer is silent. Itās not spokenāitās felt.
In Nevilleās words:
āYour Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.ā
He interprets this as: your inner state (what you feel in secret) will show up in your outer life (rewarded openly).

Feeling is the one and only medium through which ideas are conveyed to be subconscious. Therefore, the man who does not control his feeling may easily impress the subsconcious with undesirable states. By control of feeling is not meant restraint or suppressiono of your feeling, but rather the disciplining of self to imagine and entertain only such feeling as contributes to your happiness.
