Yesterday was highly neat.
Mom bought me a black trench coat. As a birthday present, she said.
I continued reading Ted Chiang's Story of Your Life. Reaching the certain point where they talked about Fermat's Principle of Least Time.
I woke up early today, not because of work alone, but also because I wanted to wear the trench coat again. Like some maniac.
—though, wasn't that highly neat?
#write me personal#so much to read and so much I want to share#it just scares me sometimes because I can't tell what's right and what's wrong anymore#saw my psychiatrist yesterday and she said she gotta increase the dose for one of my pills...#sometimes (if not oftentimes...) I'm just very lost and end up hurting not only myself but also people who care about me#I just hope you aren't as lonely as I might have been

In case anyone is interested, here are the pdfs for the works singnshong mention as having a great influence on orv during their most recent qna, including the article han sooyoung gets her skill name from! there's the books How to Talk About Books You Haven't Read and A Lover's Discourse, as well as the article Anticipatory Plagiarism. reading them really explains a lot about the themes and worldbuilding of orv, and they're (especially pierre bayard's works) pretty easy to get through!

fave yjh moments from yoo mia side story:
he can't drive. we know this as he is driven to work by his manager(s) and takes a taxi home.
he reads a lot of parenting books. also visits parenting forums and worries about raising yoo mia correctly
his Thing about food. it's one third eating disorder, one third paranoia and one third genuinely seeing the world through a lens of food metaphors.
shin yoosung looks him in the eye once and he immediately thinks thats the nicest anyone's ever been to him.
compulsively reads hate comments about himself. says it doesnt bother him when it very clearly does.
the obvious brain damage he isnt acknowledging. constantly tormented by visions (seizures + hallucinations). has both long-term and short-term memory loss issues. experiences a whole ass psychotic break. hes like that dog in a burning house comic saying this is fine. yoo joonghyuk go to a neurologist im begging you!!!

who else is up making deities out of loved ones. who else is up becoming priests instead of companions. who is up rn placing someone on a pedestal and retreating to the safe distance below where their gaze can't quite reach you. anyone else turning moments of human kindness into blessings from a god because it's far easier to stomach a miracle, something rare you should treat with reverence, than something you could ever come to expect. the heat of a touch from a god, not the warmth of another hand in your own. who else is praying at the dais of their deity and refusing to let them leave it. who else is up insisting on looking away from the face of god because your mind couldn't possibly bare being witness to something so holy. who else is ignoring their god, begging them to look. who else is scared of what they might find if they did.

There is a fire in my heart that no one can see‼️
This is the Third time I’ve lived through the brutality of hunger its harshness, its silence.
I walk through the streets of the city and find nothing to feed my children.
🩸The first time was last year, when I documented my situation holding onto a piece of bread after over a month of deprivation.
🩸The second time was 6 months ago when I brought some flour for my family and I was very tired because it was a very long walk.
🩸Now, I’m reliving that same pain.
The helplessness before my children, the heartbreak, it feels like I’m failing as a father. This is the very definition of powerlessness. I am of no use to them.💔💔
*Do you feel the weight of this hunger in my heart?
*Can you hear the cries of my children’s empty stomachs?
*Is anyone out there listening?
*Can anyone help us or Or convey the voice of this hunger to those who can help us?
Please donate, we are in dire need of your humanity. I hope you will not leave us to die in this harsh hunger. We want to feel that there is someone we can rely on to lighten this burden a little.
My campaign is verified on Gazavetters under # (88).

the final chapters of orv to me are like this. youre feeling tired and insecure and your friend invited you to a party later tonight but you think they'll probably have more fun without you. so you fake sick and don't go. and you do that often enough with enough friends that you look back at your life and realize you never took a single person up on a single offer. and then you die and god hands you a big book and you open it and its full of every single time someone wished you were there. every single person who wanted to be with you longer, every old friend and passing acquaintance who wished they still knew you. every single person who you could have built a life with and didn't, and their life was colder as a result. and god says here is proof that you were loved and you say what do i do with this now. its too late. i missed it all. and god puts her hand on your shoulder and says you're not too late at all. the invite is still open. we're still here.

I woke up to put my headphones on and post this perzine.
Please see content warnings on the site.
Richard Siken's "Tablecloth" ends with sentences I interpret far too personally:
Astronaut, tell me about your home planet. Astronaut, text me when you land.
I could only wish that a text from my Astronaut still awaits me.
P.S. I might have too many of these printed. If you're my mutuals and would like a copy, please feel free to send me a DM!

the author's barely disguised attempts to get you to eat a healthy meal. the author's barely disguised desire for you to get enough sleep. the author's barely disguised encouragement for you to take better care of yourself. the author's barely disguised hope for you to feel better tomorrow than you do today. the author's barely disguised longing for you to make it through tonight, and the next night, and the night after that. the author's barely disguised love for you, dripping off of every page
