After Effects - Bouncy Ball
This project was one of my favorites because I really enjoyed using the software. It was so much easier to manage volume control and, because of it, I was able to be more creative with what I wanted to do in the video; I had less boundaries than I did in Harmony, personally!

Final -
This project was my hardest one yet. Focusing on dialogue/mouth movement, as well as the drawing style I liked, and overall frame by frame animation was a lot. Though I thought it would be easier, the characters staying still for most of the clip was way harder. I had to show the minimal movement while not overexaggerating the drawings to prevent it looking like a larger movement; I ended up just trying to focus on the stillness of their bodies while letting the 2 characters’ hair have more of the ‘rotoscope’ movement and jumpiness for style. I was inspired by the style of ‘Archer’ and liked including the detail of the characters, but chose to keep it black and white for style and shading, as well.

Motion Media Project - Nov 13th
I really enjoyed using After Effects; it’s probably my favorite medium we’ve worked in all semester. I learned a lot and I was easily able to look up tutorials on how to do other things I wanted to learn.

Walk Cycle -
I learned a lot about the basics of animation from this assignment. I had the most trouble with volume and keeping things the same length/width because I couldn’t always copy and paste things into frame without having to change most of it, and I’m not a good artists so drawing the same sizes back felt impossible. I wish we had more time so I could make the lines and proportions more solid.

Lia, Noemi and I got together for this project because we worked so well together on the bouncing ball project. Thanks to Lia’s drawing help, we were able to draw out the characters and in-betweens as mini-puppet-like dolls with their body parts drawn separately so we could move them as we animated. This made it a lot easier to keep consistency with our subjects and I liked it better than using a sticky clay ball for the bouncing ball video. Lia had the idea of involving balloons, like the movie “Up” and Noemi had the idea of using aliens so I suggested combining the two ideas, and our video was born! We all worked together to help draw, cut out, and shoot the video. My favorite part is including the close up scene of our main character and his expressions when he gets handed multiple balloons because it felt more like a movie with multiple camera angles to emphasize different aspects.
The animation principle we focused on was mostly appeal, but we also tried to keep staging in mind with our close up scene. We tried to be intentional with our appeal of our characters by making our main character look very average (not like flying up to space on balloons would be his daily activity) and by making our balloon man’s head and skinny body look similar to his balloons.

Text

My name is Olivia Miranda, but I like when people call me liv- “Olivia” just makes me feel like I’m in trouble. I’m a film and media arts major and writing and communications double minor at the University of Tampa and have loved every second of learning more and more of the things I hope to do for the rest of my life as a career. I’ve been creative my whole life and love pushing the boundaries of what I think I can’t do. I love to write and come up with ideas; I’m more of a pre-production kind of person, but I love learning new parts of production, post-production, and new things in between. Attached is a photo of a quote that inspires my creativity; my faith is a large part of who I am and reminding myself of where my creativity comes from helps me love and appreciate my artsy, complicated mind even more. I can’t wait to start this semester and see what I can do!
