Evaluation
Brief
What did this brief require you to do?
For this brief i had to create a facebook page for my photography and create a portfolio to go along side it.
What was the purpose of this assignment?
I believe the purpose of this assignment was to get us used to promoting ourselves and to get a finished portfolio.
Outline the process you went through for this brief, step by step. What did you produce and why?
For this brief i produced an eye catching  logo that i designed and created on adobe illustrator i did this so clients could recognise me at a glance, i also created a behance page to upload my future work and my portfolio because it is used by big and small companies and other creatives. I created my business facebook page and promoted myself because this helps me begin to gain client work so i can build my portfolio.
Portfolio
https://www.behance.net/gallery/60131543/My-Portfolio-as-of-the-end-of-2017
Maternity shoot - i included these photos because they show that i have an understanding in how to set up studio equipment and use the lights to my advantage.
Vase of flowers - I included this photo because it show that i have an interest in the more artistic side of photography.
Motorbike photos - I added these because i wanted to show that i can create photos that tell a story in a documentary maner.
Farm photos - I liked the depth of field and i think they are some of my best photos.
Lace market - I chose this as my last photo because it is one of my best and it is the photo i am most proud of because the exposure and the composition are great.
Promoting myself
Which platforms did you use to promote your work, and why?
I used behance and facebook to upload and promote my work. I chose behance because it is full of creatives and that could help me get some collaborative work done, also because the image quality is really good and it can house my portfolio. I chose facebook because it is widely used by millions of people and i felt like i would be able to use it on the regular because i know it well.
Tumblr media
What was the inspiration behind it? What does it say about you?
The inspiration behind this came from the flash symbol on a camera, i noticed that it looks like an L so i added D so it would make my first and last initial. I think this logo says im calm, connotation of blue, and that i have an outside of the box view on things, using the flash to create an L.
How did you ensure that your social media was optimized for your promotional campaign?
I posted at prime times and tried to get my following to share my posts so my name would get out there.
Evaluating the campaign
Include visual data from Facebook Insights. How many people like your page?
Tumblr media
How many saw, liked and shared your post(s)?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What’s the demographic breakdown of your audience?
Tumblr media
What have you learned from these insights?
I have learned when my audience are more likely to like and share my posts and which posts are the most popular.
Include examples of peer feedback. What comments have you got on Facebook, Behance or elsewhere? What have you learned from them?
I dont really get comments on my posts, i mainly get likes and shares. This means i need more of a call to action in my posts by getting my audience to comment something that is related to the images.
Overall, how successful has your promotional campaign been, and why? What could you do differently in the future?
I think i have been pretty successful because i have gained a small following of people that are interacting with my posts. In the future i could make a posting schedule to keep on top of my posts and make my following grow

Logo development and why i changed it
i changed my logo because i don't think i would be taken seriously if i used LSD because of the drug reference. i wanted to keep the circular format but i wanted to make it more blatantly about photography, to do this i used the flash symbol to create the L and then made the D using the text tool in adobe illustrator. i chose to make it a light sky blue colour because i think it looked best with how the shapes worked, i originally wanted to use a mustard yellow colour but it made me think of the Rockstar Games logo so i changed it.

Social Media Optimization - 7th December
What is social media optimization?
Social media optimization is is getting the most out of your social media by following the 10 rules. I.E. Be active and responsive.
What steps could you take to ensure that your social media presence is optimized?
Link all your business accounts. This saves a lot of time
Use hashtags to stay on trend. Keeps you relevant.
Schedule posts so they go up at prime times. More likely to be seen and liked if its to the top of their feed.
Drip feed your content. Dont post all at once cause you'll run out of content quickly.
Be active and responsive. Use the social media account to like and comment on other peoples stuff, respond to questions.
Include a call to action. Get the audience to do something for you.
Share the love. Follow and like other photographers work and they could do the same.
Brand consistently. Make sure all of your posts are cohesive and follow a similar structure, this will make it easier for people to recognise the post as yours.
Know your audience
Target your audience.
What is viral marketing?
Viral marketing is a marketing tactic where you use your audience to share your posts to get them to a wider audience.
Can you do anything to help your content become viral?
You could include a call to action to get the shares up.
What is a call to action? Include examples.
A call to action is getting your audience to interact with your post to get the numbers up. This could be commenting their own photos, including a poll, having a giveaway if it gets to a certain number of shares or even just asking them to share with their friends.
How could you use calls to action in your social media
I could use calls to action to get more likes on my account to do so I could ask my current followers to share my page with their friends or I could ask them to tag people they think would enjoy my images in the comment section.

Key principles of logo design - 7th December
1. K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid)
An overcomplicated design could look messy when small and it could be harder to remember if there are too many elements.
2. Recognisable.
Needs to be something someone can recognise at a glance.
3. Memorable
If people dont remember it then you wont grow.
4. Flexible
Has to be able to fit with many things, on top of photos, as a logo, etc.
5. Timeless
You dont want to have to keep changing your logo every time the elements go out of fashion.

Behance portfolio and profile
Profile:
Why have you chosen the profile picture?
I chose this picture because it is my logo and it makes all my business accounts coherent.
Why have you included the information in ‘about me’ – is it relevant?
i think the information i included is relevant because it shortly explains me, i also included that i like other artistic practices so that i dont limit myself to photography.
Why have you included your focuses?
i didnt do this because i couldnt figure out how to add them.
Why have you included your ‘on the web’ links?
i included them so that people can access my facebook page quickly and see what i have been up to super recently.
Images:
Why have you included the images?
I included these images because they are the ones that i think are best.
Why have you included the description? Are you providing enough information, too little?
i didnt include a description because i think the title explains everything.
How do the images differ from being in a book. Compare how you feel about the images in a book and online. Which is better? Why?
i would prefer the images to be in a book because i feel like i would have been able to present them exactly how i wanted without the restrictions of Behance.

Behance - 6th December
Profiles: 1. Profile picture: what are artists using as their profile pictures? Is this relevant to their photographic practice or brand identity? 2. About me: What information are artists sharing on their ‘about me’ section? Is it relevant to their photographic practice or brand identity? 3. Focus: how many different focuses are artists using? Why do you think they are including more than one focus? 4. On the web: what websites and social media are they linking you to? Why do you think they are inviting you to view those particular profiles / pages?
Kyle Lambert -
1. 4 illustrations with his name in the middle, this relates to his work because he is an illustrator.
2. no specific about me section but there is a few paragraphs that include his backstory and what hes about. LA based visual artist. commercially successful. works a lot in the entertainment industry. names of brands hes works with. yeah i think so because you can see he’s worked with the big companies on his page.
3. illustration, digital art, painting. to show he can use multiple mediums to create his work and achieve his final outcome.
4. Linkedin, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Youtube, Pinterest and Flickr. to showcase all aspects of his work such as creating the digital art.
Juliette Coulloudon -
1. A black and white selfie. i dont think it is relevant because her work is very colourful and the photography is mainly of products.
2. The about me section tells us she is a french digital art director based in paris. there is a contact email for freelance and other inquiries. yeah she has worked as an art director in most of her work.
3. Art direction, web design, UI/UX. to show people what she does and what she can do without them having to sift through her work.
4. Dribbble, Linkedin, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. i think shes included them because they all show different aspects of her work as she is doing it and when it's posted.
Morgan Robialle -
1. illistration of two people about to kiss. this isnt relevant to any of the work they do or their brand identity.
2. they share what they do, digital art director, and where they are based.  they also leave a contact email if you wish to work with them. it is relevant to their work, because you know exactly where they specialise.
3. Web design, Art direction, Graphic design. i think this is so more people are interested in working with her because she has a wide range of skills.
4. They only have a Linkedin account attached to their behance. i think theis is so she gets more more professional work as Linkedin is an online cv.
Gallery upload:
1. Title: How long is the title? Is it relevant to the images? Is it eye catching? 2. Images: on average, how many images are artists using for an upload? What’s the smallest and largest amount of images you have seen? 3. Description: what information has the artist included in the description of their work? How long is the description? Is it relevant? Why do you think they have provided the amount of information they have?
Kyle Lambert -
1. His titles are normally short and straight to the point. They are always relevant to the work in the project. I don’t think they are very eye catching.
2. 12 images on average, smallest 2, largest 19.
3. what the work was for, what company, commissioned or not, what program was used, where the art was used.
Morgan Robialle -
1. reasonable length titles, it is relevant to the work because it tells you exactly what it is, i don’t think they’re eye catching.
2. 13 images on average, smallest 1 image, largest 15 images.
3. No description on any of the posts i looked at.
Juliette Coulloudon -
1. Not super long but they aren’t short either, always relevant to the work in the post, not eye catching at all to me.
2. 4 images on average, smallest amount of images was 2 and the largest was 5.
3. Again i couldn’t find a description on any of the posts i looked at.

Humans Of New York - 30th November
What is the Brand Identity of Humans of New York?
Wants to build a culture of celebration, support and positivity.
What do you associate with it?
Photographs that celebrate diversity.
What is Brandon Stanton's Unique Selling Point?
He adds a personal touch to each photo by including a quote from the person in the photograph.
What makes his approach and the content he generates different?
His approach is very different because instead of stopping the subject and just talking their photo he spends a few minutes getting to know them and forming a bond with that person.
What is the narrative Facebook promotes for Humans of New York?
A rags to riches story and the idea that it could happen to you if you set up a Facebook page.
What do they want you to believe about the project?
Facebook wants you to believe that this project was grown in a short amount of time and that it was done organically with no paid advertisements. This helps them sell the narrative that it could happen to you.

Personal and Private Information - 29th November
What is the difference between private and public information?
Private information is the stuff you keep to yourself such as your home address, your phone number, any form of id and your banking information. Public information is the stuff you don’t mind people seeing such as your name and your business address.
Why is it important to keep your private life private?
It is important because you don’t want future employers or clients to see what you do in your personal life because there could be things about your personal life that they may not agree with and that could stop them from choosing you. Also because you don’t want strangers looking at what you do in your private life.
Why is it important to keep a public profile?
It is important to keep a public profile so people can find you if they need information. Also so clients can contact you for work.
What measures can you take to keep your private life private?
You can keep your private life private by not having then associated with your business accounts and keeping as much of your private information concealed as possible.
Using the uni/job notes
Why is it important to be selective with your portfolio images when applying for jobs / university?
It is important because you want to show your best work that showcases the skills you have. You might also want to show photos that go specifically with the style of photography you are going to be studying or the job you want to go into.

Logo Work - 28th November
What makes a good logo?
Bright colours, Simple design, If there’s text then a font that’s easy to read. Something that actually relates to the name or the product.
What would make a good logo for a photography business?
Simple elegant design with easy to read text. A symbol that relates to the kind of photography you use. Don't use a lens or an aperture as your symbol/logo because it is super over done. A sleek colour palette of at most 3 colours.
Find 5 examples and annotate
Tumblr media
I like how subtle the camera is in this logo because at first it just looks like the initials but looking more closely at i can begin to see a camera. I think this logo does a good job in advertising what the product is without throwing cameras and lenses into your face.
Tumblr media
This logo is ok but it looks alot like many other photography logos and without the name it could easily be mistaken for thousands of other photography businesses.
Tumblr media
This is what i think of when i think about generic photography logos. This is really creative because the initials are the camera lens. But it is still a little basic in my eyes.
Tumblr media
I really like this logo because it is simple but it gets the point across. I like the font but i do think the H in heartfelt should be a capital.
Tumblr media
This is my fave logo because it is clean and easy to read and they haven't used a generic logo. They've been more creative in their approach using a silhouette of someone taking a photo.
